Richard
Cool, that comes in handy when they go to the vets, and allows them to come out of their cages for some variety I guess. Has he interacted with any of the other animals?

Has he interacted with any of the other animals? Most of the cats like to just sit at his cage and stare all day... but my cat Pancake and Mr Ratty have had a bit of further interaction outside of the cage. Pancake is very curious to sniff him a lot and occasionally put a gentle paw on him... the rat just sniffs back.

beforewisdom
That isn't a wild rat and bred rats don't last long on their own. Where did you rescue him from?
Jessifly
That isn't a wild rat and bred rats don't last long on their own. Where did you rescue him from? Each of my roommates has an elaborate story about where this rat may have come from (the pet-shop purchase intended for a pet snake, an escapee from a testing facility, etc)... he's mostly people friendly so I pretty much think he was just a previous pet carelessly or purposely abandoned. He was found in some dumpsters near our house with laceration/burn injuries... when they found him he was enjoying some frosting remnants from a Sweetpea Vegan Bakery cupcake box... I find that part very entertaining
Zack
Don't leave that rat and cat alone together, the outcome will not be good.
Marcina
Awww I used to have a rat!! Her and my cat, Oreo were friends. If she opened up her cage and climbed out, Oreo would find her. He wouldn't eat her or even try to, but I still wouldn't leave them alone together. Cats like to play with things until they accidently lacerate an artery hahahaRats are so smart. I had to pile books on top of the cage to keep them inside. I'd walk around with em on my shoulder.
Kero
You rat is lovely I used to be scared of rats, but I changed my mind when I was working at a animal shelter and I got to know some rats; they are really smart and actually quite lovely. Lean and Green
Very cute Jessifly!!! When I used to visit my animal rescue 'friend' often, we would always try to capture as many mice from the garbage area in the basement with humane traps and escort them out to the fields an hr away from nyc where they could roam free and unharmed. We threw away all of the glue traps the super would place. We also rescued a mouse from a duane reade one. That is such a great picture of the rat and the cat sniffing each other. You can't possibly leave them alone to interact without the cat attacking...... can you?? I have never heard of a cat who doesn't get aggressive when around a mouse or rat; it would be cool for this to be the case! I have a pic of when I trained my parrot to be adapted to the dog and they were actually kissing each other but i'm not sure where that photograph is. Anythings possible like that show on the animal channel with that guy who gives pet advice. He has dozens of diff types of pets and they all roam around with each other and are friendly to one another. I love the name
