I wish I could be there that week, but we're unavailable.

However, if I was participating I would like to have a "tour" of the local health food stores/co-ops early in the week as well as some of the vegan restaurants. Just a quick overview. Something else that would be cool that our family does is during big reunions we divide up into teams of 4 or so, and each person cooks a meal one night. That way everyone gets into the cooking bit, but only has to worry about feeding everyone one night, and the other nights everyone just shows up to eat.

Also, if there are a number of new vegans out there, almost a walk-through of a health food store (kinda like Vegan Fitness, Built Naturally at the beginning) might be educational and motivational for them, but only if there were a number of people who are new.

Just some ideas. hehe

Cool thanks.

Loveliberate mentioned a "tour of Portland - vegan hot spots" in our last planning committee meeting. I just didn't get it in there yet.

But it is a great idea and I think we'll do it.

We also got another well-known vegan chef to get on board to do a cooking demo.

PETA also wants to get involved and have us do a KFC demo during the vegan vacation and I think we'll do that.

A trip to Farm Sanctuary in Salem is also something to squeeze in.

So yeah, it should be pretty awesome. Loveliberate and I passed out dozens of flyers today and we'll get a few hundred out in the next couple of weeks.

I'm anticipating a couple hundred people participating throughout the week, but it's hard to say.

Keep the ideas coming, thanks Matt!

Thank you so much Robert, et.al, for all the time and hard work you've put into planning this! I'm so excited, I can't wait . The itinerary sounds fantastic, as well as the other things getting added (demo, sanctuary visit . . .). It is going to be a good time .

Thanks. I'll keep on updating it too. PETA wants to get involved, some well-known chefs want to do cooking demos, and we'll hopefully have a good turnout.

I know there is only one weight training session scheduled, but there is a lot of unscheduled time for hanging out, etc. and I plan on training then. Since it is much more than just a fitness event, I didn't want to schedule too much exercise But there will be plenty of opportunity for that, as I'm sure a core group of us will go everyday

The other thing that just occurred to me is that if people want to get together for "vegan" gym workouts during that week, does the gym have "daily" memberships? Maybe the gym could cut a deal for that week for the visiting vegan bodybuilders in exchange for promotion of some type on the VBB site or something so they can do an "instructional" time in the gym, basically to promote bodybuilding in general and generate goodwill.

Yeah, I'm going to workout a deal with the owner. They have 3 locations in Portland, so that will make it easy and fun for us.

As a guest of "me" there is a $5 fee each time you visit. Normally it is $10. There are also 3-day FREE passes, but if 25 people get them one day, and many are from out of state, they might think it's a little weird...but it might be fine too.

Maybe they'll do 3-day FREE and $5 a day after that. I still need to sort out the ins and outs and ins and outs and outs and ins of the gym situation, but it will be sorted soon.

Thanks for the tip, good ideas.

Thanks. It's tough, lots to coordinate with locations, people, advertising, marketing, assisting out of state travelers, getting the local community involved, getting things donated, sorting out transportation and housing, etc.

Good times and I'm getting some help from some forum members here locally with the planning, so it's cool.

I also want to thank Robert for all of his work on this. He has done the majority of the work so far by himself, all while having an amazingly busy schedule.

If anyone else wants to get involved in helping make Vegan Vacation the best it can be - please do so ASAP! To start, you can just do post letting us know that you are interested, what you are up for doing and what skills, time & other resources you can share. Everyone can do something -so please dont worry if you dont have experience, etc!

Somewhat of a headache...you're right!

But it looks like it will be fun, we have some top-notch people getting involved and in general, it should be a fun and peaceful time.

There are still a few TBA locations that should be updated in a few days (just confirming events, and locations).

All info will be updated soon.

Thanks for the support, interest, and involvement to everyone who has helped in anyway!

I look forward to seeing you all soon!

  • 2 weeks later...

Where is the "vegan battle royal" event where all us single males have to combat each other to find out who gets to ask out the vegan girls, since there are so few of them in existence, it would seem this event is bound to occur - might as well schedule it in...

It doesn't have to be a violent fight type of thing either, it could be a cook-off event, and the ladies can sample the cuisine and select their man based on that...afterall what vegan woman doesn't want a man that can cook yummy vegan food.

If its a cook of the games already over and nobody else should show up. It'll save you guys alot of stress if you don't have to compete with me

Shit. Screw the cook off then.... fists of vegan fury it is!

But then again judging by our avatars, my pot is superior to yours...

Maybe so but that pot is cast bronze and took many people to make it...I go solo and don't need people to do my heavy work.

I have enslaved slaughter house workers to make my brilliant cast bronze pot. In fact, it is a cauldron. As you can see I am pefforming the "5000 deadly palms method of golden boiling precious tofu hot pots" method.

It is a sheer spectacle to see me cooking using only my bare hands in a boiling cauldron, not to mention one that has been made in such an ethical fashion.

Be warned ye who is known as the maker of pots!
