  1. ME TOO. I live in I guess what could be considered a lower-middle class/working class area and I can't tell you how many people have asked if I'm going to breed my (RESCUE!) dogs, or if I'm going to "make them mean", etc etc. It's disheartening, but I try to take those opportunities to educate people at least a little bit about responsible breeding, etc. I mean, I love my dogs a LOT, but you can get probably 100 dogs who look just like them at shelters in the city of Philadelphia and most of them are doomed! Breeding more is just crazy. Early spring around here is like "pit bull season" where everyone's out walking their shiny new backyard bred pittie pups that I never see again after summer is over. I will definitely post pictures when I return. One of my friends who is coming is a photographer, so I'm going to ask her to bring her camera!
  2. Thanks everyone! You all are so sweet. I know, his story is horrible. I can't believe that he's still alive, let alone in good physical shape after what he's been through. He's only 11 months, so he must have really been a baby when all of those horrible things happened to him. It also says that he's afraid of "big men," so if Achilles comes home with us, my husband's job is to arm himself with treats for when they meet. I am really getting excited. I even talked to my mom, who has been wary of me having 3 dogs again, and she seems excited about Achilles coming to live with us. I also got an email today from Achilles' foster mom/the head of his rescue that said: "Btw, your vet called me back himself and he just raved about you and your husband being just great pet owners, so Achilles would be lucky to have you for his guardians! " That just made me so happy, especially because our vet office is about 10 doctors and they somehow always remember us and remember our dogs. Even when we're in with one dog, they ask how the other is doing. When I've been in with my dogs recently, they've told me how sorry they were to hear about Cornholio's passing (I posted about this in June). They're just the best. Bigbwii, I think you're right! Also, GO YOU for doing a "bad breed" specific rescue! All of my dogs are pit bulls (mixes - all rescues) and Achilles will fall right into line there. It's sometimes hard to overcome a breed's bad stereotypes, but me and my babies are trying!
  3. I am so excited I could burst! This weekend I am piling into the car with two of my lady friends, and my two pups, and we are driving to Columbus, Ohio to meet this handsome fellow, Achilles: http://www.measlesanimalhaven.org/loveabull.htm (his story is heartbreaking). Assuming everyone gets along, he will be coming home to live with us! I lived in Columbus for a bit when I was 18/19, so I'm excited to go back. People keep treating me like it's CRAZY to drive 8 hours to meet a DOG, but we're picking out someone to join our family and live with us for the next decade plus... it seems like that time is a small investment. Plus, he is a dog who really deserves a good home (they all do, but you know). We have one and we're willing to share! Now we just have to see if my current pups are as willing as my husband and I are. Anyway, think of me this weekend while I'm on the road! I do not like driving, but he's worth it. (Is it just me, or are at least half of my posts about my dogs? Yeah, I thought so, too.)
  4. Looks like fun! I could really go for some of that pizza right now, too!
  5. Thanks, it's feeling much better already! Hahaha. Thanks! I try to take good care of them.
  6. Yikes! Mine aren't actually pulled, they're still there, thank goodness!
  7. You are very brave! After a day of having this interfere with eating (GASP!), I made an appointment with the dentist! Enjoying eating is very important to me.
  8. Oooh, good luck!! One of my goals in life was to keep my wisdom teeth (they were enough trouble to grow, after all!) and so far, so good.
  9. At least there are no bats in the cave. Hope your tooth gets better, Nicole. Will they have to pull that one? The rest of your teeth look healthy. My molars looks like a silver mine compared to yours. Nope, no pulling. I've never even had a cavity and all of my wisdom teeth are in great shape, this one just got jerky, but it'll be okay soon.
  10. Haha, oh yeah! That would be a real problem if it was the color!!!
  11. That's not really a problem for me.
  12. The airport is pretty far from "the city," but there is good public transportation to get there. Govinda's is an amaaazing vegan Hare Krishna place that serves chicken cheesesteaks and great desserts (Vegan Treats). There are also a ton of awesome veggie chinese places (some also with great desserts - Lotus Cake Studio). I could seriously go on all day about the vegan options in Philadelphia! Let me know when you'll be around and maybe I'll give you the tour!
  13. So, my wisdom tooth decided to grow in some more after already being "in" for years and it had some kind of blow out. The dentist has me treating my gums with gentian violet (it's a very purple anti-infectant that STAINS LIKE CRAZY), which is kind of a mess! Behold! http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/nicole/violet1.jpg
  14. Oh, I can eat, believe that! There is ALWAYS room for cake.
  15. I wish I even knew where a place that pretty was!!!! I think I need to get out more.
  16. Haha, my dogs don't much care for rain, but they love the hose and the sprinkler. I can't get anything watered without also watering the dogs!
  17. Last night I took my dogs swimming over to a friend's house who has a pool. It was their first time and they didn't much care for swimming, but Wrigley probably drank about half of the pool. It was dark, so it's hard to see. Wrigley wears a red collar, Maizy wears a blue collar and is taller and the black dog is my friend's dog, Riley (she is good at swimming). Maizy and Wrigley were really bad at swimming (and splashy). Bonus (???), you get to see me in a bathing suit! A rare thing, indeed! http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/mules/pupswim01.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/mules/pupswim02.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/mules/pupswim03.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/mules/pupswim04.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/mules/pupswim05.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/mules/pupswim06.jpg http://www.ilikeitsalty.com/storage/mules/pupswim07.jpg
  18. Oooh, looks like fun! I've been to Sticky Fingers, but it was a few years ago and I don't think they had soft serve... looks like I'm headed down to DC soon!
  19. Ooop, didn't even have to wait that long. Here's what you're looking for: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4705482.stm.
  20. I was talking to my husband over dinner and described the video to him. He said that he had read an article which was the story behind this particular video and that the troops are actually British, not American (which would explain the accent of the cameraman). I asked him to look for the article and if he finds it again, I will post it.
  21. I'm confused because the person filming (I'm guessing that wasn't dubbed in after?) does not have an american accent. I don't know what each military wears in combat, so I don't actually have the ability to tell that this is the US army. Also, the person in the video says that the teens were shooting at the military, which adds another layer to the story and doesn't just make this "random beatings." It's not like these are 5 year old kids and I think the word "children" really plays on people's emotions rather than presenting things as they are. I suspect that whatever happened BEFORE the military moves forward was edited out to create a more one-sided story, so I'd like to see the rest before passing any judgement. It's not at all that I don't think that the military are (unfortunately) capable of horrible acts, but I'm just not a very reactionary person and don't believe something like this without seeing the full picture.
  22. I am a (Baptiste style) Power Vinyasa teacher, so that is mostly what I practice. But I have been getting into some ashtanga lately and starting Saturday through next Friday I will be doing a teacher training in the ashtanga style with Manju Jois. I am really excited about it and can't wait to see what I learn.
  23. I'm so jealous! I'm definitely coming next year... and you're all doing yoga with me!
  24. This is so cool!!!! You guys look great.
