CharlesV
Hi everyone. I've been reading about the whole raw vegan thing and natural hygiene for a while and it really seems to make a lot of sense. I decided to give it a try, mostly to try and cure this acne that's been ruining my life for the past 13 years. I also happen to be 6'4" and only weight 158 pounds and thought that maybe if i were to get more nutrients from raw foods i could be able to gain a bit of weight. Before i embarked on this raw vegan trip i had to eat 8000 calories of cooked food daily and i was still struggling to keep my weight on. So far i've been eating raw vegan for 1 month. My diet consists of bananas, apples, oranges, various berries, some dates, about half a cup of different nuts or seeds daily, peaches, watermelon, pineapples and grapes. I also eat a large salad in the evening containing lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, an avocado, mushrooms and some green pepper. My daily caloric intake is at 3500. For the first 2 weeks i felt awesome. I broke out a bit at first but it's been healing very fast and i am almost clear. I was very energetic, my strength went up and all was good. However, for the last 2 weeks, things have not been so good. Every time I eat a fruit meal, i have a stomach ache for 2 or 3 minutes and then i have to rush to the bathroom and all that's been coming out is watery diarrhea. I also had a small amount of blood in my stools for the first days but this isn't happening anymore. I was lost about 5 pounds in the first 2 weeks, which was probably junk and water weight anyway, but now I'm literally melting because I can barely eat anything. Every time i eat, the same thing happens and so I have been eating very little because i thought my body was trying to cleanse itself. I am now down to 143 pounds. At my height, i am looking like a skeleton, my cheeks are sunken and all the energy I had at first is gone. I takes me a good 4 hours to fall asleep too. I know I'm supposed to go through "detox", but it just seems so convenient to blame everything that goes wrong on detoxification and i just don't know anymore. I guess what I'm looking for here is advice from someone who's been a raw vegan for a long time. I want to know if this is normal, how long this is going to last, and what I can do to stop losing so much weight. Could anything be missing from my diet? I planned everything on nutridiary.com and i was getting 100% and more of everything so i thought that I was ok, but it doesn't seem to be the case... My advice to you is to read the old relevant posts in this section as all this has been covered many times over. Good luck buddy.
CharlesV
I read the entire content of the forum but haven't found anything that i can relate to really. Nobody seems to be discussing what their experience was when they "detoxed"

Zack
If you are having trouble digesting, but would like to eventually be raw, work into it slowly. Eat some cooked like rice and some raw and gradually up your raw intake until it's easier to handle. Going from one extreme to the other doesn't always work, ease into it.
