  1. That group chat situation is genuinely one of the scariest things to discover - especially when half the contacts are complete strangers and your kid had no clue either. My coworker went through almost the same thing with her daughter last year. Teacher flagged the distraction, mom dug around, found a whole mess of unknown accounts in her DMs. The emotional spiral made sense once she saw what was being sent in those chats. What helped her was an Instagram-specific monitoring tool - she found a decent breakdown at Instagram Spy by SpyBubble . Wasn't looking to snoop forever, just needed to understand the scope of what was happening first. Turns out one account was a much older person pretending to be a classmate. Would've never known without actually seeing the messages. After that she sat down with her daughter, no blaming, just "look what I found, let's talk." The kid was shaken but grateful later tbh. At 11 they really don't have the instincts to filter who's safe online yet hope things settle down for you soon.
