Odidnetne
I'd like to maybe go white water rafting or windsurfing or both if that's possible. If anybody wants to do a day trip like that we can figure stuff out when we get there. I second that motion.

davidtarrfoster
If anyone can get out here by the evening of July 26th (which I guess would be a day or two early) we can go to "last thurday." It's a big monthly community event thing in Robert and my neighborhood. Just trust me. It's cool and you should think about making it. Basically thousands of hippies out all evening on the street doing crazy things and selling weird stuff.

robert
Hey man, nice to see you posting while I was away. Our official dates are July 28-August 6. I forgot about Last Thursday. It is a cool event. Not mandatory, but something we thought people would enjoy. So yeah, I'm hoping most make it by the 27th so then we can get to the beach house on the 28th. But if you happen to make it out by the 26th (we'll have places for you to stay in Portland) Last Thursday on Alberta St. would be a fun event to go to. davidtarrfoster........let's see you on here more often! Afterall you live with the guy who has over 6000 posts!

robert
I was wondering where the Pirate comment came from but I guess someone mentioned it early on that they'd like to go there I've been there 5-10 times since they've opened and I've had a pretty good experience most of the time. I can't fully agree that it is "horrible" but it's not one of the top vegan places in town. They are new and still working some kinks out I think. I've had some great times there, other times it was OK, and sometimes the food isn't as good as I'd hope for. I know the owner and some of the employees personally so I go in to visit and hang out more than anything. As far as food in town, I spend most of my time at Blossoming Lotus and Proper Eats. Hey....would any local Portlander like to write a Portland Restaurant Review Column? I think it would be neat and helpful for our out of town visitors. Guest
I'd like to write reviews when I go down there but all the places have to let me try their whole menus for free...as for the Tavern...I feel it would be far more Piratey if they had a Filipino on board...nobody is more Piratey than a Filipino
robert
I think it is pretty piratey actually. Not over the top, but enough. The main issues with Pirate's Tavern that I've heard from most people (and have experienced myself) are three-fold. 1. The prices are too high 2. The quality of food isn't very high and doesn't validate the cost 3. The location isn't that great (a couple of miles out of town in an industrial area). I really do believe the restaurant would do very well out on Hawthorne or Belmont and if they brought the prices down. Think about it. If there was a vegan (burger and fries place) down in Vegan Central (SE Portland) where people could walk to, stay out late, go to after a movie, etc. it would really do well. Especially if the prices were knocked down. I know some people who love Pirate's Tavern. My sister and her husband go all the time. I don't go very often, but that is mostly due to the cost and location. I'm normally downtown and eat at Blossoming Lotus because it's right there and has the best food in town. There are so many other places too. I mean, I live in a city where we have a restaurant called Veganopolis and I don't even go very often. It's a great place, very popular and cool, but there are just so many places, I don't make it to all of them very often. I would really like to see a review section for Portland Restaurants, especially since we'll have so many out of state visitors this summer. Guest
The thing that stinks is that if they moved closer to down town they'd increase the prices even more and the food would taste the same
DV
I would be willing to submit reviews for area restaurants. However, I think that reviews are never totally objective because we all have different backgrounds. Therefore, I suggest that some of us get together for dine-outs with a group review coming out of it. I would be willing to write the reviews. Who is willing to eat with me? loveliberate
Who is willing to eat with me?I could probably help with that sometimes...
