McConnell's Mill State Park - Hippies Hiking

When we're kidless, we might as well be gypsies. We spend our time hiking, swimming and sleeping in the car. Every once in a great while we throw in some microbrews, hardcore and burrito/guacamole eating but...yeah, anyway. We stayed at the regional rainbow gathering for a few days before we needed to get out and get water/swim! One stop on the way back to Pittsburgh was at McConnell's Mill State Park. We hiked a moderate/rocky trail of about 4 miles along Slippery Rock Creek. Beautiful! I'm usually too consumed with life to take pictures this summer but I made an effort since we find ourselves preparing for the fall and I know I'll long for these "captured memories" come the cold, dark and snowy winter ahead!

Great photos! I'm glad you're having an awesome summer. We missed you out west but I'm sure we'll see you at a future event and some of us may be in your area later this year too.

It looks like you are seeing some really beautiful places! Have an awesome rest of the summer!!!!

I was definitely envious of the photos posted from Portland! We'll make it there soon enough, though! It's one of our top "to do/places to visit"! It's neat to know that so many board members actually live there and that a visit could morph into a vegan vacation at any time!!

Ya'll coming out to visit would definitely qualify as being a great time for putting together a serious mini-VV!

Lotus, myself & many others were really looking forward to meeting ya'll... Yr cupcakes & amazing cooking were also sorely missed!

Thanks for sharing the awesome pic's! McConnell's Mill State Park rates very highly on my western PA places to visit list. Lotus hiked there when she was a kid & speaks fondly of it.

I do have many fond memories of McConnells Mills, heck even a few not so fond memories...but anyway it is a fun area and I have spent a lot of time there. I love the picture with the roots! It looks like you all are having a great time!

If you start heading west soon you may make it here with in a year for VV 08! (There are tons of great places to stop along the way).

Why didn't I think of that?! Oh wait, I did. Just not possible - financial obligations dictate that we start working - soon! Work and Job are profanities in our household! Teheh. We're in the position now, however, to be more flexible with expenses. We'll be living in a vegetarian (communal?) house with our friend Steve. 3 veg*n adults and 6 veg*n kids! The shared costs make it less critical that we sell our souls and go back to the corporate grind. I'll do whatever, however, to make it possible to travel next summer.

We both look forward to meeting the Portland crew and tried to make it work for VV this summer, but, when you're living on $400 month, you can't justify spending that on airline tickets or gas!

Yea, working (for the most part) sucks!

We used to live in our van and travel, that way we did not have to pay rent! We would make money here and there, along the way. It will be nice to live in a community of like minded folks. Have a great time.
