Howard is pretty cool. He spoke at New Vrindaban back in 1994, the Hare Krishna community where I used to live. He was touring then with Jeff Juliano aka Jagannatha Das aka Ronald Mcdonald. Jeff was one of the original Ronald McDonald t.v. commercial clowns.

Too bad airfare is over $600 that weekend! You guys have fun!

Others besides Howard will be there

2006 Vegan Holiday Festival in Downtown Portland!

On November 18th, Portland will host the 1st Annual Vegan Holiday Festival.

The Festival will take place at Lincoln High School, 1600 SW Salmon Street,

from 11AM to 6PM in downtown Portland.

The Vegan Holiday Festival will feature world renowned speakers, cooking

demonstrations, and a wide variety of exhibitors of animal-friendly products and

services including crafts, gifts, and food. Admission is $5 at the door.

Speakers and presenters include “Mad Cowboy” Howard Lyman, a 4th generation

cattle farmer turned vegan activist; Author and Vegan Chef Beverly Lynn Bennett;

Author and Professional Triathlete Brendan Brazier; Culinary Expert Chef Al

Chase; Raw Food Chef Ani Phyo; Animal Rights Advocate and member of

In Defense of Animals Matt Rossell; and Award-winning Author Bo Rinaldi and the

Chefs from Blossoming Lotus Café here in Portland.

A wide range of information on nutrition and health, exercise, cooking and baking,

the environment, and proactive steps for a promising future will also be offered by

the non-profit groups and other exhibitors at the Festival. Everyone from the merely

curious to vegan is welcome to attend, and will find easy and simple steps to eat and

live in a more sustainable and compassionate manner.

This event is sponsored by Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness, Northwest Veg,

Blossoming Lotus, VegNews Magazine, Vega, Veganopolis, Food Fight Grocery,

Proper Eats, In Defense of Animals, Herbivore Magazine and Clothing Company,

and a host of other sponsors.

Robert Cheeke, President of Vegan Bodybuilding & Fitness decided to develop the

Vegan Holiday Festival because of a need to counter the unthinking cruelty that goes

on in food and clothing production for the Holiday Season. He wanted a Festival to

uplift, inspire, educate and motivate people to make healthier and more compassionate

food and lifestyle choices now, and throughout the rest of the year.

Portland was recently voted as the #1 Vegan-Friendly City in America by PETA. VegNews

Magazine chose Portland as the #2 Vegan-Friendly City in America. The vegan community

has been growing in Portland, with a number of new vegan restaurants and stores opening

in just the past year. Robert's goal behind the Vegan Holiday Festival is to strengthen our

vegan community and to support the vegan companies, businesses, individuals and groups

here in the Northwest.

Volunteer positions are available and volunteers will be exempt from the entry fee.
