  1. DV's comment made me do more research today and there is a lot of information out there. All people can get skin cancer from the sun. Our diets can help too, and since we are all Vegan and I am sure healthy eaters we have a good weapon against the cancer. People of color do have a lot less cases but theirs is so deadly because they don't know they have it in time. I have been outside twice today already but have my sun screen on, maybe one of these days I will quit spending so much time out doors, but you live in Tucson you understand, who wants to be inside here? I guess better to be safe than sorry, I will keep wearing my screen. Oh so far I haven't found anything above SPF 32 protection in an all natural product.
  2. Ouch! Those things are dangerous! I hope you are okay though.
  3. I asked them but they were not interested I am still in search for a organic line that they like. I buy samples and try them out, hopefully one of these days we will have a winner.
  4. Also I just love the way they put the words "made with" in tiny print before the words Whole wheat or 100% whole wheat (which doesn't mean the entire product is 100 whole wheat, it means the wheat use 100% having all three components. At least this is what I always thought.
  5. Hello, I was just thinking about the whole wheat white bread the other day. My son won't eat whole wheat bread unless it is soft so I seen the whole wheat white and bought him that. But this is what I found from the Mayo clinic online site. White whole-wheat bread looks and tastes like white bread but has the same nutritional benefits as regular whole-wheat bread, also called whole-grain bread. Government guidelines recommend that you eat at least three servings of whole grains a day. One way to get whole grains in your diet is to eat whole-wheat bread. Unfortunately, many people — especially children — don't like the taste or texture of regular whole-wheat bread. So, food companies have introduced white whole-wheat bread. Regular white bread is made with refined grains — which go through a process that strips out certain parts of the grain. But white whole-wheat bread — like regular whole-wheat bread — is made with the whole grain. The difference between white whole wheat and regular whole wheat is in the type of wheat used. Regular whole-wheat bread is made with red wheat, which is dark in color and has a slightly bitter taste. White whole-wheat bread is made with an albino variety of wheat, which is lighter in color and has a sweeter, milder flavor. To get a softer texture, the whole grains of albino wheat go through an extra processing procedure. So how do you know if bread is whole grain? According to the Food and Drug Administration, whole-grain products must contain a least 51 percent whole grains by weight. This means "whole grain" should be first on the ingredient list. So check the ingredient list. If it doesn't say "whole grain" first, it isn't whole-grain bread.
  6. I was wondering where the beautiful features came from! Thanks sweet DV
  7. So sorry you had skin cancer and had to go through all that. You are right just because you can tan doesn't mean you can't get skin cancer. Arizona sun is extreme and I wouldn't recommend any fair skinned person to get out in the sun without protection ever. I spent my whole life living in the midwest with the crappy weather, and not going to do that here. A lot of people use umbrellas here or big hats, so they can enjoy the outdoors. Lots of sunscreen and taking my walks and cycling in the early AM and before dark. But I still tan right through the sun screen, but better than nothing. My husband and I do enjoy going to the pool, but I time it and if he wants to stay out longer than 40mins I sit in the shade. We only do this once a week usually. This year I got my tan in March when it was only in the 70's, rays are still strong but nothing like when it is 120 here.
  8. Thanks for the responses so far. I read them all and will try to blend the responses together. I do watch my diet like a Hawk to make sure I get all the nutrients I am suppose to get. But I totally contribue not having much PMS to my diet. From what I have read PMS is not normal, it is a deficiency. I used to have it bad until I stopped eating processed foods and started eating healthier even when I was a meat eater it went away for the most part. I did read that people who eat meat may have a heavier flow, worse cramps and pms due to the hormones in meat. I guess that makes since. So far we have some women who have noticed a change and others who have not. This is what I am trying to figure out, is mine age related too? That could very well be. I know a couple women who stopped completely by 45 unless they were taking hormones. I am not going to go spend the money on tests yet, I want to wait longer. Oh one other thing, my stress level has never effected my cycle in the past, but I have been under finacial stress the last couple weeks. Might be a combination of everything. I am back to making happy faces on my calendar again lol
  9. Lean and Green, Sorry you are afraid of bugs, I suspect you don't have your home sprayed so what do you do? We have huge Cockroaches that crawl up the drains and although not too many get in, it does make me scream when I don't suspect to see one. My daughter and I were out taking an evening walk and this huge Carpenter bee was flying around my head and landing in my hair, I started screaming lol We laughed later, but they are really big I have to admit I love Tarantulas though. It was very exciting to have 4 of them come up on the porch one late summer, not all at one time but all within a week or so. I was scared at first, but after he would just pick them up then I had to at least touch one so petting its back lol
  10. I'm downsizing to an efficiency nearby. Just trying to minimize my living expenses so I can save $ and travel more, mostly. Wow, now it's 4 am and I'm STILL awake. This is ridiculous. lol I think that is very wise of you to downsize so you can have more money to enjoy, congradulations
  11. I didn't find the greens bitter at all, not like some other greens. But not everyone is going to like them I guess. LMAO@the good old-fashioned rustic country pee
  12. Wow what a BUG, I am not a big Bug fan, but I have a rule for the bugs. You come in my house, you are at risk of being ping ponged between my two cats. It is actually quite entertaining, if one cat finds a bug she will call the other one in excitement and boy do they have fun. Hey I don't feel bad about it, not like I go and buy a live mouse for them, but my husband has suggested that, of course I won't do that. I actually like rodents to be honest lol And we don't have a problem with them coming in the house since we have cats. Rodents are smart bugs are not lol
  13. I am with you Marcina, I want to get Vit D from a natural source too. But I love the sun, I am not afraid of it. I do wear sunscreen though, I live in a Desert and don't want to have rubber skin later in live. As far as Skin cancer goes, that is my least worry I don't allow myself to get burnt. Speaking of sun, time to take a power walk, and will be outside at the pool for an hour or so today. I am so glad I am not fair skinned.
  14. Hi Girls, Hey I wanted to ask you all a question. I have been doing some research but really haven't found all the answers I am looking for. Since you have been a Vegan has your mentral cycle changed? All I can find out is, some women who are true vegetarians skip periods, but apparently this is due to low body fat. Mine have been a lot lighter since I because a Vegetarian last October but I have only been a Vegan a couple months and this month I didn't start till 35 days later, and that is very unusual for me, I have been on a 21 day cycle of a while now. I am trying to narrow down some things here, I will be 46 in Sept so things could be changing on their own too, but I really believe my diet is playing a huge part. What is your experience?
  15. About Murder, Maybe I should just go back and say I am a Vegetarian, Because if someone try to hurt my family, I will have to stop that person, and if it takes Killing that person, I wouldn't have to think about it twice. But at least Wrath is at the bottom of my 7 Sins list. This reminds me of yesterday. I was taking a brisk walk and seen a Hawk (my favorite bird) and two little sparrows were chasing it away, pecking at it, to save their eggs. They risk their lives for their babies, I mean a Hawk could easily kill them. Birds are very fasinating to watch. I love birds of prey, isn't that interesting lol The reason I love Birds of Prey is because of my Native American ansestory. Raven's are my second favorite then the Eagle. I am traveling to Illinois this week and part of the area has Eagle, so I hope to get to see a Eagle and takes some pictures.
  16. I am a little late on this thread, but wanted to comment anyway. I have only been Vegan a couple months and a vegetarian since October, I too have found that some Vegans are extremely self righteous and insulting. But like others have mentioned, we are all human and it is very difficult to be selfless. I honestly don't like humans in general, but I try to be fair and select my people on a case by case bases. Even here there is folks I just do not like, I feel negative energy from a small few. I became Vegan for the animals not for the humans. My biggest challenge is to love all of human kind lol I doubt I will ever get to that point, mainly because I know that a large amount of humans have dark spirits. So the best I can do is treat people with dignity and respect and leave it at that.
  17. I haven't posted here for a couple days, just not in the mood I guess. Today is back and chest day, since I don't life a whole lot in these areas, more focus will be on cardio. I will do two hours of power walking. Getting ready to do my first hour soon and will walk another hour before dark. It has been raining off and on the last couple days but that is good news for Tucson. However clouds make me gloomy regardless of how much we need to rain. Sun is back though. So will be at the pool this afternoon :0 Got to control my food today, the last couple days I was over doing it with salt but I always crave salt and sweet during TOM. I gave into these cravings since it was Free day anyway, but at least my sweet tooth was satified with tropical Hawaiian trail mix. Todays food log. I don' t have alot of groceries on hand the next few days but will do the best I can. Breakfast - Boca patty on whole wheat with some leaf lettuce and mustard. 1 small banana Mid Morning - Bake potato with a little vegan butter Lunch - 1 cup black beans with 1/2 brown rice Mid afternoon - 3 cups popcorn Dinner - 1/4 block of Tofu with steaming veggies
  18. Is your spinning class Les Mills RPM? I love that class, so much better than the old Spin classes and in less time. I was going twice a week but not so much lately, I would rather be outside. Oh if your gym is using the Les Mills new classes then your kick boxing is BodyCombate, really great class. I stopped taking it though, I screwed up my hip again from doing the lateral kicks. Took almost 8 weeks to heal so I won't be back to that class. The instructor says, Oh just do low kicks, but I am not that type of person, I won't be ablet to control myself lol. I have had this happen before with another Kick boxing class and when I was studying Tae Kwon Do. It was very disappointing to give that up, but my comfort is worth more.
  19. LOL sorry, I forget that not everyone has been doing cardio for 27 years. My Bad!
  20. Hi again, I just read your post here and if you don't gain weight very easy then you need to focus on getting in more muscle buidling foods too, without the proper nutrition you are not going to have the success you want. You have to feed those new muscles.
  21. Hi Emmybear, People will argue and argue about this. I have gone from aerobic queen, to cyclist, to sprinter (very bad sprinter I may add lol) Theanswer is, "the best cardio exercise is the ones you really enjoy doing" Nothing worse that forcing yourself to do something that you don't like, it puts you in a negative frame of mind and the whole time you just want it over with.
  22. I agree with everyone else. Lift Heavy and Hard. Try to lift 80% of your max strength. Forget low weight and lots of reps. The rule I follow for myself is. If I can get through 3 sets of 8 to 10 reps with ease, I need to increase my weight by 5 pounds. I am like you I don't want any more leg muscles. Have patience and remember we are not all created equal. I am not one of the lucky women who developes muscles easy. I have been lifting for over 14 years now and I still don't have huge muscles. I get stronger with hard work but not bigger. I remember last year pressing 500 pound reps on the linear leg press (LifeFitness machine) The tissue around my knees were not taking that well, but did my legs get bigger, Nope I just got a whole lot stronger. same with my arms. I do have definition but I am now back up to using 25 pound dumbbells I am not getting any bigger. My point is keep we are all different and some of us just get small well defined muscles, which is fine with me I recommend free weights if you use good form, if you are still a little new to that, get with someone that can help you.
  23. I hate to cook too I will have to check out the Chocolate cookies at Whole Foods. I don't shop there much since I have a Sprouts Farmers Market and Trader Joes just 1/2 mile from my apartment. But there is a Whole foods that used to be Wild Oats just 3 miles up the road. Boy I don't know what I am going to do when we move outside of Tucson. I guess I will have to be much more creative. I am so used to just walking to the store daily to pick up something. Oh I don't have to worry about Veganiase too much, my kids don't leave me any lol
  24. Very true, listening to your body at any age is really important.
  25. I do understand where all of you are coming from, and it is great to have fun and be driven by friendly competitions. But people are driven by different means and to improve the over all quality of ones life involved many factors. I am driven to workout more by just being really happy. It is weird though, I need to learn to workout easier not harder, but I won't allow it yet. I know that may seem odd to many of you, but most of you are not 45 years old either. Injuries are starting to become a problem. My shoulders are the worse, I blame part of this on all the softball I played when I was young. But really not complaining I love everything about being active and fit but I sure don't want to screw myself up. To many people end up in really bad shape by over doing it.
