  1. Well my mom is now helping me out. For awhile there i think she thought i was nuts.

Big, thanks for the concerns. I did a good deal of research about the raw diet and am eating lots of fruitarian type stuff(nuts and seeds, not your type of fruitarian diet which i'd love to do some day). I do eat kale and spinach as well but mostly bananas, apples, oranges, pineapple, avocado, bell peppers, cucumbers, watermelon, strawberries, blueberries and mango. I'm going to try out sprouts and see if i like them.

If all of this fails(which i don't think it will) i will at least be on a totally unprocessed foods diet probably for the rest of my life. I've just gotten really sick and tired of processed crap and want a simpler diet. I will at least try the raw thing for the whole summer and see where it goes after that!

    Congrats...

  3. it is about where you draw the line.

When you cut food into pieces this is a process (food is processed). But although the integrity of e.g. the fruit is destroyed and the inside is exposed to oxidation, cutting does little harm. But the smaller the pieces you cut the faster the decay of the food is due to the greater surface and the number of destroyed cells. Milling or grinding food (I am sure you agree) means processing.

Everyone has to find the degree of processing she/he is comfortable with.

But if you want to define the term processing – it starts when you cut the apple into two pieces.

Well said Flanders....it's all personal choice!

For me I've got a perfectly good juicer/smoothie maker...it's called my mouth, I put one fruit in at a time which means less stress on my digestive system, theres no cutting, no oxidation issue, no loss of nutrients caused by the speed of the blade, no loss of fiber, etc.

But that's just my opinion based on what I want from my lifestyle.

If people wanna juice then go for it.....

  4. Wuzz up....

I think your gonna struggle period because judging by your pics you've been abusing yourself real good and when you try to go raw all of that is going to come back to haunt you and in situations like that most people turn to eating for comfort.....hence the big grocery bills!!!

I personally think you should be real careful about going raw until you really know what your getting into and what you should expect, do a whole bunch of research from reliable sources....too many people go raw without really thinking about it and then bail out because it got too uncomfortable or they weren't that commited in the first place.

Where your at now I don't think your gonna be able to avoid the big grocery bills and I really think you should think long a hard about how far you wanna go with it because the initial period of going raw is really no joke.

    All the best

  5. I'm not a bro but a sis!!

The reason I asked was because it was stated on Bigwii's site that the cookies and treats made by raw foodists was junk food. They are made from raw foods so I was wondering if he considered smoothies to be junk food. It was just a little confused as to what constituted raw junk food.

Think about it this way....all cooked food is made from raw foods too!!!

In my opinion raw junk food is any raw food that is altered, processed, refined, dehydrated...yadayadayada.....

It's all down to you how far/natural you want to go, 95% of all the people that go raw are doing it all wrong, doing it the right way takes too much dedication and is too frightening for people so if having smoothies, raw cookies, raw ice cream is something that helps you get through the day then go for it, experiment see how things make you feel and have fun.

  6. Do you use smoothies made with fruit and greens? If not, why not and do you consider them to be raw junk food?

It really doesn't matter what I do or think because I'm not you, everybody has different needs at different times, knowing what I do isn't going to teach you about yourself....try it for yourself and see if it works for you at this moment in time.

    Good luck....

  7. Many thanks for the suggestions and my apologies for the technical faux pas. I'm looking for a few good reliable sources so that I don't spend much time sifting search engine results. This site is certainly one!

Not sure what your really looking for but this is probably the best vegan fitness site around in terms of balance, you have people of all abilities, people are friendly and supportive and willing to share.

There really isn't that many good vegan fitness forums out there to start with.

  8. It just made the "news" so I thought I'd share it....Hey Big, it's an opportunity to write a response to the article to get more info out there and maybe they'd publish your reply? I know that happens quite a bit.

Just a possible opportunity if interested. I've been promoting a lot of raw stuf and fruit stuff lately in talks with people

That's a thought...yeah those guys didn't sound like longterm Fruitarians or very dedicated
  9. I could never eat that many avocados... My body would never forgive me!!!

    Why would you need to?

All you need to do is eat when truly hungry and stop when satisfied, anything else is over eating.

For the last 3 days I've been getting by on 157 cals, plus getting through my workouts and walks, etc.

You'd be surprised how much hunger is actually mental.....

  10. Yeah I see your point. But does that work for Pinto beans( The Mexican Bean) There really hard and almost unedible.

But I guess I could call myself a half-raw, Lazy Man's Pre-Cooked diet. I do love to cook food like Chow Mein but cooking is such aa strain. So I was working on a diet of mainly Organic Soymilk( Cold straight out of the fridge) Organic Raw Tofu( Tastes pretty good raw just needs salt sometimes ) And Granola Bars for lunch( It has roasted peanuts but I eat it mainly for the taste.

So yeah I'm not so much a raw dieter as I am Lazy

Well most people go raw for health reasons....

The whole process of going raw is a hard one and is not to be messed with, because of the detoxification process..

Like I say do a bunch of research.
