  3. I picked it up and read a little bit from it the other night and got really into it, it appears to be an awesome book.. I'm gonna have to add that one to my fast-growing must-read list!
  4. It was nice to meet you at the garage sale and the potluck! Sorry I didn't get to talk to you much but I'm sure I'll see you around a lot. You mentioned you'd like to get into climbing, I'm wanting to also, we should get a group together at a rock gym sometime maybe
  5. This passed weekend Isaac, his friend Steve and I climbed Mt Hood, the highest point in Oregon! At Timberline Lodge (5800') we put on our very heavy packs, strapped on our snowshoes and began our climb in the late afternoon. Here is the mountain looking up from the parking lot at Timberline Lodge. We camped on the side of the mountain at about 9000'. We had to dig a flat area in the snow and build a wall around it to house the tent from the bitter cold wind. It was a looooong night. I slept very little, waking up every 15-30 minutes thoughout the night because of the wind and cold. Here is our camp sitting on a "shelf"on the steep slope high above the clouds. We got up at 5am, ate some food and crawled out of our warm sleeping bags into the cold cold cold air. We put on our crampons, packed our climbing gear and food and warm clothing into our packs and were climbing again by 6am. Isaac Jessi Isaac and Jessi It was a tough climb. My boots were causing me a lot of pain on my heels, and Isaac was having trouble with his knee and the slope was very steep! We were getting closer, we could see the summit! Looking up to the top we watched as a large cloud decended onto the mountain and it brought with it a very strong wind. With only about 1000' elevation to the summit to go the fog and wind spread further down the mountain until we were completely in it. Several groups began decending the mountain. They said there was mountain rescue up a bit further turning people back. "Well, we may not summit today but the mountain isn't going anywhere" Steve said. And with that we made the decision to turn back also. Here we are, nothing but white all around us. Video: http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=2026240879

  7. here is a little bit of info.. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Balsamic_vinegar scroll down to manufacture The only possible animal product I see from this information is the mass-produced flavored wine-vinegar if they add white refined sugar, otherwise I don't see any indication that it's not vegan
  8. I use an omega also and I love it, I've had mine for about 4-5 years.
  9. Usually I don't like suspenseful/violent movies but this one I'm glad I saw and would recommend because It was definately an intense powerful movie.

  11. Monday 4/23/07 I have been meaning to start a blog for some time now. Today seems a good day to start this because today is day 1 on the Thrive Diet plan. I chose to start the Thrive diet because my friend and roommate Brooke wanted to try a vegan diet for a trial period with the goal of losing weight. I showed her my new copy of the book I just received and she liked the structure of the meal plan. So to support her goal I am following it with her and I am sure it will benefit me quite a bit as well since my current vegan diet is not very broad or varied. (I am following Isaacs blog format, his listing method seems to work well) Food: 10am 1/2 cup cooked quinoa 1/2 cup cooked yam 1/4 cup cooked wild rice 1/8 cup ground flaxseed 1/8 cup ground sesame seeds 2 tbsp agave nectar 5 strawberries 12pm 1/2 clove garlic 1/4 cucumber 2 cups mixed greens 1 1/2 tbsp nutritional yeast 1 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds 1 tbsp pine nuts 1 tomato 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar 1 tbsp hemp oil 1/2 tbsp dry basil 1/2 tbsp agave nectar 1/4 tsp black pepper 3pm 1 banana 4 strawberries 1/2 cup almond milk 2 tbsp ground flaxseed 1 tbsp hemp oil 5pm orange banana 8pm 1/2 cup almonds 2 cloves garlic 1/4 cup ground flaxseed 1 tbsp balsalmic vinegar 1 tbsp hemp oil 1 tbsp coconut oil sea salt 2 cups mixed greens 1 red bell pepper 1/4 cup fresh basil 1 1/2 tbsp nutritional yeast 1 1/2 tbsp sesame seeds 10:30pm dates brazil nuts carob powder (raw fudge) 11pm 3 dates
  12. I LOVE Vegan with a Vengence. I just received my copy of Thrive and went shopping today for the recipes for the first week of the 12 weeks. I will start tomorrow! Also my roommate (a meateater) is going vegan with the Thrive plan (as a trial, but I suspect she will like how she feels going vegan and perhaps it will be more than a trial!)
  13. You Are Sunrise http://images.blogthings.com/whattimeofdayareyouquiz/sunrise.jpg You enjoy living a slow, fulfilling life. You enjoy living every moment, no matter how ordinary. You are a person of reflection and meditation. You start and end every day by looking inward. Caring and giving, you enjoy making people happy. You're often cooking for friends or buying them gifts. All in all, you know how to love life for what it is - not for how it should be. What Time Of Day Are You? http://www.blogthings.com/whattimeofdayareyouquiz/
  14. *gasp* Not my pizza?!!?! Just kidding.. my fault.. I keep forgetting to take it!
  15. It's been awhile since anyone's posted a blogthings. I don't think this one has been posted yet You Are a Seeker Soul http://images.blogthings.com/whatkindofsoulareyouquiz/seeker-soul.jpg You are on a quest for knowledge and life challenges. You love to be curious and ask a ton of questions. Since you know so much, you make for an interesting conversationalist. Mentally alert, you can outwit almost anyone (and have fun doing it!). Very introspective, you can be silently critical of others. And your quiet nature makes it difficult for people to get to know you. You see yourself as a philosopher, and you take everything philosophically. Your main talent is expressing and communicating ideas. 16. loveliberate, thanks for the information! For now I'll see how everything goes with my friends place. In this little condo we've currently got 2 dogs, 4 cats, a ferret, a guinea pig, a rabbit and 4 humans under the roof. But so far it's been fairly smooth, much to my surprise. If it doesn't work I may be messaging you at some point to check out your complex. Aaron, thank you also for your help. I'll have to check out that housing board if my new place doesn't work. Robert, thanks for letting us hang out a bit when I was locked out! If I wasn't so exhausted from moving I would have been better company.. I could hardly keep my eyes open I'm so glad to finally be in Portland and I really look forward to meeting everyone!
  17. I've read that cardio is good for detoxing but weightlifting while detoxing can make you sick from lactic acid
  18. As some of you know I am moving to Portland in less than 2 weeks, my last day of work is Saturday. I was just informed today by a secretary that there is a going away party being planned for me and another employee at work on Friday. I work in a pharmacy in a chain grocery store. The pharmacy coworkers know I am vegan but they are not the ones throwing the party, the people planning it do not know I'm vegan. The secretary said I need to be there at noon to slice the cake with the other employee. I know what the cake is.. a typical grocery store bakery cake full of lovely chemicals and animal products, our bakery offers nothing close to animal-free. I'm not sure what to do! Refuse to eat any, then face the "oh, come on" pressure? pretend sick? bring my own cake? tell them before the party I won't have any? As an enthusiastic vegan I think I should take this opportunity to educate all of my coworkers on the realities of what is in that cake, but this party is not just for me, another employee is retiring.. I don't want to steal the spotlight and bring down her celebration. ack, my first vegan social dilemma...
  19. I used to leave out carrots for the reindeer, too! ..And I left carrots out for the Easter Bunny as well
  20. Thanks so much, I'd really appreciate that! This place sounds great!
  21. aww, she's so cute.. how wonderful of you to take her in even though you're allergic! It's hard for me to resist helping you out with her, but I had better limit my pet-rescuing for now, finding a place that will allow my 3 pets is pretty hard as it is I hope you find a great home for her!
  22. If I have a place with extra room by then you two would be more than welcome to stay there Thanks loveliberate! I've been checking Craigslist daily.. I've sent several replys but have received zero in return yet. As far as what I'm willing to pay that really depends on the place, the lower the better (for a room $300-$500/mo) but depending on the size, location, etc I could pay more for the right place (apt/condo/house - around $600-$700/ mo.. possibly up to $900/mo but it'd have to be really perfect!) I'm not sure of the exact location of where I will be working and I am not very familiar with the neighborhoods of Portland yet but I think a central location, more close-in would be good. Just not so far out as like, Gresham. My preferences are a yard or nearby park for Sierra. That's really all. I get along with everyone so I think I could live with anyone, I suppose I would just prefer responsible roommate(s). Oh, and non-smoking roommate(s), at least not indoors.
  23. I have a room to rent from my friend when I arrive in Portland the end of this month, but she's got a small crowed condo as it is so with me and my animals I'm going to need to look for something more suitable for us. Anyone know of someone looking for an awesome roommate and/or renter such as myself? I need a place that will allow my friendly old mellow doggie and 2 loveable indoor kitties. Thanks! Jessi
