Optimum Nutrition Soy Protein

Recommended Posts

I noticed veganessentials.com carries this so I figured it would indeed be a vegan product. I ended up buying the 2lb jug from another website and just noticed the following on the label:

"Allergen Information: This product contains ingredients derived from dairy and proteins derived from soy."

What gives?

Sorry if this has already been posted.

Are you sure it's not the allergen warning that shows it being produced with the same equipment as dairy, etc, but not actually in the product other than possible trace amounts? Most things have that label, I'd assume that's probably what it is if veganessentials carries it.

Yeah man, positive. It says exactly: "This product contains ingredients derived from dairy." Not.."this product is manufactured on equipment blah blah blah."

The labeling issue here is really weird - all the ones we carry say that they're still totally dairy-free and list "suitable for vegetarians", and I've re-checked all ingredients and it hasn't changed so it's completely vegan. We don't carry the larger 2 lb. jugs, though, so it's possible that there's either a labeling error on those or that the formula has recently changed to be non-vegan, though if that's the case I haven't heard anything about it. I'll be calling the company tomorrow to see what the story is and find out what's with the discrepancy!

Wow, great service! Way to follow up on that VeganEssentials. Cool man, it would be good to hear what you find out. Interesting how formulations change sometimes and customers are not always aware. Hopefully it was some sort of error or some other reasoning behind it.

Thanks for looking into it!

Okay,

I FINALLY was able to get someone over at Optimum (it isn't easy to get in touch with a product specialist there!), and here's what they said -

All the jugs they have in stock currently do not have anything listed regarding there being any dairy derivitives in the product, and that this looks to have been a bizarre misprint on the labels. All the new 1 and 2 lb. containers state that the product is in fact dairy-free as they should, so it seems that everything is fine with the product!

Whew! What a relief. Thank you so much for getting that info!
