"intelligent" people speak out against healthcare
CollegeB replied to beforewisdom's topic in General Discussion
This is the problem with making social issues political. Obnoxious morons come out from everywhere and they talk and talk but you know they don't fully understand what they are talking about. They only have something to say because they just watched glenn beck or michael moore. -

No exemption, man that sucks! And it cost you some really big bucks. Was it worth it? -
African Monkeys Killed to Make Swine Flu Vaccines
CollegeB replied to Duncan_Idaho's topic in General Discussion
vegans against vaccines My university in IL wanted me to get more vaccines and I filed a "religious objection" to get out of it. I filled it full of ambiguous statements about animals and respect for their lives which sounded somewhat religious. Things worked out fine. Don't get me wrong I'd get a vaccine that was needed if it was not animal derived, but a lot are. -
johan the issue with tea and zinc may not be believed to be true anymore. I had read it in a sports nutrition book about six years ago, and that book was probably a few years old at the time.
-
Tea is a zinc blocker and I drink a lot of tea so I supplement with zinc most of the time. Otherwise I am not worried about it though. I'm thinking though that the antioxidants in tea may have the same function of zinc so that is interesting...

Bill O'Reilly supports a Public Option for health care
CollegeB replied to beforewisdom's topic in General Discussion
I think that O'Reilly supporting it just makes this healthcare thing even more obvious as a scam. Even less people should be in favor of such a plan or option (or whatever you want to call it) now. -
US Senior Citizen Speaks Out on Healthcare Bill
CollegeB replied to Vegan Joe's topic in General Discussion
I stopped shopping at wal-mart because they are lobbying in support of the government health care thing, minimum wage laws, and other misuses of government power which tells me in general they are too involved in our politics and i'm just not going to support that. I've taken my business to all kinds of other places which mind their own business as far as I know. Whole foods does have some delicious vegan donuts by the way; well worth the effort of getting some. Personally, I have not found the issue to be very polarizing among folks I know though and I think it shouldn't be so polarizing. I suppose you can oppose the current desired scheme, but its not reasonable to all of a sudden be opposed to whats going on now but not have been uppity like three months ago. What Obama and people in favor of his newest scheme desire is really just the status quo with some flash, so why get so hot and bothered when it' been with us for years? Addai, I agree with you. It is interesting to observe the political preferences among vegans. I think there is a general perception that vegans are all hippy democrat types, but that is not the case. One example might be our very own vegan joe. -
Hey man haven't seen you around in a long time, good to see you back. Train hard.

I'd say that after 7 years of altering your body chemistry then it's going to take a time to get back to normal. I think contraceptives are just massive amounts of female hormones, so your body probably has been over producing testosterone for some time to try to normalize itself. I think that's what you are going through now. I have female to male friends who are on T and it took about 6 months for them to completely alter their body chemistry/hormones. Getting a doctor to run some tests on your hormones wouldn't be a bad thing, but I doubt they can do much. Maybe put you back on low levels of female hormones to try to counter the T?

Trying to populate Vegan group in Lubbock, Texas on facebook
CollegeB replied to EcoPunk's topic in General Discussion
A while back I found this vegan gal in lubbock on myspace... -
Does this original question have a broader question? Do you mean to ask if one can still be ethical even if they are not vegan?
-
Heck yeah, vivalasvegans! Miles is one of the jazz greats. I think he got a little wacked out in 80's though.

Boycott Flu Vaccine, especially the Swine Flu Vaccine
CollegeB replied to Couture547's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
I believe I own my body and that nobody has the right to put something into it without my consent. Glad I moved home. I don't this this crap flying here in the lone star state, but texas on the whole is not as independent as it is fabled to be so I could get a surprise. -
Freaking awesome dude! The water looked great, but I don't think i'll be taking a dive like that anytime soon. Thanks for sharing!

It was a good read. I can't say i've enjoyed his other work though.

You are right to point out my comments against Chomsky. I really do dislike him and all the youtube videos, and lectures I've taken in of his have not helped one bit. People like Chomsky who justify using the state or coercion (he says we should do this) to make people defend their "communities" are not anarchists but statists regardless of how they bill themselves. Abolition, instead of reform should be his position. Had the narrator not brought up Chomsky and used him as a base for his arguments I probably would not have even bothered to reply to this post as it's not really anything new to me. I agree with the central premise that war is not about liberty and that groups of influential people (in this case corporations) use government to screw with things (i.e. taxes to fund the slaughtering of thousands and repression of dissent at home).

Good call BW. I didn't think to google this. I would expect the comments to be negative though. This book seems to lack any credit.

I don't think this guy is racist, and he starts off on a good footing as government is a tool of some interests against other interests. But what he gets into saying sounds pretty inconsistent. He uses arguments from a guy like Chomsky who advocates a military draft and violence as a way of making an argument against violence perpetrated by the US government. Statists really can't make a consistent argument against government and it's associated violence just as omnivores really don't have any let to stand on in regards to animal welfare. All in all though, my understanding is that the government is not in favor of freedom nor is any organized interest which wants to use force. Governments don't use the military to fight for liberty, their laws don't protect it, etc. So there's no point in thinking otherwise or trying to argue it.

Anyone ever read this book? I will admit I have a loathing for vegans who go back to meat and think they have found fault with veganism, but I think I will try to read it anyhow. http://www.amazon.com/Vegetarian-Myth-Food-Justice-Sustainability/dp/1604860804
