  1. For the last 3 years I have had hypothyroid symtoms that started to get worse, had multiple test and the test revealed that thyroid was normal but on a low normal range. Dr gave me synthroid .25mcg, did not like at all did not work either, plus I did not want to take synthetic drugs either. Got a new supplement called Raw Thyroid, have been taking for 3 days and I can tell things seeem to be getting slightly better, HOWEVER after reading the ingredients I found out that some of the supplement was from an animal spleen, liver and kidney I think!!! GROSS. What should I do? Natural supplement seem to work better....any comments or suggestions...especially from those with thyroid condition? Thanks in advance
  2. I am planning on running my 1st 1/2 marathon in Oct 2010... I would like some help on diet for training, I don't want to add any weight cause I have about 20lbs i need to lose but I don't want to sacrifice the energy to train either. Should I keep with moderate protein and carbs or should I eat higher carbs? Any runners out there....please let me know your tips and tricks...and of course my protein sources will always be soy/tofu... Thanks again guys!
  3. Thanks for ur reply...I was on google and could not believe the websites that bashed veganism saying that its dangerous and people end up having health problems in the long term and that animal products should be added in frequently...sounds like BS to me but people tell me that I can't lose weight because I'm vegan ..I just think I'm the type that needs to workout out more frenquently and longer than 20 min at a time..
  4. Ok guys, is it possible that eating beans or too much fruit can cause a weightloss stall or gain? I try to eat beans for protein sources and occsional TVP products. I have found that if I eat grains or more than 1 cup of oatmeal a day I get bloated and I find that I can't lose and I start to crave more sugar...I have 2 friend at work telling me that I am wasting my time and I should be lowcarbing(GROSSSSSS) They say that I am more susceptable to thyroid problems and thinning hair eating a vegan diet.....I don;t think that's true what are your opinions out there? I have seen soooo many healthy looking vegans and very muscular ones as well. Should i up my cardio more for losses? I am trying to do workout videos in the AM, and like to do HIT at the gym on treadmill when time presents it self. i have been slacking on the weight training though and Im wondering if that's my problem. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!!! I just think its very unhealthy to eat meat and dairy especially with all the factory farming and people that don't give a crap whether your food is safe to eat or not! Is it better to eat more fat or less fat? I am really confused on this one.
  5. OK Veganprincess.. First of all I am NOT setting up road blocks for myself! I have Celiac disease and wheat and Gluten do not digest for me. So I know that I have to approach my eating plan in a careful manner. I personally do not feel that anything meat or dairy is healthy AT ALL especially in the long run. I am only posting about carbs to try and find out how I should juggle them around to help them work for my body and not agaisnt it. Don't misunderstand me, I value and appreciate your comments and suggestions, but I am trying to work with the knowledge that I have and posting for ideas and suggestions from others that are successful in a vegan lifestyle.. that's all.

  8. Ok so I 've tried low carb, doesn't work because I don't care for meat or dairy, and I've tried low calorie and raw food, but I am always so hungry and when I eat raw food I crave " sweets" alot! I want to be healthy and to do that I need to lose about 25 lbs. I am also working on upping my cardio. I love the vegan lifestyle! I really enjoy eating beans, fruit, nuts ,rice and cream of wheat with splenda! I have found out that gluten and wheat are big no-nos for me in how my body reacts and feels so I try to leave those out! Alot of my co-workers say that I should eat low carb cause its healthier than eating beans, rice and lots of fruit, but reading the post on this website, protein and fat seem to be unhealthy in the long run and I'm in it for the long run, I don't want to end up with cancer or kidney/colon problems. Am I on the right track? Should I limit carbs? If I limit them I seem to be tired and brain fogged, but again people say that is from sugar withdrawl and its a good sign. Thanks in advance guys
  9. Thanks for your help... I know everyone is different in their approach I just have to find the right vegan approach for me!
  10. I am female -sorry I wasn't more clear on the boards, anyway. So is the basis of good health and energy to keep fat intake low? I thought fat was needed more than other nutrients for good health. Am i incorrect on that? I just want to be healthy and to be able to lose my 30lbs , but keep it off and be healthy while doing that. Meat and dairy really me, and I was just trying to deal with it because I thought carbs were my problem. it seems like everything is bad for you now I am going to start back working out,,I love cardio. I just work an hour away from home and I carpool so working out kinda got put on the backburn Again any more suggestions are welcome as well as opinions. You guys are so supportive here-THANKS!
  11. I agree and feel that vegan and even raw vegan is healthier than high pro/high fat. I just never seem to be able to lose weight eating rice, potatoes , beans or bread as avegan unleass I ran about 2 miles a day it seemed like. So I thought I needed to leave the carbs alone. I did experiment with raw and felt great, however I was always hungry, and I got confused because I was finding so much lititure about how eating high fat low carb was better for you than eating any carbs! Sounds crazy.. Thanks for everyones advice. I am going to try and eat way more fruit and really limit the carbs! Is oatmeal ok in moderation, how about silk soy milk/or soy?
  12. I absolutly love eating fruit, beans, and some carbs like rice and sweet potatoes, but I couldn't seem to lose any weight . However in all fairness I haven't really been working out either! But for some reason I crave sugar really bad and if I eat nuts I seem to gain weight. Its almost like I need to food combine or eat 100% raw if I wanna eat fats with daily carb intake. So confused ! BUt i really feel like vegan is soooo much healthier than any kind of meat or dairy whether its low fat or high fat! Anyone have any more suggestions Thanks
  13. I mean real sugar, like gummi bears, hot tamales, spice drops...you know the good stuff(haha) I did eat alot of fruit, but maybe not as much as I thought or should have.. What do you guys suggest?? Isn't low carb unhealthy?? I think so, but I keep finding tons of info stating that its better...why is that? thanks
  14. Most of my life I have been vegetarian/vegan, even tried 100% raw for a month. I normally feel really good on a vegan diet, however I always craved sugar alot!!! So I would give into the craving and get all those highs and lows and would then end up eating junkfood . 5 days ago I started a low carb diet(yuck,,I know ....right?) In one way I got off sugar which is good, but I 'm tired and still have no energy and really wonder how this could be healthy..My reason for this post is I would like to know if any of you have experience this before and if so how did you revamp yourself and get back on track being a vegan and be successful at it? Meat and dairy are so not my thing I am literally chocking it down..more fat than protein, but I am desparate to lose 30lbs, ut i also want to be healthy!! I have also come across articles stating how wheat is disease causing and other starches, and that low carb is healthy and helps better? How is that or is it just media BS!! Please someone let me know your thoughts and opinions!!
