Appeasement versus talking to other nations' leaders

Very good video clip. It shows (1) difference in leaders talking to other leaders versus appeasement and (2) that many of the sound bite arguers do not know about what they are talking:

I think Bush was just expecting people to not question what he said the way they accept everything else he says...or he just didn't know what the word meant(which is most likely true but his speech writers surely know what appeasement it)

Thing is though, you can be doing both. Just because you are talking to another leader, does not mean that you cannot be appeasing them, and that you are going to be automatically hostile.

 

Neville Chamberlain met Hitler in Munich in 1938 and 'appeased' Hitler - he couldn't only appease by not meeting him - though some would argue his actions were borne more from realpolitik.
