  1. Haha, those guys are the stoner Duke's of Hazzard of MMA! Yeee haw!
  2. Haha, I have to agree with SportyDog. Boxing, Muay Thai, Wrestling, Jits...where it's at. I took ITF Taekwon-do for 6 years, which taught me solid linear striking and devastating heel kicks, but is in itself a very incomplete martial art. Since I began training MMA, my confidence regarding how I would actually do in a street fight has gone up immensely, as the well rounded and high stress training really prepares you for the chaos of an actual fight. I just hope if I do end up getting in a street fight that it happens on grass or that comfy rubbery asphalt....because I'd really like to win by triangle choke. Yeah, that would be SWEET.
  3. OMGAWD me too, me too, and me too!!! I'm hip to your jive sister.
  4. Yeah, Crocop rules. He is one of my favorite MMA fighters, and one of the ones who inspired me to begin training again. I have a TKD background and was always told by other MAists that high kicks were useless. It was very satisfying to see Mirko smoking people in the dome with left high kicks over and over and over. He has been on a losing streak lately, but I'm sure he will be out of it soon enough.
  5. Lacrosse was the only team sport I ever loved and ever played! I always sucked horribly at baseball, basketball, football, etc....all the mainstream shit. My junior year of high school I discovered Lax and I STILL to this day go to the park with my other LAX buddies a few times a week (common occurrence in New England, haha) when it's nice out to pass the ball and run around. I played D, and still use a long stick. I got asked to play by a few of the varsity guys in HS (I was 6'3", 200, and doing well in Xcountry), and they ended up training me in the off season so that I could try to make varsity as a junior for a sport I had never played!! I figured I would suck just like I did at every other team sport, but for some reason I really took to the stick and the whole ninja cradling action deal. I guess not having to actually handle the ball in a sport makes a big difference for me. Also, you get to take 90 degree swings at people with your stick, which is bad-ass. I played Lax until my sophomore year of college, and I loved it!!! Go play!!
  6. Hemp is where it's at baby. All the EAAs, PLUS Edestin, an amino acid present only in hemp which is considered an integral part of DNA....making hemp the closest plant source to our own amino acid profile. Combine that with superior ease of digestibility, and the fact that hemp protein is raw, and you have a winner.
  7. Oils being bad for you is nonsense. Hemp, flax, coconut, fruit seed, AND olive oil are all FINE and should not be avoided for any reason. The other day I had some overweight lady who was a "nutritionist" (with a degree mind you...*puke*...) telling me how bad coconut oil was for me and how milk was the "perfect food". The fact that people like this lady advise others on a daily basis on how to eat infuriates me. I seriously wanted to go so far as to call her out on being ingly overweight and out of shape and having the balls to call herself a nutritionist. But yeah, EFAs and omegas are great, and plentiful in the right oils.
  8. I really would like to see a Hughes-Serra fight, only because we missed out on it at the end of last years TUF. I personally just don't like Matt Hughes all that much, and would love to see him lose to Serra. Hughes really looked like shit in the fight against Thiago though, it's a shame. He IS a really good wrestler, but I do believe the sport has evolved past his level as well.
  9. FOX?!?! NOOOOOoooooooooo.....!!!! The last network I want putting their dirty, nasty hands on MMA is FUCKIN' FOX. They bailed on UFC all those years ago, and it was for the best. I hate all things Fox!!!
  10. Thanks for the welcome everyone! I've already heard great things about this place from everyone over at Vegan Fitness forum. Yes, so far I love how much of a difference what food I have been eating has made in my life. I never thought that the impact could be this fantastic, mentally or physically. If this is how good my first year is, I can't wait for the ones to follow. I have been very successful in getting others to try eating a more whole foods plant based diet based on my results as well, and have even convinced two of my friends to go completely vegan. They are both also experiencing the "Thrive" effect, and it makes me very happy to have helped them. I am beginning to think that my calling is to help convince the masses that this is the way to live. I am amazed by how few people enjoy this diet, and how many people think it's total unhealthy nonsense. Looks like there is a lot of work to be done!!
  11. Hey everyone! I have been a vegan for about 8 months now, after being ovo-lacto veggie on and off for years. I was inspired by several vegan athletes to give it a shot, and I have been absolutely loving it. I train MMA 4-5 times a week, and it has helped me excel very rapidly in my training. I have been primarily following the principles of The Thrive Diet by Brendan Brazier, with great success. I am 6'3" and 185, in the best shape of my life, and I am going to try to get my first pro MMA fight within the year (I just turned 29). I trained ITF Taekwon-do for many years as a teenager, but have only been training in MMA for less than a year. This seems like a great forum and it looks like I can learn a lot here! Cya around!
