back spasm :(

Recommended Posts

working out a few years ago i had a couple back issues, then at work another, so it's left my back in the worst shape and feeling like a thin branch ready to snap at any given moment ....... a couple weeks ago i decided to do a little working out, but being on hiatus for some quite amount of time, i don't think it was the smartest to do so much ..... long story short, i wrecked it again lol ..... it's been about 2 weeks now and i'm still walking crippled

...... it's almost like this time it just doesn't wanna get better ... is it time for me to look into a nice cane? i'm thinking of a black one that'd look good

Ouch!

I can relate. As boring as it sounds, you should get into some core building excercises. There are some great Yoga poses which will really strengthen your back.

Have you tried physiotherapy yet?

i know i know yoga hahaha .... i've tried it a couple times but just can't get my head into, i have some mild a.d.d or something cause i just can't do the yoga, pilates or meditation stuff ..... i was actually doing that wheel roller thing (where you have the bar and two wheels in the middle and you roll forward and back) thinking it was a killer all body exercise for the core and all, and i read it sucks hardcore on the back, but didn't know it would be this hardcore

what are these "great yoga poses"? .... downward dog, that one scares the shit outta me cause my hamstrings are so damn tight that i can barely even do that one lol

I know a lot of people thing chiropractors are a fringe medical practice, but I swear by mine. When I was a kid I had migraines all the time. I didnt know whether it was from me growing so fast in so such a period, or what. We tried regular doctors, medicine, everything. Nothing worked. Then I went to the chiropractor and they just about disappeared.

I was two major bicycle accidents within a matter of years. I endo'd into the cement on one, my helmet saved my life, and ended with a broken collar bone and shattered shoulder blade. The other a car hit me and I tore both shoulders. Each accident ruined my back. Enough that the emergency care people told me I may need surgery to even function normally.

I just stuck with my chiropractor, and am completely fine. No medicine, no knife. Nothing.

If you think its just a back problem, and you havent torn anything bad (sometime you actually may need surgery on) I would check out a chiropractor.

Choose the right one, make sure you are comfortable with him/her. My friends back has been screwed for ages, and the chiropractor she was with was doing nothing. She came to mine, now all her pain is melting away and she can run/ workout again like she used too.

PS: The majority of the NFL have their own chiropractors. Most boxers and MMA people also. So I dont know why medical society believes its fringe. ~shrugs~

this isn't the greatest demo but it will give you an idea of the types of stretches to do.

I'll make you a granola crunching, tree hugging yoga poser yet!!!!

You mentioned that you have tight hamstrings. That could be part of the problem. You might also have other tight muscles, such as one of your psoas muscles or a piriformis. You need someone to check for this. I am convinced that my lower back pain and stiffness is caused by a problem muscle.

I am not big on "alternative medicine" as it really hasn't worked for me, but a couple back spasms ago I visited a chiropractor and it did wonders. I came out feeling like it had never happened, though moderate pain returned after a few hours, of course.

When I have back spasms I try to keep my back in as neutral a position as possible and rest. But I also try to walk around working on keeping my back very neutral and try to get my heart rate up and anecdotally I seem to recover more quickly when I get blood flowing to the extremities.
