Nuts and seeds rancidity

Beans and grains don't really get rancid they just won't sprout if they get old. As for nuts in a dry container they shouldn't get rancid they just get bland. I've eaten cashews older than your grandmother and they didn't taste much like anything. Oils are a different story though. I had a .5 liter of olive oil go bad on me once and I didn't notice. I poured it in a pan with garlic then poured it over my pasta. It tasted terrible then I checked the oil and it smelled really bad.
