pull ups with added weights

Recommended Posts

What is the best way to add weights to pull ups to go real heavy. I was thinking about getting a 100 pound weight vest but then i thought what about when i want more than 100 extra. I remember seeing Johny Jackson using some thing that was attached to neck (if i remember corectly) that he had like 2 or 3 plates attached to. only help would be great.

I've usually seen this done using a belt (don't know if it's a special belt, or just a MacGuyvered weight belt) with a chain attached, to which you hook weight plates.

A weighted vest would also work, especially if you have other uses for it (because they are pretty pricey just to do pull-ups).

Yeah it's usually called a dip belt. But they are usually made of leather. I bought mine long before I became vegan and it's leather. I've done BW + 105 pounds for 3 reps. Right now, I'm doing a 3 rep set every minute for 30 minutes with 45 to 55 pounds. One arm chinups are just too hard still. It may be years before I complete one. Of course hardly anyone ever does one so that's OK.

Man...I can't afford to throw money away on a dipping belt ...

I just got a spare piece of chain that was in the backyard and cut it down to size...i put a snap lock at one end and threaded it through the weights and snapped the other end to the other end of the chain...works a treat and saved me $60....
