  1. Last year when they said it was gonna snow in Portland, that day came and went and I saw maybe 4 flakes of snow falling and melting before they touched the ground... my boss asked me if I wanted to go home early from work because of the weather, and he was serious... it's a little different in Colorado, the year before I moved out here I actually had to go into work during a blizzard and couldn't even get home from work because my neighborhood was buried in 5 feet drifts. I had to leave my truck stuck in a snowbank on the highway and snowshoe a half mile to my house. (My roommate was kind enough to trek out to bring me the snowshoes!) But anyway, I'll be very excite if I actually see snow on the ground here this weekend, I do love the stuff
  2. We once again have an opening in the Vegan House of Kindness. Room will be available beginning of January. Clean, large, private with bathroom. $425/mo + shared utilities (about $45/mo) Requirements: Kind Vegan Non-smoker No pets No drama
  3. Thendanisays told me last night you cut your hair Richard, and I just couldn't imagine that! Just saw this, it looks really good! (And best of all you can't do the cutesy pigtails now to compete with my entry... hehehe! just kidding!)
  4. To me veganism is quite simple and yet all-encompassing: Do the most good, do the least harm.

  6. I haven't been on VBBF much lately and I just saw this! I got a text message from Dani last week that she was hired there too! Congrats you too! I didn't do much but I'm glad I could help and that it went so smoothly for you two!! We need to get together soon, huh?! Robert's back in town, Tasha's back from Corvallis, I'm free this weekend, Loveliberate wants to un-hermit... can we all plan some sort of meet-up?!
  7. I had a membership to a Fitness19 for a couple years. I was happy with the membership, the place had tons of cardio equipment, even during busy times I never had to wait. I have no complaints about their strength equipment either. Definitely a good place for the price. I do actually prefer my membership with 24Hour better though, mostly for the group classes
  8. Would you rather read about peoples puke? Cause I got an apricot story.... when I was 12 I had a crush on a really cute boy, we were hiking and I was feeling a bit of altitude sickness, he offered me a dried apricot and I puked at his feet! lol But anyway, I LOVE dried apricots besides at that moment .....mmmmmm.....
  9. Sure but I don't mean literally what do they eat, I mean what would be the price/delicacy-equivalent of fancy-schmancy foods but vegan... I looked at the menu for those restaurants you listed Robert and that was exactly what I was looking for, I'm gonna pass on some of of those entree titles to him. He is into gourmet cooking and although he's not vegan perhaps I can be a guinea pig for some gourmet vegan experiments.
  10. Yesterday I was talking to someone about how odd the foods are the some people pay extraordinarily ridiculous prices for such as caviar and fois gras. Then he asked "What do wealthy vegans eat? What would be a ridiculously spendy gourmet food for a vegan?" What do you all think? My thoughts are truffles and some raw-food creations or super-foods. But for fun I'm curious about more ideas....
  11. Thanks for your contributions and help friends! It was a major aspect of the fundraising that everyone attending the cabin was to attempt to get donations of money and goods for the silent auction before VV, but unfortunately there was very little success, but we couldn't turn everyone away so we proceeded with VV as planned. We had several cancellations to the cabin as well that contributed to Robert and I having to absorb more costs. Almost everyone who attended chipped in a bit where they could in purchasing food though so that was helpful! There were unexpected costs as well such as the disposing of 14 large bags of trash after 2 weeks of 10-15 people at the house, we completely overlooked that until we had to deal with it afterward! I feel I need to give recognition to those who have helped quite a bit already... Robert donated t-shirts to each cabin participant, plus donated countless amounts of food and Vega VeganPotter was our first donator for VV08 back in December of 07 from his pottery sales Dreamingana donated money Laura made the highest monetary donation pre-VV08 (even though she was unable to attend, we are hoping she can next year!) I know everyone chipped in with the food purchases for the week but noticeably significant was the amount of groceries I witnessed LeanandGreen and thendanisays contribute bvp663 donated lots of Probars to the cabin food supply HSOrlando made some food and monetary donations to the group Jason just made a significant donation to help out davidmNY donated quite a few of his cd singles Thank you to these VV'ers and to anyone else I may have forgot to mention! If you'd like to help besides money we could use items for selling in the silent auction, we will organize this fundraising event as soon as we can accumulate enough items. Quick note also, there are several people that still owe me for the Batman movies tickets... contact me if you're not sure, I've checked off those who have paid me back
  12. Hello! We recently learned that one of our adored roommates (Speaklow) has big adventures awaiting him and he will be moving far away soon! We are looking to fill his place asap for somewhere between 2-7 months and likely longer if his adventures take him elsewhere. A little about us and the house: We affectionately call our home The Vegan House of Kindness. It all started from a few of us vegan friends envisioning a place where kindness was the theme of the household. Not too long after coming up with the idea things fell into place and the house became a reality! The house is located in NE Portland just off MLK and Ainsworth on a very nice and pretty quiet street. The house has extraordinary landscaping and a backyard with lots of garden space. We have had a few things growing like strawberries, grapes, artichokes and tomatoes! There is a large front porch (we'd like to get a hammock put up sometime!) The house is 3 stories (basement, main and attic). On the main level is large cozy living room with a fireplace, a spacious kitchen with lots of windows, two bedrooms rented by myself and Robert and a shared bathroom. There is a bedroom upstairs (attic) being rented by Tasha. The room for rent is located in the basement,it is private and separated from the rest of the basement. It is quite large (the largest bedroom by far) and very clean. The homeowner doesn't mind if it is tastefully painted by the renter. Currently it is a pale blue with dark blue carpeting. In other rooms/areas of the basement is a second bathroom, lots of storage space, washer and dryer, and Roberts product storage areas. We keep the community areas pretty clean and we have a chore list with occasional household meetings. From time to time we host friends from out of state to stay at our home for a couple days at a time on the main and upper level, all of our friends are extremely kind and respectful and quiet. Besides that it is a VERY calm, quiet and peaceful household the majority of the time. Me: Jessi 27 y/o vegan female http://www.Jessifly.com I love hiking and climbing and am often gone for a few days at a time on mountain adventures! I work 2 part-time jobs, and I will be taking a class or 2 at PCC and I am also quite busy with the Mazamas climbing organization. I have 2 indoor-only kitties, Sage and Pancake. They are the only pets the homeowners will allow. They are very sweet and super-friendly! Robert 28 y/o vegan male http://www.RobertCheeke.com Robert is hardly ever here! He is always gone for work, travelling on his speaking tour! Robert runs veganbodybuilding.com and is the regional rep for Vega (http://www.myvega.com) Tasha is a 30 y/o vegan female http://www.myspace.com/tashanwest Tasha is an avid cyclist, and raw foodist. She may also be taking classes soon as well. We are asking $425/month and that does not include utilities. We divide the utilities equally between each person. Let us know if you'd be interested in taking a look and interviewing with us! Thanks! Jessi
  13. Dr.Pink... I recommend the movie Sharkwater to you. Sharks are quite amazing creatures that don't actually need to be feared as much as they are! My one and only hated pest is mosquitoes... everything else I've encountered so far I can live with. I'm pretty scared of big hairy spiders but I love them anyway... they eat the mosquitoes!!
  14. Speaklow,Tasha and myself are planning to be there!
  15. True! I apologize too much, but usually out of sympathy (ie:I'm sorry=I'm sorry you are having this problem) True or False: You have a song/artist on your workout music you don't want anyone to know about
  16. I might be interested... but only if the farm is no-spray/organic?
  17. I think animal food as a supplement to a vegan diet is not the same as having what someone would call a "healthy omnivorous diet" but I suppose literally it is. Although Jack Lalanne is definitely not the norm when it comes to "healthy omnivorous diets" so that is what I mean by you can hardly compare his diet as a vs vegan diet because it is healthy and very close to vegan. There are many important reasons for being vegan/veg and every reason holds its own weight within the individual based on their life experiences and beliefs.
