Well, depending on the date of the wedding, you could hitch a ride from Oregon to Ohio with Michael and I. We'll be headed back through on our way home to the Pittsburgh area after vegan vacation. FYI.

Before weight watchers put a cap on fiber consumption - 70 grams would have been a dream come true. Essentially, with WW points, you are consuming 1 point with every 50 calories and 1 point for every 12 g. of fat. But, lucky lovely fiber lets you subtract points. Before, it was 1 point for every 5 grams. Now, you can subtract 1 point total from each meal from fiber - meaning you cap out at 5 grams. Anything over that is overkill. Bummer. If there wasn't a fiber cap, I would have eaten 5 cans a beans regularly followed by Michelle's suggested farting and burping and then a huge cake that would be point free!

OK, so I'm easily distracted. Music, music. I was just listening to what michaelhobson was listening to.

Aye, ya dirty bastard! It's summer there. I'm listening to the Lenny Kravitz fan station on Yahoo music. Ha! You beat me to it! I was just getting ready to post pictures of our "season". Summer in Sydney. At work. And here it is in Pittsburgh - freezing and after midnight! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/ice.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/snow.jpg

Going to begin cutting out all processed foods.. Giant Bean!

Brussels Sprouts! Mmmm! Michael and I often make an entire dinner of sprouts. Ok, so it's only been in the past month or so since in my 25 years of life I'd never once had them before! Probably my favorite vegetable! Especially steamed and then quickly sauteed with some carmelized onions and earth balance! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/DSC00761.jpg http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/DSC00765.jpg -
OK, my bad. I don't know how I totally missed speaklow's post on Sunday. Oh well - now ya'll see how to make Isa's seitan twice. She really is taking over the world!

I Used This Recipe! Combine nutritional yeast and vital wheat gluten in a bowl. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan1.jpg Mix liquids in a separate bowl. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan2.jpg Add liquids to the vital wheat gluten/nutritional yeast mixture and stir with a firm spatula. Why a firm spatula? I don't know but I do as Isa says. She is my leader! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan3.jpg Knead dough for 3 - 5 minutes until spongy and elastic. Let sit and begin preparing broth. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan4.jpg Roll dough into a long loaf - approximately 8 inches long. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan5.jpg Cut loaf into 3 equal pieces and place the dough into cool simmering broth. Isa's seitan is super salty. I cut down the sodium significantly and it was still a little too much. I'd half the soy sauce in the broth and use half broth/half water next time. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan6.jpg Cover but VENT simmering broth with cooking for an hour - turning gently occassionally. Let seitan cool in the broth for 30 minutes after simmering is complete! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan7.jpg Remove cooled seitan. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan9.jpg You now have gluten. Since this is a seitan recipe, do as follows - cut the gluten into desired size chunks. I did a few strips for the fajitas but cut the rest into smallish square chunks. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan11.jpg Lightly brush a cast iron griddle/skillet (or other, though Isa recommends cast iron) with oil and fry the seitan for about 20 minutes turning regularly. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan12.jpg Wahlah. All praise seitan. http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/seitan13.jpg

I've seen the sun set over the ocean, been to the west coast and done it in a group....but, wait now...I've never done it with cool veg*n folk - or wait, uhm.... Yeah, bring on the the circle, om's and sunsets! It'll be the best ever!

See the recipe section...step by step seitan directions will be posted tonight.

I spent a year living in a 100% hispanic household with my ex's Mexican mother. I'd say that I can make some pretty authentic dishes. This meal, wasn't nearly as authentic as I've done in the past but, cut me some slack because it was still wildly tasty. The beans that I simmered in a crockpot for 7 hours in broth with garlic, onions, cumin, chili powder and dried chipotle chilies turned out great! Michael - also known as burrito boy - said the beans were the best he ever tasted. If I could find a way to send it to you Glenn, I would. And, mexican is probably my favorite food, too. And, yes, broccoli is my ruler.

Vegan boxer desperately needs our help!

I just PMed him. -
Why thank you! and about the out of control - huh, what?

I pointed that out to Michael just yesterday - that Rogue is an OR brew. I haven't had many Rogue's. I've only been drinking alcohol for a total of 1 year of my life and there are just too many microbrews to try! But, given how much I like this chipotle ale, I'll have to try some other varieties, too - and soon! I'll be too poor this summer for anything other than a rare "home brew". Perhaps even too poor for that! And Rooibos is the best tea, ever! It's essentially the only tea that I really really like. With the exception of some gypsy cold care mixed with Orange EmergenC. Don't knock it til you've tried it!

When at Lehman's this weekend, we bought syrup to make homemade orange and root beer sodas! I have to buy 2 liters of another soda first so that I can use the empty bottles for the "brewing". I'm excited!

Fajitas and Chipotle Ale with Homemade Fat Free Refried Beans made in my crockpot. Dinner of champions! THE VEGGIES! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/fajitaveggies.jpg HOMEMADE SEITAN WITH PEPPERS AND ONIONS! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/fajitapeppers7-1.jpg PLATE ASSEMBLED WITH BEANS/CORN TORTILLAS/SALSA! http://i28.photobucket.com/albums/c240/veganmadre/fajitas.jpg

What European City Do You Belong In?
veganmadre replied to loveliberate's topic in General Discussion
You Belong in London http://images.blogthings.com/whateuropeancitydoyoubelonginquiz/london.jpg You belong in London, but you belong in many cities... Hong Kong, San Francisco, Sidney. You fit in almost anywhere. And London is diverse and international enough to satisfy many of your tastes. From curry to Shakespeare, London (almost) has it all! Excellent, though I think your math is slightly skewed - I just reworked the numbers in my head and got 938486.467%. So, maybe you just rounded up - in that case - perfect! Looks yummy! I was walking around the kitchen this evening drooling about pizza. I love artichoke hearts and spinach and carmelized onions and roasted red peppers... It's a snow day for my daughter tomorrow here in Pittsburgh - ice everywhere! If I end up home all day, I'll surely be in the kitchen whipping together some pizza, trying something new in my new crockpot and pressure cooking a bunch of pinto beans. Wow. I just realized how extreme that sounds (and I didn't even mention the dozen cupcakes I might also make...)

TV BAD - Kitchen GOOD as usual - agreed.
-
That is so cool! I really hope you get to meet up with Katrina and Liz - they're great! Funny to think that you'll meet them in another country and live only a thousand miles away right now! Enjoy your trips! What do you do, btw, to be able to travel so extensively?
-
Potter is a mommas boy - make no mistake about!
-
But naked with friends is so much more fun. agreed.

I 2nd that. by the way, what happened to Daywalker? did i miss something? Nah, you didn't miss anything. I exchanged email with Buzz over the weekend. The cult boys are just busy with other projects currently and haven't been online much. Ah, good to know. Last we'd talked about it, you hadn't heard anything. Glad things are fine over the pond.

I'll be spending the summer (perhaps more indefinitely..?) sleeping on the ground or straw. I could care less if I'm on a couch or bed or floor - I like to be near people when I sleep, though, so the more people who want to smoosh in with me/sleep beside me/sleep in the same room as me, the better.

If it weren't for the snow, I'd think we were in LA. The background looks so surreal. While we didn't go into the Palace on Sunday, we did go in last spring. I'd take Michael up on his "personal tour". Excellent guide. I'm not particularly fond of religion in any context but, I have to admit feeling a strange and wonderful peace within the Palace of Gold. Very meditative space.
