Emmybear
HI my name is Emily I have been a vegan for like 5 years. I LOOOOVEEE working out! I am not particularly interested in bodybuilding but I love fitness and the gym. I like to eat healthy vegan food but tofu ice cream is my weakness. I am not posting a full body shot till I get a tan. I live in florida but I am white as snow. Edited May 21, 2008 by Emmybear

Im Your Man
Hi Emily I hope your tan is gonna be natural (not in a tan saloon) !! If I can get a tan in Quebec with the small summer we have, everybody can do it in Florida!I love soy ice cream too, especially the chocolate one of course, as long as it's not too often it can't be that bad. Nice to have you here, I,m looking foward to read your posts and see your pics with the tan!

Lean and Green
Hello EmmyBear, cool username, nice avatar as well.... Glad to see that you LOOOOOOVE working out! =D So what do your routines in and out of the gym generally consist of? You live in 'The Sunshine State'! I'm sure you'll be able to get some color. Looking forward to seeing a floridian tan. I feel like the closer you get to the equator, the better the tan and pigment of your color. A nyc tan looks like burnt concrete reflected off and charred your skin, lol. Enjoy the forum.

Lena01
Hey welcome!! Peanut butter in the oatmeal was cool! And snow white skin is awesome too!
Emmybear
I have been putting peanut butter on oatmeal for years. I always want peanut butter for breakfast... on either an English muffin..or bagel..or toast...any kind of carbohydrate. I always use cinnamon too.. I heard it regulates your blood sugar...and it tastes so sweet.

Emmybear
Hello again.I am really enjoying the forum so far. Seeing what everyone else eats has made me realize that I have become a vegan junk food junkie. I think the people that I surround myself with has alot to do with that. I used to eat so much healthier and at regular intervals but I have kind of fallen off the wagon in terms of eating. School and not having a set work schedule anymore has done that. Even though my life is just about as crazy as it can get right now I am going to try to regulate my habits and keep the foods I eat a little more basic. I will probably feel better and might not be so darn stressed. Plus with my crazy workouts it seems a waste to ruin it with junk.
DV
Hi Emmybear! Glad to see that you are re-evaluating your diet. When I was your age I ate poorly and tanned a lot. If I could go back in time and change anything, it would be my diet and sun exposure. You are at your natural peak because of your age. If you make nutrition and health a priority now, you'll be way ahead of your peers and won't have to look back years from now wondering why you didn't come to your senses sooner! beforewisdom
Ditto to what DV had to say and I'll add some points. It takes more work and discipline as you age, but most people can keep a nice looking body for most of their lives. What makes people look over the hill, particularly women, is worn out skin. The two things irreversibly destroy skin the most are overexposure to the sun and smoking. The women who looked hot in college basking in the sun for hours look like hell by their mid 30s. It may be no fun passing up on tans, but you will get paid back for that, with interest, when you are in your late 30's. Your friends will look like those "leather ladies" you see on the beach and people will still think you are only 27. The best things you can do for your skin is minimize your exposure to the sun, if you smoke, quit, drink at least 2 quarts of water a day, and eat as much fresh produce every day as you can stand. Emmybear
I don't go tan in a salon or use the sun.... banana boat tan in a bottle works pretty good on me... it doesn't turn my skin orange or anything. I tanned a little when I was younger but I stopped a long time ago. I have not burned or tan in ages. I definitely do not smoke. I also wont set foot in a place that has smoke. beforewisdom
That is really cool. I probably didn't need to say as much. If you live in the part of Florida with beaches and tourists you have probably seen the results of years of heavy tanning more than I have. Eating good fats ( flax, walnuts, seeds, avocados ) really rocks your skin too. This site is written by Jack Norris. He cofounded vegan outreach and he is a registered dietician. It has more information about vegan nutrition than many books and it is free ( & short! ): http://veganhealth.org/
