  1. I use Vega One as well. Have you checked out their line of performance supplements? I havent done a side by side comparison of nutrients so I don't know the differences. But, the performance line does offer a post workout option. Maybe someone else on here knows why the performance line is better for pre and post workout?
  2. Welcome, you look great! Do you feel better not eating high protein?
  3. Aluck...do the best you can and don't be so hard on yourself! Seriously check out this video from Tonya Kay: L&G...Glad to see that you are well! I am moving to Albina soon and have found a renewed passion for raw food prep. I would love to have you and Dani over for some raw meals!
  4. Hi Dani! I can relate to what you have been through, thanks for sharing this. I have had problems with binging and emotional eating problems also undiagnosed anorexia when I was a teenager. I am currently reading and learning a lot about the mental/emotional aspects of being healthy in regards to what we choose to consume. Anyways, I am also in Portland and am starting (again) on my raw vegan transition! I would really enjoy hanging out with like-minded, supportive, friends in the area! I also have a small dog, want to go to the dog park together? I will be moving to Albina (just off Alberta and Mississippi) very soon, so excited!
  5. You moved? This place is so awesome, they even have lots of raw "deli style" dishes and a great salad bar!
  6. I don't see how this is relevant. The methanol poisoning was allegedly from the aspartame in diet soda. Gatorade does not contain aspartame, there's no reason for it to--it's meant to replace salts and sugars in the body. I believe that he was drinking diet gatorade which did contain aspartame. Regular gatorade is pretty high in calories (310 calories for 12oz.) I was just trying to emphasize that there are probably better options that are healthier. Gatorade Ingredients water, sucrose syrup, glucose-fructose syrup, citric acid, natural and artificial flavors, salt, sodium citrate, monopotassium phosphate, ester gum, sucrose acetate isobutyrate, yellow 5
  7. I agree about the recommending too much processed food. But the reality is that when someone is eating SAD, they need those processed "substitute" foods to help them get through. I have purchased at least 6 copies of this book and given it away and the people I shared it with agreed with the principles, but were not strong enough to stay Vegan. As someone who has struggled with staying on a whole foods, plant based diet for many years, I understand that what they eat is really an emotional issue for many women. I haven't yet found what works for me, but I think that the book did a good job of trying to make people understand that this is a lifestyle and more than just a diet. I know this thread is older, now they have a version for men called "Skinny Bastard" and also a cookbook "Skinny Bitch in the Kitch" as well as workout DVDs and a journal! I would still recommend these books as an intro to Veganism for people who have no clue what this lifestyle is all about. I would just recommend that it be used as a starting point and that the readers research more. I hate to see this book promote Veganism as "just another fad diet" and that will happen unless the readers embrace change and fully give Veganism a chance.
  8. I haven't read Dr. Graham's book but have noticed that when I eat pretty much 80-10-10 I feel great. I eat mostly fruit, half an avocado and some greens every day. Still trying to eliminate sprouted whole grain bread, but I am close to transitioning to 100% raw for awhile.
  9. I was thinking the same exact thing! LOL....you can tell that we both are raw foodies Gatorade is no good. This is a summary of what happened, you can view an entire article here (http://thetruthnews.info/finishedaspartame.htm) Charles Fleming, 37, played basketball every Sunday. On a hot summer day in June, 2000, Charles came home and drank a bottle of Gatorade that he and his wife Diane had just bought to mix with creatine, a food supplement. Charles wanted to try creatine because it promised muscle mass. This particular Sunday was the first time Charles ever drank Gatorade; the Flemings bought it particularly to mix with the creatine. After drinking the Gatorade with the supplement, Fleming became ill and went to bed early. The next morning Fleming went to work but, feeling ill, went home. Fleming's condition deteriorated rapidly and he was taken to the hospital. During treatment, Fleming was given Ativan because he was combative and confused; from there, he slipped into a coma and died. The autopsy showed Charles Fleming died from 'acute methanol poisoning'
  10. I can totally relate to what you are going through, but I have a lot more weight to lose! Something that has really helped me with mindless or emotional eating is Yerba Mate tea. In South America, they call it "the drink of the gods". Instead of snacking I drink some tea and if I am still hungry, I will eat. Yerba Mate contains vitamins, minerals, amino acids and antioxidants. I like the "Empowerment Mint" tea, Iced. http://www.guayaki.com/index.php?p=health Also, have you tried eating a lot more whole, raw, unproccessed foods? I find that when I start my day with tea and then only eat fruit until noon, I feel much better and make better food choices later in the day.
  11. I love BMX! I currently have a Santa Cruz Hardtail....I am just learning how to ride downhill.
  12. Thanks for posting this! I am seriously addicted to Papa G's! A meetup there would be fun...
  13. I am not sure where Rock Creek is but I think it is out towards Beaverton, which is about 30 min from Downtown if there is no traffic. I see ads all the time for roomates wanted that specify that they are Vegan friendly houses.
  14. There are 4 malls that I can think of in the area and downtown offers a lot of free-standing stores that may be found in the typical mall. Portland even has a Vegan strip mall and the best damn tempeh-lettuce-tomato sandwich in town can be found a block north of there at an all vegan co-op coffee shop. http://www.foodfightgrocery.com/
  15. You should check out Portland Craigslist to get a good idea of prices. If you don't drive, you would want a place in SE, North or NW, maybe even Downtown. Stay away from Beaverton or Gresham...not very vegan friendly. I rent a studio, no kitchen, all utilities paid for $670 (of course it is a little more because it is a floating guest house). I have friends who have found really nice studios from $600-$750.
  16. Truthfully I am a very naughty vegan.I do not eat enough vegetables.I do enjoy a huge fruit smoothie every day with like 5-6 portions of fruit in it.But I have not done any green smoothies (I presume that is vegetable smoothie?) What combinations would you advise are yummy? Green smoothies are a great way to consume greens without feeling like you have to eat 50 salads a day. I like one or two bananas, frozen mango and pineapple, coconut water and a big handful of spinach. Because you are blending the greens, it easily digested. The greens helps slow down the release of fruit sugar into the bloodsteam too! Green smoothies are a great way to start the day!
  17. Probably...I'm not for percentages...just trying to get more raw in while reducing my intake of cooked vegan food. When I eat a cooked meal I certaintly feel it! That's great for you! Do you also enjoy Green Smoothies? They have literally changed my life!
  18. Yeah, I remember you! How exciting that you are moving to Portland! I would totally love a raw food prep buddy, I bought some raw food prep toys like the spiralizer and a mandoline...just discovered "goneraw.com"...I am overwhelmed with over 3000 raw recipes to try! I am about 80% raw...trying to go all the way...I love green smoothies lately

  20. Ok, so I am not sure if "Sauvie Island Farms U-Pick" is no spray/organic. They did not specify on their website. Upon further research I found this place: http://bellaorganicfarm.com/ They have Peaches and some berries left. It looks pretty easy to find. I'm thinking of going mid-morning on Monday.
  21. Hi! So I have been thinking about going to Sauvie Island farms in the next couple days. They have ripe peaches right now for $1.50 a pound! They also still have some berries and vegetables. If anyone is interested, let me know! I will be going Monday the 11th or Tuesday the 12th.
