  1. The increases in LBM from the baseline were very similar, as was the reduction in fat, again, from the baseline. It's important to notice that the whey group happened to start out with higher LBM and lower fat mass, which is why they still end up with higher LBM and lower fat in the end.
  2. Well the technical definition is simply someone who abstains from all animal foods and products, as well as insect products. So if you *consciously* consume or use any of those things in any form, then technically you are not a vegan. But I think there are many 'vegans' who use beeswax or lanolin or or or, etc. So they would be like 99% vegans, but many people think that's 'good enough' to count. Personally I think it's fine to put a number on it, but other people don't. So I suppose I don't have an actual answer for you, except maybe, "does it really matter?"
  3. Hey MF, you may have mentioned this already, but what do you do for a living?
  4. WOW that man is strong. I couldn't even get to 3x bodyweight when I was powerlifting before!
  5. This is frustrating. Has anyone here heard of selective breeding? We have been making 'GMO' foods for a long time, just not as advanced as at the genetic level. We have bred plants for specific properties for hundreds of years, and we are becoming better and better at it. The problem has always been the COMPANIES behind the PATENTS, and the MONEY behind the breeding, not the foods themselves. Please, anyone here that is afraid of GMO foods should immediately run to their nearest chemist or biologist friend and ask them what they think. There is NO evidence that GMO's are any worse for us than traditional foods. The risk is that COMPANIES choose to breed only the plants that produce them the most MONEY, thus breeding out nutrients in the process. From Wiki: "There is broad scientific consensus that food on the market derived from GM crops pose no greater risk than conventional food.[1][2][3][4][5][6] No reports of ill effects have been documented in the human population from GM food.[2][4][7] In 2012, the American Association for the Advancement of Science stated "Foods containing ingredients from genetically modified (GM) crops pose no greater risk than the same foods made from crops modified by conventional plant breeding techniques."[1] The American Medical Association, the National Academies of Sciences and the Royal Society of Medicine have stated that no adverse health effects on the human population related to GM food have been reported and/or substantiated in peer-reviewed literature to date.[2][4][7] A 2004 report by Working Group 1 of the ENTRANSFOOD project, a group of scientists funded by the European Commission to identify prerequisites for introducing agricultural biotechnology products in a way that is largely acceptable to European society,[33] concluded that "the combination of existing test methods provides a sound test-regime to assess the safety of GM crops."[34] In 2010, the European Commission Directorate-General for Research and Innovation reported that "The main conclusion to be drawn from the efforts of more than 130 research projects, covering a period of more than 25 years of research, and involving more than 500 independent research groups, is that biotechnology, and in particular GMOs, are not per se more risky than e.g. conventional plant breeding technologies."[5]" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plant_breeding http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transgenic_plants http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetically_modified_food_controversies#Health
  6. I would definitely cut down on the tofu intake. 'Everything in moderation' is one of the key ideas in a healthy diet. I would cut down on the processed soy before cutting down on the less processed soy. Tofu and soymilk are safer than faux meats. Still, try to find alternative foods that you enjoy eating. Beans? Peas?
  7. That could allow you to compete in a lower weight class though, yes? So that could really be good instead?
  8. Age, weight, height, gender? How many grams of protein are you getting in those 2000 calories? How many carbs? Are you taking any supplements or vitamins? Details are very useful when we are trying to help someone
  9. Personally I like taking B12, Calcium, Vitamin D, and DHA. I will also rotate the Calcium/D with a standard multivitamin sometimes. The DHA is rather expensive at $30/mo, but the others are pretty darn cheap.
  10. This is definitely NOT true. As far as calories go, your body will break down fats, carbs, and proteins, no matter what else you eat them with.
  11. I think you can trademark or patent or something.
  12. Just wondering if anyone here has been following a bodyweight routine and has or has not seen good progress from this style of training. Or if anyone has any thoughts or ideas with regards to this topic, I'm all ears!
  13. Of course it's in £! That makes the shoes $110 here in the US. Silly exchange rates. Try posting over on VeganFitness as well. They have many English and European members over there.
  14. Welcome! My wife and I are in Bakersfield right now. We moved here for our jobs and, of course, we hate it. I'm not sure if there are any vegan groups around here, but there is a Trader Joe's! As far as restaurants, there are some chain restaurants but only a few local options (mostly Asian food). Red Brick Pizza will make a pizza with Daiya cheese. Thai House is delicious, and Pho Hut is decent. Zaika Indian Cuisine has a lunch buffet that will knock your socks off (assuming you like Indian food, which you have to).
  15. Weren't there a lot of hate crimes around the time that blacks got their rights in the 1960's (US viewpoint here)? I think the increased media coverage, plus the increasing rights, are causing people who would otherwise just sit and be a**holes to actually go out and do a**hole things.
  16. As long as we have a like/dislike/upvote/downvote system, let's make sure there is a big sticky that says, "People shouldn't be downvoted for their opinions, unless they try to present those opinions as hard facts without providing proper sources." I hate it on places like Reddit where people will be downvoted just for having an opinion that disagrees with the popular voices. :/
  17. From what I have heard, the key to getting into an awesome country (Switerland, the Nordics, Australia) is to find a job that wants you and will give you a work visa. Having a work visa pretty much gets you into the country and, of course, also lets you pay for food, housing, etc.
  18. This is exactly right. There is nothing inherently wrong with GMO foods, but all of the current companies in control of GMO patents and litigation are super corrupt. Until Monsanto dies, I hate the idea of supporting Monsanto-funded crops.
  19. Sorry to hear the news! Hopefully you get it figured out. No PB's for right now ok?
  20. I am annoyed most by all of the parts I can change, but somehow choose not to. Fat mass, muscle mass, posture, etc. Everything else is stuck, and I'm not big on plastic surgery, so everything else is what I care about changing, but I haven't even gotten around do doing THAT yet, so I guess I am most annoyed by my brain.
  21. Can you run the leaf through a juicer? I have seen aloe leaves at the hispanic market, but I haven't purchased them since I hadn't a clue what to do with them!
  22. By calories, spinach is 30% protein, according to the FDA. http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/vegetables-and-vegetable-products/2626/2 One egg has about 11g protein, which would be about 366g of raw spinach, or 4/5 of a pound.
  23. Also this is a good resource for blended vegan soup recipes: https://www.vitamix.com/Find-Recipes/Search?sort=NAME&cat=Soups%2cVegan
