Monow
* I'm getting more and more excited with the Raw food lifestyle. I'm reading more on the topic than I could ever have imagined. Along with load of web searching too ! Two guys who came to the forefront and I have got material on are Peter Ragnar and David Wolfe. I just got David's book "The sunfood diet success system" this morning, so I'll be reading that soon Also I have recently downloaded Peter's FREE e-book "How anyone can build muscle on a raw food diet" (found here http://www.roaringlionpublishing.com/store/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=RLP&Category_Code=ebk) Which I have found a huge inspiration, especially with regards to removing the doubt of growing muscle on a raw vegan diet I plan to order more of their stuff when I get rid of my back log of books. But just wondered if everyone knew of these 2 guys ? Or am I asking a stupid question, like do people know John Robbins is. Sorry I'm new to all this. And my only real experience of posting message is on Video game boards, so I'm always a bit timid to ask questions, as my experience from video game boards is that any remotely stupid question gets flammed badly *
Kathryn
I've read a couple of books by Wolfe, but I've never heard of the other guy. (I haven't read huge amounts about raw, but I did some research on it this past summer). I do vaguely remember Wolfe as participating in a weird "reality" show on Sci-Fi TV (the name of which I can't remember), where a group of 'alternative' folks (Wolfe was the raw food nudist, there was also Wiccan, a tatooed guy who put hooks in his body and hung from cables, a vampire) decided whether contestants stayed or left the show based on how accepting they were and how willing to open up to new experiences. I didn't know who he was at the time (he went by "Avocado" on the show.)

Monow
* Hi Kathryn and caligurl. I thought these 2 guys would be more well know ! There is quite a bit on David Wolf on youtube check the link http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=David+Wolfe+&search=Search Also Peter Ragnar has some on youtube too...Only just did a search on him just then, so I will watch some of his stuff later. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=Peter+Ragnar&search=Search Yay Youtube on their raw coverage Caligurl I have only skimmed David's book so far, but will post when I get a few chapters in. Though I am sure if the book is anything like his youtube video passionate "rants" I'm going to enjoy it. Love people who have such convictions to believe and live the healthy lifestyle. Haven't read much this week. On my 6th day of being 100% raw and my brain is all over the place, I assume it's to do with the detox. Energy is also all up and down too. *
Monow
* Hay caligurl, just thought I'd drop a few words down about the sunfood diet book by David Wolfe. I'm still reading it, but so far have been very impressed. The first part of the book reminded me of a Anthony Robbins self help material (not a bad thing) and then the next part goes more like John Robbins (not a bad thing either). Kind of a Robbins one two going on there. That's it in a very small nut shell (very small). But it continuously surprises with its information. It goes far deeper than say Alissa Cohen's Living on live food book, though Alissa's book is still great, it's more entry level. I am finding that David's book is answering far more questions than other material I've read so far on the subject of going raw. I jumped to the detox chapter in his book for example, and it did shine a bit of light on what I am going through at the moment. In some material the detox is quickly passed over by saying after a few days or so you'll start to feel better. Well personally that hasn't happened to me. I'm all over the show. My energy is ok one moment, next I'm all fatigued beyond belief. But the chapter has made me realised what to expect realistically. Also how to speed it up or slow it down according to my needs. An interesting tit bit from the chapter was, 1 month of 100% raw equals the removal of 1 years of cooked food eating side effects. Now that statement alone made me realise that the journey isn't going to pass in a few days like some detox material has said. I don't know how far you are a long in going 100% raw, but I feel this book is in-depth enough to cater to most 100% raw food eating interested people. Any more depth would probably require you to start reading medical journals etc. I will post more feedback as soon as I get closer to completing the book. But it seems David's work is as valid as the Anthony's and John's work in their respected fields! *
Monow
* Just finished the sunfood diet book by David Wolfe. And I have to say it's a very good read. It's packed with so many thing from so many different subjects, it kind of makes your head spin. As a new comer to raw this book has been a real treat. It really gives logic to the lifestyle, along with so many different benefits of doing it. I know not everyone is into the spiritual side of things, so some of the aspects of this book may seem unwanted. But for me it has added a necessary element. I will define spirituality as being "in tune" with oneself and the world as a whole. Also the book is great as an off shoot to other books that may be of interest in an area you want to explore more. I think I have bought several other books mentioned in this book and I'm finding them interesting too. So anyone who wants a good raw book, would be advised to checking this one out. *
seand
i followed wolfe around for 2 years until i realized i, and everyone with me was rapidly deteriorating... if yer serious about raw i recommend you read dr. graham (specifically 80-10-10 book) at foodnsport.com. consider evaluating both authors to determine what would be best for you... congratulations on your interest in healthier living. Hi Seand, at the present I am trying to read as broad as I can on the whole raw lifestyle, as I don't feel anything less would do me justice. So I can appreciate you saying read Dr Graham's book aswell. I had checked out his site a bit back, though not to any great depth, as I have been adding to my favourite sites list as I have been googling the last couple of months. I would have sent for his book a bit back, but since it wasn't available at amazon, it had slipped by for the time being. So what do you appreciate about his approach to raw eating then ? Also who else do you feel is worth investigating more ? I enjoyed David's book a lot, I think as its a great global picture of what the raw lifestyle is about. So as a beginner/intermediate book it's great. Much like Alissa Cohen's book is a great beginner's book. But I am starting to realise that to really understand the lifestyle, I will have to read a lot of material from a lot of different sources, to make the best evaluation of what is right for me. In saying that, I'm always interested in getting new leads to new information, so anyone can chip in with good suggestions! *
andesuma
I agree with Seand. Two of my favorite raw foodies are Jeremy A. Safronand Frederic Patenaude. "The Raw Truth" -by Jeremy A. Safron is what finally convinced meto try the raw food lifestyle. (And do it successfully) I also really like there approaches to the lifestyle and agree withthe foods they consider toxic/aka. not good (ie. raw cacao, spicy foods) www.fredericpatenaude.com& www.lovingfoods.com
HealthyElijah
Hey Monow, I will chime in with my suggestion. Eat To Live by Dr. Joel Fuhrman - You can preview it here --> http://books.google.com/books?vid=ISBN0316735507&id=CX8huSU0n8AC&pg=PP1&lpg=PP1&ots=ub27jYK90X&dq=eat+to+live&sig=CXQzwADjHoobFM8emcIBw4u-UjI Even though it looks like a weight loss book it is really a Nutrition book disguised as a weight loss book. I have been living off of it for over a year and a half now. It is awesome and by far one of the best books out there on health and nutrition. If you sign up for the Dr. FUhrman forums you get a free searchable e-book of Eat To Live. I like the e-book because I can search for stuff in it. I have been a member of the Dr. Fuhrman health boards since August of '05 and have even given a local presentation on the Eat To Live diet just recently. nemo
very astute of seand to notice the condition of all the folks around wolfe. it always puzzled me how, and why the world's foremost whatever, was surrounded by folks who were constantly having problems, crisises, and breakdowns, and why so many of them kept drifting away from the "raw law" as long as they were around him. not that i think graham's any better mind you. Peter Ragnar is an intriguing fellow. his philosophy of immortality is interesting---and expensive. of course he never sees anyone, and lives in the woods, so that might help a bit. nemo

Bigbwii
Hi! Perhaps you want to have a look at this thread in another forum ...:http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=24355 Bye Andreas Why is it that when we are on cooked foods and we get sickness/aches and pains we don't say a word we happily go about our business but as soon as we get raw and we get any sickness and aches/pains we get scared and want to get concerned about nutrition? When are people going to realise that transitioning is not going to be a nice time they feel bad because the same crap they put in is the same crap that is gonna come out twice as toxic, instead of trying to apply cooked food nutrition to the raw lifestyle when things get tough. We are always looking for a remedy....and unfortunatly there isn't always one when it comes to the raw lifestyle and you just need to grin and bare it!
