Sweet - love the rubber guard.

Hey Tommy, welcome. Noticed ya over in the martial arts topics. Your diet plan looks pretty good. Vega smoothies are rad. Good luck with the tourneys! (we need a jits smiley!)
-
Yeah, it looks technically legal by your definition, assuming that's the definition used by the sanctioning body of course, but for a ref to see that in real time is nearly impossible. Refs can't change their call once they make it - there are no instant replays in mma! ***Spoiler - look away now!*** Back to WEC 39 - anyone watch it or what? All I can say is Jose Aldo... kid's got talent. Mike Brown was mighty impressive too.
-
Anyone see WEC 39 yet?! I just finished watching it. Was pretty good... won't spoil it yet... Hey Tommy-jitsu, interesting - I never looked into that knee that much. There'll be a rematch anyhow.

Click here to support the bill! From an email newsletter today: IFAW has just returned from Parliament Hill where the Honourable Senator Mac Harb announced a bill that could END Canada's commercial seal hunt. That's right, for the first time in Canadian history, a politician is proposing a law to end the suffering of baby seals. No half-measures, no excuses. This is our chance to end the hunt forever. Senator Harb has shown incredible leadership and courage by speaking out on behalf of the majority of Canadians on this issue. But he cannot win this fight on his own. You and I must act quickly to ensure this bill is passed into law. Senator Harb has asked every caring Canadian to send emails and cards expressing support for an immediate end to Canada's commercial seal hunt. He wants to fill his office from floor to ceiling with messages of support for the "Harb Seal Bill" and I've promised IFAW supporters will stand by him every step of the way. Our goal is to collect over 200,000 emails, action cards and letters in the next few weeks (one message for every seal that will be killed in this year's slaughter ) so I'm counting on you to act right now. Please click here to send an email to the Canadian Senate urging swift passage of this landmark legislation. It only takes a moment to add your name, and Senator Harb says every email is critical at this historic moment. This is our chance to ensure no more seals are skinned alive or shot and left to suffer. Please don't delay. Let's flood the Senate's inboxes with messages. Let's show them Canadians caredeeply about this issue and are tired of being ignored by their government. Senator Harb has opened the door. The time to act is now. The world is watching. Let's show them what we can do, Olivier Bonnet Director, IFAW Canada PS: Remember ... IFAW was founded in Canada 40 years ago, to stop this slaughter. IFAW SUPPORTERS LIKE YOU fought for and won the first rules to reduce the killing in 1971. We secured the U.S. import ban of seal products in 1972. We won an EU ban on the trade in whitecoats in 1983. And now, with your help, this historic legislation to end Canada's commercial seal hunt once and for all will get passed into law.

This is criminal!

Yeah, I'm gonna download it on Monday. Wish I could watch it live. The main event has the makings of a real battle. Someone's getting ko'd I think. Which one? Flip a coin. Brown's more technical, smarter, has better wrestling but Garcia's got huge heart and huge power for a 145er. I won't even be able to watch it until thursday night, because of training, school, more training... The rest of the card should be exciting too. WEC usually delivers across the board. WEC is worth its own thread on here for sure.

Ya refined sugar is filtered through charred bones I believe. And I had to give up tennis when I went vegan. Probably for the best anyway.

I guess Joe was tough enough to withstand Sanchez's onslaught. Joe's game is too simplistic to win a decision against a guy like Sanchez. That's what'll be different when (if) he faces Kenflo. I think he'll give Florian a good fight, but Florian's got so many sharp tools in his box. I don't see Diego beating him. 155 seems to be the right place for Sanchez tho. I can't imagine him doing much at 170 anymore - they're all monsters in that class now.

I keep hearing that car tires have animal byproducts in them. Don't know any specifics and googling didn't yield much. Also, most wine and beer is not vegan. Eggs and isinglass, which comes from the swim bladders of sturgeons, are very often used as fining agents. Hear is a list of vegan beers.

Demian Maia's triangle was the highlight of the show for me. ok it was pretty good watching KOscheck get KOd too.
-
Oh yeah! That could be good... Manhoef is always exciting on his feet, can't say much for his usual choice of shorts, or that walk-in dance he does, but he has thunder in those hands. If he ends up on his back, it's a bit like watching a fawn trying to stand up for the first time. That would be great for Strikeforce and Lawler would be a perfect opponent/sacrificial lamb. Sweet!

Welcome from a fellow martial artist! Oh yeah, and don't be scared!

Old clip Tasha on TV (MMA/Shootboxing) 1998
Trev replied to Tasha's topic in General Fitness/Other Sports
Saw ya! Good clip, thanks Tasha! Too bad you didn't get to fight that night. Was your fight going to be kickboxing or shoot boxing? The announcers were funny. As soon as the fight went to the ground, they didn't know what they were looking at. -
Yeah, Pazios, I'm kinda stoked about the Diaz-Shamrock fight too - hopefully Nick uses some of his jits skills and doesn't just stay on his feet. Although, Shamrock will almost for sure shoot and put him on his back. Either way, Diaz's chin will hold up better than his intstructor's did. I bet KJ Noons' managers (his dad?) will get a better deal for him before they sign. I wanted to see the Nick Diaz rematch with him, but I'll happily settle for his destruction at the hands of Josh Thomson. That'll be a kickboxing clinic. I could also get into a Melendez-Gurgel clash. Kimbo? Whatever. I hope they don't bank too much on that guy. Funny that Bas dropped him and hasn't spoken to him since he got knocked out by Petruzelli's jab.

Mac Danzig vs. Josh Neer tonight on SpikeTV, UFC Fight Night
Trev replied to damdaman's topic in General Fitness/Other Sports
Yeah, I hated watching that too. Neer is a prick. Martial arts is supposed to be above that stuff. -
A wrap up of the week's Strikeforce happenings on Sherdog. Looks like they might be able to pick up all the pieces of Elite XC and make something good out of it all.

Jumping rope is a great cardio exercise and good for developing rhythm and coordination - that's why boxers, thai boxers and many other fighters do it. I often jump rope for 10 minutes to warm up before sparring or training. I don't think it's necessarily hard on the knees. That depends on the surface. If anything, your feet and ankles will feel it first. Expect some pain while they get stronger. If you get persistent knee pain, then stop. If I can add one thing - try to jump rope barefoot - this will build the foot muscles, which will help everything else above them (ankles, knees, back etc). Anyways, happy training!

If the Quebec Athletic Commission enforces their rules, they will be making a huge mistake. It looks as though their knockdown rule is just for knockdowns by strikes, which just adds a bunch of complexity to the ref's job as he now has to decide what actually knocked the fighter down. What if it's a combination of strikes and a takedown? Let's just hope the UFC can talk them out of it, or wave a bunch of $$ in their faces. Something, because I don't wanna see an elbowless, kneeless Anderson Silva.

Just saw this thread too... I used to race BMX back in the 80s as well, all over Ontario and sometimes NY state (Don't remember the tracks, but I was in the EBA and one race was the Can-Am indoor something... don't remember and the trophies are long gone sadly. I switched to mountain biking for years, then observed trials for 5 years, which was fun, but wrecked my back. I currently have a BMX, just a cheap DK with sort of a street set-up but I can't ride it too much because of my back. I stick to doing lower impact stuff like manuals and small jumps. Taj Mihelich is a vegan, not sure about any other pro-bmxers off hand.

Veginator, it sounds like you might have a separated rib - where the rib tears away from cartilage. I've had broken ribs, which prevented me from doing any exercise and took about 3 months to heal. Everything I did was excruciating. I've had a slightly separated rib once, and right now I believe I have a badly bruised rib from body conditioning that went a bit wrong at my kickboxing gym a couple of days ago (shin in ribs instead of abs). I'm in a lot of pain, but nothing seems to be moving around in there like it shouldn't, so I think it's bruising. Hurts like hell though and it's bringing back memories of my broken ribs. There's not much you can do, except take ibuprofen (I prefer to just live with the pain) and try not to stretch or contort your ribcage. Get rest, take it easy. Bruised ribs should heal within 4 to 6 weeks, and you can probably find some exercises that don't hurt them. If your ribs are separated a bit, you have to move around a lot less, and they will take longer to heal. You should probably go to a doctor and get x-rays. Rib injuries are really painful. I'm onto my 3rd one in 4 years. The most frustrating thing is I'm missing kickboxing, BJJ practice and the rest of my training for a bit. Oh yeah, while you're healing, be extra aware of how you modify your body movement to avoid pain. When my broken ribs were largely healed after 3 months, I had a very weak core and a bunch of back problems! Good luck with your healing!

No I won't make it over there, too busy right now. I'm not worried about the deal - my next bit of work will be pretty big. The avatar was shot by Suz at the White Bay Graffiti Park in Balmain, Sydney, Australia about a month ago. Obviously the real photo looks much better, but I thought it would make a good avatar. Glad you like it! Gerry finished my right arm since you saw it last - it's half-sleeved now with clouds and cherry blossoms.
-
Rad! I got a whole other arm for him to get busy on! I wonder if he'd do it for 13 bucks... Gerry's a super-nice dude and a great artist. Tattoo zoo is a tight shop and you can get vegan rice-crust pizza next door to it (there are lots of other vegan post-op food options in Victoria within easy walking distance of the shop). Thanks for posting this, Tasha!
-
Oh yeah - everything's cool! I'm just getting back on here - I've just been very busy with other pursuits over the last year - changing careers, going back to school, training in martial arts, traveling... thanks for noticing my absence! I've neglected my own site a bit too, but that's changing now...
-
Wow, the Globe and Mail... that is unlikely! I know you found the link to it on another, very unlikely site, but I stopped reading the Globe because of its blatant anti-vegan slant. That paper once published a multi-page article extolling the virtues of the veal industry, and berating its detractors (the vegans!). You kinda' got a double-unlikely here, CollegeB.
