robert Posted September 19, 2005 Author Share Posted September 19, 2005 I can understand that many of you would like to go somewhere that doesn't have lots of "American" tourists, or other tourists. For years I worked in the hotel and cruise ship industries on land and at sea so I got used to tourist spots, but I too think it would be cool to go somewhere more secluded. But one of the aspects of this whole Vegan Fitness Vacation will be to "train" together, hopefully with weights, so I'm trying to find a tropical place that has a good gym and good vegan food too. I've been to 31 countries mate, including yours of Scotland I'm just trying to find a place that has all that we are looking for and is fairly cheap in price to maximize the potential for the most people to make it. I even made a friend there, but don't keep in touch Just someone I would visit each week when my ship stopped in. I'd have to look into the vegan options (I'm sure they have) and gym options. The reason I mentioned St. Thomas was because I spent the most time there and knew they had heath food stores, places to workout, amazing beaches, hills, and it was awesome when I was there. So was just most familiar with that place, but I'm open to any Island, or central American country, South American country, etc. The reason I'm not selecting a European country is because there is already a vegan fitness gathering over there, I'm making an alternative for those who can't/don't want to, travel to Europe, so I wanted to pick a US/Caribbean location closer and cheaper for "most" of the members here based on where most of us are from. My concerns are for sunshine, beaches, good company, vegan food, squat rack, bench and about 500 pounds of iron. I agree Big Michael, that is why I keep on trying to select places with gyms and vegan restaurants. I'll keep looking. Keep the ideas flowing. I know we're there for "vacation" but I figure we'd spend at least a few hours promoting veganism to others. So, say we were in a heavy American Tourist place. A bunch of fit vegans in a large group chatting with individuals, sharing some literature with them, etc. I don't mean for it to sound like a church mission to convert people, but I think we should do some sort of acitivism work while we're on "vacation" even if it is just for a short time. A swimsuit is good on some occassions, but the beach isn't one of them. Worst place in the world for a swimsuit, unless you like having sand collected around your arse!
