first cycling accident

i just started biking a few weeks ago and i had my first accident today. i was on the streets in my neighborhood and started from a stoplight in 5th gear out of 10. i got my speed up and was pedaling really hard (probably close to 30 mph) and the next thing i know i went flying over the handlebars and rolled a few times before getting up and getting my bike off the road.

apparently i power-snapped my chain and it wrapped up the back gears and sent me tumbling. i'm okay. very very lucky though. here are some pics of the aftermath.

Make sure you get a new helmet before you ride again...assuming you get the bike fixed. Luckily you had one on...most people don't.

I'd lean towards the Iron Horse as well.

I have a 58cm Trek Pilot 2.1 that's about 1.5 years old, very nice condition. I'm thinking of selling it since I hardly ride it anymore (I'm more into mt biking). Would that be too big for you?

I'd actually take the Motobecane Century Pro over the Iron Horse. Its new which is a plus...it's probably over 3lbs lighter...its likely much stiffer yet nearly as smooth thanks to the carbon rear seat stay. Also you'd have to deal with less corrotion. I know they use a ton of salt in the area you'll be riding and I'd much rather ride aluminum than steel.

aiiee. nice road rash. those ones where your skin gets sanded away really hurt.

it's cool you took pictures. my brother had an awesome one of his face from when he drove his car into a concrete wall. he looked like a bloody frankenstein with all the rips and stitches. he used it for his xmas card that year.
