  1. I just PM'd his contact info to you. Rik
  2. AFAIK, Joe doesn't do any in-person personal training any more, but he does do some online consulting (like the work he's doing with me on my nutrition plan). Rik
  3. thanks for posting those pics! looks like you had a great time in Sweden, too
  4. I tracked down Joe and he will be working with me on a nutrition and training program. He now manages a gym, so he's not doing personal training any more. I'm psyched to have someone nearby who has been as successful as he has. Rob - Thanks for the lead!
  5. Hi all, I'm looking for a vegan trainer in Boston, but haven't found anyone who fits the bill. Is there a list of trainers anywhere that I've overlooked?
  6. The worst part for me was this: No wonder he had a heart attack!
  7. Great! Make sure you sign up for the meetup group so you'll get updates: http://vegan.meetup.com/507 Looking forward to meeting you! Cheers, Osric
  8. Hi Aly, Consensus seems to be a that a variety of protein sources are the best way to supplement. I use a variety of sources, including Vega (mostly hemp), Nitrofusion (a blend), and Builder's Bars (soy). Some of this stuff can be hard to choke down as is, so a blender is your friend. Effectiveness depends on your own body chemistry and activity level, so take the guidelines as a starting point and see what works for you. Writing down what you're eating and when you're eating is the best way to find the gaps in your diet (and in your training!). This helps me make sure I keep eating lots of whole foods and don't become a supplement junkie. I'm sure others here will have lots to say on this topic... Osric
  9. It is pretty easy by subway -- Blue Line inbound from Airport to State Street, change to the Orange Line outbound to Roxbury Crossing. The festival is right across the street. Trip time is about 45 minutes.
  10. Yes, most of the food at the Boston Vegetarian Food Festival is vegan. Since I don't do the veg*n food fest circuit so I have nothing to compare Boston to. The speakers last year were really great (including Robert), and the place was packed, lots of food samples and lots of stuff for sale, too. I had a great time!
  11. I was thoroughly inspired by the week in the woods in Espoo, so I've started a Vegan Fitness meetup group for Boston-area folks. Anyone who's interested can join the Meetup group here, which should help streamline the organizing process: http://vegan.meetup.com/507/ Our first event will be a Boston City Hike on Saturday, November 1, at 4 PM. This event coincides with the Boston Veg*n Food Festival. The hike is scheduled for the afternoon when most folks are trapped in the conference rooms listening to the speakers -- come out for a hike instead! I'd love to put together a weekend full of fitness activities for folks who are in town for the Festival, so let me know what activities you're interested in and I'll get the ball rolling. Cheers, Osric
  12. I'd love to see something a little more earthy -- green or brown shirts, organic cotton, maybe a stylized vegetable flexing
  13. Laura - looking forward to hearing about the Stockholm end of your trip. It was great hanging out at VFW!
  14. Hi all, I just got back from Vegan Fitness Week in Finland last night and thought I'd post an introduction here. (Find out more about VFW over at the VeganFitness.net forums, it was amazing!) I've been vegetarian since I was a teenager (over 20 years) and mostly dietary vegan for the past few years. I started training seriously again about a year ago and have plateaued a bit... which was when I realized I really need to find a group of likeminded folks to get through the rough patches and share successes with. Spending time abroad made it really clear what great resources we have at our fingertips here in North America. I work out at Revlolution Fitness in the South End (formerly Columbus Athletic Club, nee Metropolitan Fitness), and yeah, I'm gay (in a long-term relationship, this isn't a personal ad). I'm interested in starting a Boston-area meetup focused on fitness, nutrition, and bodybuilding. Anyone interested, please PM me. I'm looking forward to making new friends locally, across the country, and around the world. Cheers, Osric
