I have made a different list in the past which might be helpful to some. It's a list of fruits and legumes, sorted by lowest to highest calories. So in a food situation where you have to choose from some different fruits, or choose between some different legumes, and you are worried about calories, then you just choose something higher up on the list! Some foods are bolded due to having a high calorie content per 100g, indicating that they are foods to watch out for! https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0ApR-ifPr8Ch-dG1FMTV5OTZ6dFNVN0lBb21ULTJXaVE&usp=sharing

Dr. Gregor: Dental Health & Diet
Fallen_Horse replied to beforewisdom's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
Not really here to argue or anything, but I strongly support fluoridation of drinking water. I also support fluoridation of toothpaste, but if you can get away without it, then more power to you! I have to use fluoridated toothpaste AND a fluoride rinse, otherwise my teeth fill themselves with holes. -
Deva multivitamin vs Deva mini
Fallen_Horse replied to muchidna's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
Personally I go with the Mini, simply because I believe that multivitamins should be add-on's to a healthy diet, not a replacement for a healthy diet. That being said, I also take B12 (always essential!), vitamin D (my levels were low), and a DHA capsule (always useful). Unless you are deficient in a specific vitamin, I think the Mini is plenty of 'boost' to make sure you maintain your levels. Also note that the Mini has very little iron (10% DV) while the regular has 100% DV, so if you are worried about iron deficiency, that could be a reason to go for the big one. -
I'm not the OP, but it looks like celery to me.

Congrats on the positive changes to your health! I hope you were able to convince your doctor that diet really is an effective way to fix many 'first-world' illnesses. When I was 21 and vegetarian, my cholesterol was 211, and 8 months after going vegan, my cholesterol hit 96!! I asked my doctor if there was such a thing as having too little cholesterol, and she didn't know because she had never seen a patient as low as me haha. Stronglifts is a great program as well; be sure to keep us updated on your progress. Since you don't eat oils, I'm assuming you eat almost entirely home-made food?

I will never imply via inaction that veganism means eating any plant regardless of the law, so I speak up here for those of us who do not condone illegal practices as part of their vegan bodybuilding regimen. At best, it's unnecessary and at worst, it'll get you disqualified if your dream is competing. Frankly, I always considered the recreational use of controlled substances a sign of a marked lack of imagination. Have you tried meditation? Baby Herc +1

Looks too healthy to me! Seriously though, one great thing to add is beans! Also tofu if you like it. They add creaminess but at the expense of flavor, so be sure to up the spices if you add them.

Study shows rice protein is same as whey for building muscle
Fallen_Horse replied to robert's topic in General Discussion
Also looks like the study was founded by the same company whose rice protein was used, Axiom Foods. So I would take the results with a grain of salt unfortunately. :/ -

How to Get Good Posture
Fallen_Horse replied to Broccoli Monster's topic in Bodybuilding/Strength Training
This is a good article to start with some basic stretches and lifts to help posture. It's T-Nation, but it's still good advice. http://www.t-nation.com/free_online_article/sports_body_training_performance/deconstructing_computer_guy -
I think they have different goals. Here is the nutrition info for each: http://debbiemendrin.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/arbonne-choc-ingredients-cropped_thumb.jpg http://shop.myvega.com/core/media/media.nl?id=21169&c=1034580&h=3a21542384fd6150e42d&whence= As you can see, Vega is more about providing a 'whole food' protein shake, while Arbonne is more about providing a 'tasty' protein shake. So if your goal is to eat as healthfully as possible, I would go for the Vega. But if you goal is to have a protein powder you want to drink, then Arbonne is quite the way to go.

44 best bodyweight exercises
Fallen_Horse replied to stcalico's topic in General Fitness/Other Sports
I know it's a first-world problem, but I can't seem to handle having my face in the ground for my whole workout. Not sure what it is haha. -
As a vegan, make sure you: 1. Get a B12 supplement, 200-500% your DV daily, or 1000-5000% your DV weekly. 2. Get enough vitamin D from sun exposure, and if you don't, then take a 50-100% supplement daily. 3. Along with vit D, make sure you are eating foods high in calcium. If you can't get enough calcium from foods, take a 50-100% DV supplement daily. 4. If you use iodized salt, then that will be fine for iodine, but if you don't, you will need to make sure you get iodine from another source, such as a sea vegetable or, again, a supplement. 5. There is some recommendation for taking a source of DHA for overall health (not just for vegans). There are a few good DHA supplements on the market, but they are expensive compared to other supplements. I try to take a 300mg DHA capsule at least every few days or once a week, just to be safe, but the science on DHA supplementation isn't quite there yet, so if you want to hold off, it's understandable.

Bad unless you want to keep your teeth. Then it's essential.

truth about raw vegan gurus
Fallen_Horse replied to Comingtocyberspace's topic in General Discussion
I can sum up 'the truth' about raw vegan gurus more accurately than that article did in a dozen paragraphs: most raw vegan gurus are nuts! -

Yeah it would be nice if you could get enough power in a package that's smaller than the standard Vitamix/Blendtec, but I am only worried about it's durability. Let us know how it is!
