JW
Yes I've been called a manchild many a time! What can I say...... I like having fun and I absolutely love hanging out and playing with kids.Quite often while attending a party, I'll spend more time with the kids than with the adults (unless of course there is another manchild in attendence)Maybe it's Peter Pan Syndrome, maybe I just don't want to grow up but life is good My only regret is not following my lifelong dream to be a Phys-Ed teacher. (there just weren't any jobs... so I guess there is a small amount of maturity in me. )
JW
Juvenile joke of the week:courtesy of my son patient: "Doctor, I get this sharp pain in my mouth when I drink hot chocolate" doctor: "Well, next time, remember to take the spoon out of the cup" (Well I thought it was funny )
JW
We have our staff "Holday Party" tonight. As usual, the menu is extemely non-vegan! Starts with caesar salad(I'll get tossed with oil & vinegar) Next is a creamy veg soup(I get tomato juice) Main course is choice of prime rib, chicken cordon bleu salmon or pasta with a parmesan, garlic, white wine sauce.(Whoo Hooo I can have the pasta with no parmesan) Dessert is joice of choc mocha layer cake or pumpkin mousse(I get nothing) I find it very frustrating that restaurants and events ignore vegans. There's nothing like going to a restaurant and having to order a side dish or a tossed salad because there are no menu options. And to cap it off, I get to watch people shovel animal carcass into their mouths! Happy holidays!!!

JW
Not from a food perspective, that's for certain! Hmmm, maybe I can start some veg*n conversation at our table. You never know, maybe someone will see the light
JW
One big reminder to me that I'm getting older is my experience playing indoor soccer this year.We were supposed to be in a 35+ league but since there weren't enough teams we were placed in the open league against all the 18-25 yr olds! Now I can keep up with them on a skill level, but 2 things really separate us1. they can run and run forever and they don't need 3 days to recover after playing.2. they have that exuberance which makes them play perhaps harder than they should at a recreational level. I just want to play for fun and make sure people don't get hurt from hard tackles. If I'm honest with myself, I was probably just like them when I was that age. I'm desperately trying to hold on to my manchild ways but every so often a reminder comes up that I HAVE matured in some ways!
JW
okay, Time for a rant.....Juvenile offenders......Winnipeg has approx 700,000 people and is relatively safe but we are experiencing and incredible amount of auto thefts. The offenders are primarily kids 12-16 yrs of age.The problem is that there is no accountability. The young offender is caught, brought into the station, and released to family. The offender then offends again. The cycle continues..... Our police officers are extremely frustrated that their efforts are futile.I have concerns that this situation will lead to vigilante behavior. Almost everbody I know has either had a vehicle stolen, had a garage break-in or knows someone who has. Not sure what the answer is, but it saddens me to see how little respect the human race has for it's environment, for animals and each other. JW
Some definitions of "manchild" I found:I've always been referred to as a manchild under #1 1. man child a grown man who is very immature, therefore considered a man child.Dude you need to grow up and stop being such a man child 2. man child A man that is so large and/or powerful that he makes other men around him look like children. Usually an athlete that dominates others on the field/court because of his size and strength.Did you see that hit? Ray Lewis is a man child!David Ortiz is a man child at the plate. 3. man child Someone who hits puberty really early and is like 11 butt looks 15"See that kid over there with the big muscles and armpit hair and a beard?""Yeah?""He's eleven!""what a man child!" 4. man child a child acting adult mlike or an adult acting child likeim a man child 5. man child the term used when a baby is born, and is NOT a child but in fact a fully grown teenager, common among births where the couple were relations or step brother/sisters "Axe man, dam hes Petes and his step sisters Man Child"
JW
JW is disgruntled and dismayed!!!!!! played indoor soccer last night and despite winning the game and scoring a goal and adding two assists, I'm disillusioned!!!!!! with a couple minutes left in the game, one of our players was tackled a little too enthusiastically and slammed into the boards. He was okay but lost his cool and shoved the other guy while firing out a few F-Bombs.Both players were ejected. I thought this was a Recreational League!!!!!!!!I like competing as much as the next person but what the heck??????Where's the self control?Where's the sportsmanship?Where's the fun? I've noticed this rough play and overly serious attitude all year with the 18-24 year old crowd. Maybe I'm just getting old, but is this normal behaviour and attitude? JW
Sad but true It has really taken the fun out of it for me.I hope that the league will take appropriate action. I'm definitely looking for a new league next year.
JW
Well, my kids are at it again with the fundraising! My son just raised $110 by organizing "hat day" at school for the grade 6 classes. For a donation to World Vision, the student gets to wear their hatall day in school. Both kids have been busy selling "little traveller pins" to support an HIV/AIDS Centre in South Africa. The pins are made by HIV positive men & women at the centre. 100% of the monies raised goes directly to the centre. So far they have raised $565. I wish I could have started as early as they have. Funny how kids seem to be so much more compassionate and receptive than adults. Many more of our kid's friends have shown a genuine interest in vegetarianism than our adult friends.Sometimes I wonder just why we all have to "grow up"??? JW
HmmmmTo shave or not to shave? That is the question. (my head that is....) All these thoughts go through my scantily covered head Will it look wierd or just horrible? How much maintenance is required?Am I going to be constantly cutting my head shaving? What if I hate it? How long will it take to grow back? How many "good-natured" insults will I endure? Ohwhat a nerve wracking decision

Odidnetne
You could always just become a Ninja and cover your face and not have to worry like Richard. I enjoy shaving though, except when I have a lot of acne and cuts all over my face.

JW
On Saturday I went to a warehouse to help load medical equipment which was going to hospitals in Uganda. It was hard work but OMG!!! It's so easy to make a monetary donation but to see what is involved behind the scenes is quite enlightening. All these people are VOLUNTEERS!!! It sickens me to think of how in our culture athletes, actors and entertainers are idolized when these true heroes go virtually unrecognized. Well, JW says "hat's off to all you volunteers"!!!!!! You are the true heroes in the world!!
