Paul Messplay
you do realize that is made from sugar right? This is true, however the process of creating Splenda isn't all that simple. " 1. sucrose is tritylated with trityl chloride in the presence of dimethylformamide and 4-methylmorpholine and the tritylated sucrose is then acetylated with acetic anhydride, 2. the resulting TRISPA (6,1',6'-tri-O-trityl-penta-O-acetylsucrose) is chlorinated with hydrogen chloride in the presence of toluene, 3. the resulting 4-PAS (sucrose 2,3,4,3',4'-pentaacetate) is heated in the presence of methyl isobutyl ketone and acetic acid, 4. the resulting 6-PAS (sucrose 2,3,6,3',4'-pentaacetate) is chlorinated with thionyl chloride in the presence of toluene and benzyltriethylammonium chloride, and 5. the resulting TOSPA (sucralose pentaacetate) is treated with methanol (wood alcohol, a poison) in the presence of sodium methoxide to produce sucralose." Agave nectar isn't so much a sugar substitute, it's a sweetener. Similar but different. Xylitol http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Xylitol

veggymeggy
Yeah, sorry folks, but fearing splenda = not rational. It's been through extensive studies and not been shown to have any negative side effects.
Gaia
And what is your view on organic fruits and vegetables as oppose to conventional or even GMO ones? They have all proven to have no negative side effects too, by the government agencies also. I did not mean to put down the product. It is just that I would never try anything that was made in a lab with all those chemicals. I am a little leary of anything that is suppose to pass through my body without being digested. Toxins are wrapped up in fat cells and stored usually. If it has something in it that you like, then try to make it yourself (cheaper that way too) using whole foods. cubby2112
A lot of people are against Splenda because the company did some terrible animal testing during R&D. http://www.vegansworldnetwork.org/vw-news2006-0121b.htmlThere is a link. I didn't check it, so I hope it is a good one.
bighead
yeah, Splenda killed a lot of animals during the products design and testing.
