  1. Wow..you're friendly! I dont see how you can come to the conclusion that "soy is harmless" when the experts still can't agree. When someone shows me a photo of themselves super ripped and taking soy protein, then I'll be convinced. Maybe you should explain how the "awesome search function" works instead of getting all high and mighty about it! I only joined this forum this year, whereas you have been using it for several years now..so come on, share your expeert experience and stop criticising!
  2. I just saw the article had another page! hahaha Well they seem to have drawn the same conclusions as I have: Like I said, until I started taking soy protein isolate, I didn't experience a problem with soy..afterall, irregular periods and acne COULD be put down to something else. However, it appears that now, through excessive soy consumption, I have created an allergy to soy that I didn't have before. As I've always enjoyed soy this is a bit of a bummer because it makes eating high protein meals a hell of a lot more difficult, not to mention expensive! In conclusion, I have to say, eating soy is a personal decision, but don't go overboard or you may regret it!!
  3. It's a very interesting article. Though the part which interests me still seems to be a bit hazy: It goes into more detail about the dosage required to produce negative effects. However, to be honest I didn't personally experience any negative effects of soy comsumption until I started taking soy protein isolate. What the article doesn't go into specifically is fat distribution, which is my concern. It talks about overall fat levels but not female pattern fat distribution. This article may indeed quell the concerns of many, but as I stated previously, for every well documented article praising soy, there is an equally valid article damning it. All i can do in such a situation is use my common sense and listen to my body and see how it reacts to various substances. Interestingly, I've spent the last 15 years eating A LOT of soy, and have only had about 2 menstruations a year. Since I stopped eating soy, I've lost belly fat (although my overall fat levels are the same) and now have regular periods. Logically, for me, its a strong indicator that soy was seriously messing with my hormones. Also the fact that I always had teenage type acne until I cut out the soy, could perhaps be another indicator of a hormonal imbalance (though of course it could be just a symptom of allergy). I know that my own one individual case study isn't of any real importance in the grand scale of things, and I would never tell anyone not to eat soy..that's a personal decision. I just wondered anyone else out there has had any negative side effects from eating a lot of soy products, or indeed if any women had noticed changes in their menstrual cycles etc when consuming more soy?¿?¿?¿?¿
  4. I don't think you are getting the point I'm trying to make. Soy very obviously has estrogenic properties. I know that men are also less aggressive etc etc with lower levels of testosterone but as a bodybuilders i want to stimulate testosterone production, not limit it! So soy sucks! Also, I'm not talking about using soy to lose huge quantities of fat, I fully believe that's possible...but I have severe doubts about whether its possible to get truly "ripped" on soy. I suppose it all depends on how seriously you take the sport. Also, on a more personal note, soy makes me feel bloated and gives me spots like an adolescent. Yep, its great to eat and easy to use and I'm sure a lot of you guys tolerate it better than I do..but then again i have been eating as my main protein for about 25 years, and for me, the longer i ate it, the more sensitive i became..till now, just looking at it makes me break out in hives and start farting! LOL I'll stick to my nuts, pulses and hemp protein thanks. For every positive article you show me about soy, you know full well that there is an article out there highlighting the dangers of soy. That alone should be enought to cause you to treat soy cautiously, but given its proven effect on estrogen production, I dont think anyone who is dedicated to bodybuilding would consider having more than a minimum amount of soy in their diet, if any.
  5. Estrogenic compounds in food have long been indicated in causing "stubborn" fat deposits. Particuarly femenized fat deposits, those on the thighs and tummy for women, and "breasts" for for men. Soy isoflavanoes contain large amounts of estrogenic compounds known as xenoestrogens. I have seen this discussed many times on various websites, and recently read about it again in 2 books :"the stubborn fat solution" By David Grisaffi and "The Warrior Diet" by some guy with a really wierd name =) I find it worrying, especially as in many tests vegan men have far lower levels of testosterone than meat eaters. Maybe soy is the culprit! And maybe soy consumption would explain why so many otherwise slim vegan women seem to have these localized "pockets" of fat on their tummy thighs or hips. Anyway, as a body builder, I've read SO much negative stuff about soy that this is really the straw that breaks the camels back, so to say and I'm going to give it a miss completely! What do you guys think?
  6. How much is posting to europe? Also, I'm a size 10 in the UK or 38 in Spain..what is this in american sizes???..I'd want them to be skin tight
  7. These can all be symptoms of stress...write a list before you go back to the doctor so you don't forget anything
  8. I don't know whether changing your doctor will do any good. I asked about steralization once, many years ago now, but the same rule applied. However, my doctor said that it could be done with a psychiatrists note...so basically you need to convince a shrink that you know what you are doing. This is in the UK of course, where i would have been referred to a shrink for free if i had decided to go along with it. However, I know things work a bit differently where you live. Also, on further investigation, I dont think female steralization is really a good idea. your ovaries produce many hormones, which as an athlete, help you stay flexible. There are also many other benefits which may be worth your while checking out. Personally, like many other women who do a lot of sport, I rarely have any periods..infact, once my BF gets under 12% they stop completely--which is fine by me because quite frankly they are a huge pain! As regards loss of libido, be thankful at the moment! If you dont have a partner its def the best way to be..afterall there's nothing worse thn constantly thinking about sex! If you do find someone, I would strongly recommend taking a "shot" of damiana every day. I also read that damiana helped stabalize female hormones, so it may be worth your while checking it out. Here's a link to start you off : http://www.rain-tree.com/damiana.htm If that fails, well try adding ginseng into the equation...Or L. arginine, which has been poved to help treat loss of libido (get that pea proten out!!) But above everything else..you MUST go back and see your doctor!
  9. You MUST go back and see your doctor!
  10. I wouldn't touch any hormonal shit like the pill! When I took it it gave me blinding migranes. so the doctor changed it to try another one. which gave me permanent nausea and spotting..so I tried a low hormonal type pill which made my teeth start to fall out! Serioiualy..check out the info, its one of the rarer side effects! Anything which does that to my body can't be a good idea...so I stopped taking it. I was only taking it anyway to see if my tits got any bigger..but sadly, to no avail! LOL
  11. Here are the links if anyone wants to download the books : http://rapidshare.com/files/278509135/doggcrapp.7z http://rapidshare.com/files/278509136/fst_7.7z
  12. And I suppose you guys have seen this one..its got scenes from the film "earthlings" in the video. Its also a pretty cool song.
  13. Lol Ruz!! Actually soy makes me fart too sometimes. Not all the time, mind you. It's usually mock meats that do it. It used to be really bad when I first started eating soy products but now I seem to be okay. Well I'm the opposite..I was OK to begin with and then kind of built up a sensitivity. I can do tofu and moderate amounts of other soy products, but isolated soy protein definitely doesn't agree with me.
  14. Well I love it! At first I did a creatine load and it left me feeling like crap..stomach cramps.."loose stools" LOL But now just taking 5g a day with my protein drink is fine..and it is cheap and gives great results. Its also the most widely studied sports supplement out there and has been proved to be safe and healthy time and time again.
  15. Yep..I've come to realise that my legs are exactly the same. They need to be worked to the max to really grow, with drop sets, pump sets, negatives etc. But just once...I don't need to do it time and time again. I used to work several exercises to the max using these techniques and hurt my legs so much that I couldn't train again in 7-9 days. Now I find that if I do this on just one exercise, intensely, that although my legs kill for 2 days, I'm ok to train again in 3-4 days About biceps though..well I hardly train mine nowadays..they are getting out of proportion with the rest of my body and I prefer correct proportions over anything else. I've only ever really done DB curls and reverse preecher curls and they've always grown fairly easily. My problem is my calves..I HATE the bastards! They stubbornly refuse to grow HOWEVER much I punish them!! However, I've now decided that I'm just going to spend the next few months stretching my calves for at least 15 min a day. I've always had short achilles tendons and I'm starting to think that my short, tight tendons are limiting the muscle growth. Everytime I work them, my tendons hurt so much that I have to take t least 2 weeks off. It's being going on for a while now, so now I'm just working them indirectly through other leg exercises, and stretching like a nutter. DC and FST-7 have made me feel whole lot differently about stretching , and I really believe it is a crucial part of muscle growth.
  16. Wow that looks cool! It looks different to what you were doing when you first started DC training. I personally couldn't recover quickly enough from that amount of drop series..you must have the resistance of a donkey!! The thing i always find doesn't work for me in ANY training plan, is the amount of weight they recommend you to lift. For example, in DC and UD2, you're supposed to be able to lift roughly 80% of your one rep max for 12-15 reps. Well that's impossible for me! My one rep max for bicep curls for example is probably about 16-18k (not sure really its been a while since i tested it). However, if someone asks me to do 12-15 reps, and more than once, or as in FST 7, seven series of 8-15 reps with only 30 seconds rest, I'll only be able to use 12, or maybe 10 kilos, which isn't anywhere near 80% of my one rep max. My 1 rep max for deadlifts is 2 plates a side, but if i have to do so many reps i wouldn't use more than 10k a side. I don't know if you find the same to be true. I dont really see it as a problem, because I keep making gains, its more of a personal observation and i wonderd if I'm unique in this or if everyone finds it impossible to do 12 reps at 80% of their one rep max .
  17. uff! Soy makes me fart like a nutter! hahahha..am I the only one who gets these side effects?¿ From everything i've read the most important thing about soy is to check that its not GM modified and also make sure that its cooked, or fermented.
  18. Hey there! Well when you are reading the stuff I sent you you'll see a link to an indenendant study about supplements. It turns out that at best we only absorb about 2% of the supplements we take..so basically i think you are wasting your money. I'll stick with my creatine and that's about it..i've never seen any real results with anything else...well unless you class having fluorescente pee as a "real" result
  19. Dude..my glutes are my best feature Do you know what a good advertisment for veganism I'd be walking around in those shorts? LOL
  20. Yeah..it would be cool if you lived here too! I'd love to train with someone who trains like me but sadly there is no-one. Everyone I know who trains falls into 2 categories. Those who don't try hard enough..so i get angry when I train with them and end up shouting at them, and those who are so obsessed that they take hormones..and i can't train with them because they can work at a level which would put me in hospital for a few weeks! Actually FST-7 training almost screams out for a training partner, cause it is hard to tense your muscles, guzzle water and time your 30 seconds rests, within 30 seconds (You'll see what I mean if you try it). DC training also, would def be better with a training partner cause if you do static holds and slow negatives its hard to rack the weight alone! Anyway, I'll get the stuff i have about DC training off to you (tomorrow now its a bit late at the mo)..there is also a good official DC forum out there you should check out. I'll send you FST7 too which is the latest craze in the UK. It's very good for stubborn muscles On the DC forum quite a few people are combining the two training methods, which seems the most logical to me. I think that if your not doing roids, the amount of sets recommended in FST-7 would lead to overtraining. I do warmup sets and the one, all out, double rest paused set, followed by static contractions as recommended in DC. Then I do the 7 "pump" sets complete with muscle contractions and stretching recommended in FST7, and finish it all off by a few minutes of extreme DC style stretching. It is working brill for me and I'm more than happy with the results.
