  1. Fantastic picture! What is this PWO of which you write? I'm curious as well to know the cals and macros you consume in a typical day while leaning out and simultaneously rounding out your delts. I don't intend to compete, but I'd love to know how the vegan competitors here do it. I'll be doing more training journal browsing here! Good luck!

    HI!

Actually, this is my first show as a vegan. THe avatar pic is from April 2006, when I was still eating meat.

My macros are pretty much 150g protein, 40g fat 150g carbs = 1700 calores. However, the numbers change as I get closer to stage(as do the cardio sessions!)

I've hired a coach to guide me (read:I don't have to think) through the critical final weeks. SHe's worked with vegans in the past with incredible results so I'm excited!

For me personally- my delts stay lean easily but I have to work hard rounding them so I continue to lift heavy with lower reps right up to show time.

    THe legs....that's another story!

  2. Happy SUnday!

This morning I met my dear friend (and fellow vegan!) for track/stadium work. TBH, my legs were still feeling like poo poo from yesterday.

In all, we did 6X100 meters with 100m recovery, about 2 laps jogging, 2 sets of stadiums:Running, lunging, walking, side squats, stairs.

My heart rate made it up to 173 and I burned about 575 calories in one hour.

    Preworkout

    meal #1: 1/4 c oats, 22grams Rice PP

    PWO (post workout)

#2: 1 block light tofu, onions, baby portabellas, 1/2tbsp olive oil, turmeric, mrs.dash. 2 slices cin raisin ezekial toast, 5 strawberries.

I couldn't finsih #2, I am STUFFED! I'll finish it for #3 in about an hour

  3. I'd like to get into FAME sometime. You should tell us more about your experience with FAME.

All the best with your pro contests!!!

    Thanks Robert!

FAME is great because they are 100% (well, you know) drug free. I took both a urine test and a polygraph. Winners are test (urine) again immediately after they step off stage- which helps with people who abuse prescription diuretics.

FAME is based out of Canada, also known as WNSO. They have a multi-tier system, you may compete in 'elite' but you must win an overall title to compete in the pro division.

    Here's the website: http://www.wowfame.com

I believe MuscleMag was a big supporter at one time. I know Oxygen (same company) features FAME athletes alot.

    Have you looked into MuscleMania?

    Are your kids Vegan too?

    I've got 3 kids all vegan... Aged 81/2, almost 6, and 5 1/2 months

Would be cool if they had a Vegan bootcamp in Portland.

    - G

No, they're vegetarian. I try to sneak in as much vegan stuff as possible! Most of the time they don't even know I did it!

  7. Hello everyone!

I've been away for some time but I'd like to reintroduce myself.

I'm Janis, happily married for 9 years, a Mom of 2 and a personal trainer/bootcamp instructor living in suburban Atlanta, GA. I volunteer at Good Mews (a no kill shelter focusing on cats) a few times per week as well as lending my big mouth when needed for various other causes.

I participate in figure competitions and obstacle course races. I earned my pro card in April 2006 (FAME) for figure, at this time I don't forsee any competitions at the pro level in my future but it's an honor to have it.

I'm hoping to compete in my first obstacle course race as a vegan in November 2007.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge and smashing the misconceptions that vegans are wimps!

  8. Chalisa:

    Congrats to you too!

I've been much more energetic, hypoglycemia is much improved and my skin is clearing up!

-If you wanna look like a figure chick, don't shy away from the big weights.

-If you don't already, add sprinting and stadiums to your weekly schedule. Great for leaning out the legs, ham/glute, overall conditioning.

-Master the art of walking in 5" clear heels while wearing a $300 bikini you can't swim in.

  9. Welcome to our group Moxie!

Heather Morgan is really cool, and I think out of all of us on the forum, she has been competing the most lately!

We're glad you found your way to us, and I'm sure Heather had something to do with it

All the best and welcome aboard!

She looked absolutely stunning in the October 7th show! (I competed too) She's been totally supportive- not to mention a tad bit excited- about my recent decision.

Next for me is the Georgia half marathon in March to support a charity, April is the Womens tri-fitness in Atlanta, July is a figure comp, October is Nationals and November will be my first "pro" show since winning my pro card in April of this year. (FAME)

During this time I'll also start attending massage therapy school part time while working and taking care of the boys. Training and competing will be a stress reliever!

  10. Hello and welcome. I new to veganism also. I am happy to hear that you are not having a problem with your hypoglycemia since the change.

Please let me know what you have eaten before and are eating now. I have had problems with my blood sugar going to low before also.

    Thanks and great to hear.

    Hi Barb!

I was eating lots of sugar free junk (cookies, posicles, pudding, etc), processed foods, too much caffiene, and lots of dairy. Since adding more fruit, tofu, whole grains, nuts and eliminating artificial sweeteners, I feel great. On the typical bodybuilding diet I became carb-phobic. I stopped worrying about getting "enough" protien and too much sugar and just ate balanced.

I also don't rely on caffiene in the afternoon, I'm in a steady state all day.

  11. Tee hee.

By fresh meat I mean newly vegan! I'm a fitness/figure competitor as well as a recreational runner. I work as a full time Mom of 2 boys, personal trainer and group exercise instructor. I live with my husband of 8 years, 6 cats and dog in Marietta, GA.

I've been inspired by a friend and fellow competitor, the fabulous Heather Morgan, to give the vegan lifestyle a chance while continuing my training and into my future competitions.

A few days in and I'm learning the more you educate yourself, the easier it is. Having competed in fitness I'm accustomed to preparing all of my food before I leave the house, so 'finding' things to eat hasn't been too hard.

Another thing I've noticed is my hypoglycemia has been inactive since making the change. That rules!

I look forward to learning from all of the great athletes on this board! (And the non athletes too!)

    Janis
