  1. I think sometimes when I crave stuff like this, its just because I like the way it tastes. I try to tell myself that I'm craving peanut butter because I need fat, or I can't get enough cherry tomatoes because I need some sort of mineral, but for the most part, when I really just can't get enough and can't stop eating it, its because of how it tastes. I know there is truth to craving foods that are filling a nutrition gap, but I don't think you'd go so crazy with it if that was the case...you'd just eat it and be over with it.
  2. Mmm..the cherry cashew one sounds great. They do remind me of Larabars, Clif Nectar bars, and the like though. Actually these are slightly more processed since they have the rice protein in them (I'm not against that, just saying).
  3. I'm planning on canning some homemade pear butter for a majority of my "small" gifts. My family will just be getting whatever they ask for
  4. Sounds really cool, I will have to try!
  5. Oh my gosh, I would have to be 111 lbs. I don't think I have ever weighed that much.
  6. Where in CT? I'm in NY, but I meet up with a friend in CT frequently.
  7. Bananas. I love bananas. I love that they make me feel full without making me feel heavy. As far as my favorite tasting food (although I do love the way bananas taste too), I would say curry. I love curry. Or any kind of spiciness, really.
  8. Sounds like a great idea. I would definitely head down to DC for it.
  9. Why do you want it locked and not have a stickied thread with suggestions from others? I've tried the first one pictures, I think it tastes completely horrible. I use a 50% gemma, 50% rice blend from trueprotein.com
  10. The trailer seems like it'll be really interesting. This is the kind of stuff that needs to come out to theaters though!!
  11. I miss Hawaii! I lived there for a year, I hope you're enjoying it
  12. I agree that I would still be vegan, but wouldn't watch my soy intake as much.
  13. Oh my gosh, that is a lot of food!!! Sounds good though! I agree that I would just partially cook it. I don't know what kind of pasta you're using but whole wheat does take a tad bit longer, but 10-15 minutes is a lot. I would bet that you probably cook it less, you just don't realize. Have you tried it yet? Enjoy!
  14. You really like cookies huh? (Kidding, just because you mentioned them twice...I am a vegan cookie fan myself). Welcome! I hope you something on here can give you the push to stop falling back to meat.
  15. Well that seems silly. And I agree that she probably was vegan for shallow reasons. Not meaning that her reasons were shallow, but that they didn't run deep with her, she probably just didn't really love meat, so didn't mind going without it. or did it for dietary reasons only. I can see having strong cravings for meat, but I don't see any reason why it can't be overcome...but then I've also yet to be pregnant...
  16. Cool article! Something I should show to my husband...
  17. I added you! I'm so jealous you are going to Hawaii! I lived there for about a year, I totally miss it!
  18. Because eggs are the byproduct of a hen's menstrual cycle. That's just gross. I'm a big fan of Colleen Patrick-Goudreau's podcast, and one of her episodes I listened to yesterday talks about this. Her opinion was pretty much the same. Okay, well if they're really REALLY being raised humanely, then I guess I don't oppose people eating them. But...I never would, even knowing that. I know what it IS and its gross. Plus, very few hens are actually raised with this purpose. Most hens, even if they claim to be "humanely raised", aren't.
  19. Mmm...can I just be half? I think in general I try really hard to be a happy person, but with my husband being overseas, right now its a little hard to see any light at the end of the tunnel. But I try...
  20. Hm, I have never had my Magic Bullet leak into the motor. I agree that they are completely incomparable though. I mean...the price tag alone should show that! I've been wanting a Vitamix for awhile, but I just can't bear to pay that much.
  21. I happened to track my fiber yesterday and it was 44g. Seems appropriate to me. You can technically eat too much fiber, what I have read is that too much fiber will prevent your body from absorbing nutrients. I don't know how much truth there is to that, and/or what level is "too much". It's usually recommended that you get 25-35g, but that seems impossible to me, eating a vegan diet, and eating as many calories as I do.
  22. My husband had it done in May of 2007. He had pretty bad eyesight to begin with, -8, I believe. It went well, he was happy for awhile, but by December of that year he needed glasses again. They were just -1.25 or something, but it's still frustrating when you paid all that to not need them. They have gotten worse since then, I think he is up to -1.75 now. The good news is that the doctor who performed the surgery has agreed to do a "touch up" for him when he gets back form Iraq. Who knows if it'll last, but at least they're trying. I have a friend who got PRK done at the same time as my husband, and his has stuck. But, his vision also wasn't as bad as my husband's.
  23. I like seitan and things that are made with a similar principle. I have yet to master it boiled though, so I prefer to bake it. It's pretty easy. I try to get a variety though, I feel like too much wheat gluten can't be that great either. Nutritional yeast adds a bit of protein, if it's something you like it's a good addition, I think. I don't know if you do protein powder at all, but I've been using a gemma/rice blend that I made at trueprotein.com, and I am a fan. I'm trying to not have my diet to too heavy on soy either.
  24. Oooh, I wish I could come! A friend of my husband's used to work there.
