Jessifly
Portland, OR area vegans : There has been much talk over the past few months of putting together a vegan house. Lately there has been increased serious interest in it so I decided it is about time to get this going. As of right now we have: -3 serious ready for move-in asap-2 maybes for the next month or so-1 for March 1st-2 interests for within the year-and 2 more for next year I am currently searching for a house for rent with the following..-Portland close-in-smoke-free, drug-free-organic garden -# of bedrooms depends on # of serious renters-pet-friendly?-approximately $400-$500 per month/per person (depending on total rent/utilities) If you are interested please send me a message describing your situation (ie timeframe/price range/etc) Also if you know of a suitable location for rent please let me know! Thanks! Edited October 16, 2007 by Jessifly
robert
Cool, I know there are a lot of people around here interested in something like this. I'll let you know what I hear from my friends in the community. I'm content at the moment kicking it with davidtarrfoster, my longtime best buddy for 15 years or so, but I know more and more people in this community are interested in what you are proposing. Best of luck!
Jessifly
Just a quick update on the house situation... I have found a possibility, it is an old historic 6+bedroom home in NE Portland close-in. I am still in the process of working out the details with the owner but this could become the vegan house within the next few months. The owner likes my proposal of a small community of conscientious caring people to rent his house but the house is his baby and he is hesitant. I have decided to compile a small official proposal to him about the individuals and the goals of the community. Many of you have contacted me with interest in being a part of this and while I am not at the point yet of starting any applicant/interview decisions yet I welcome anyone interested to submit to me more about themselves and their goals for the house and beyond so I can compile a more concrete idea for him. Your expressed interest at this point does not hold you committed of course and again this is not yet a for sure, just a possibility! fingers crossed! Thanks! Odidnetne
I'm interested, just not sure of the dates. If and when I get to Oregon, this is what I want to do, live with several other vegans, that way we can have a nice garden and things like that. robert
Awesome! Glad to see things moving forward with this. I know some of the people interested and it looks like you'll have a great group of people living together. I'll come over often to hang out. As I've said, I'm content living with davidtarrfoster at the moment and probably will for quite some time unless he boots me out, but I will come hang out often, if invited
Guest
Hopefully the owner realizes this is the best situation he can be in with young tennants. You aren't gonna get so many tennants under 30 without any big parties and at least a few crazy regular drunks.

That is a really good point, though it would sound like we're lying if/when we said "No, we "Seriously" don't have parties".
robert
Haha, that is how I described "OUR" group when I signed us up for the vacation house for Vegan Vacation II. I was like, "yeah, seriously, we don't drink, we don't party. We all sit around and look at our computer screens and chat with one another. We're a nice quiet group. Sorry to get off topic there, I couldn't resist. All the best with your awesome vegan house Jessifly and others!
Michelle
Too cool! Someday, I'd like to join you guys - but I'm going to be in Texas a bit longer. By the way, if the apprehensive landlord would like a reference, I'd be more than happy to provide one.

I think that would be great, I can give it to him with the proposal and I think that would really help, thanks for offering!
