  1. Wow, I've never experienced that! Although when I eat peanut butter... actually, never mind. But I will say that green smoothies and salads are extremely healthy. Maybe you could wipe off the sweat after your work out if you're concerned about the smell or lessen the amount (but not too much!) of vegetables.
  2. Words of encouragement: Go for it. But it's hard to give you suggestions without more information.
  3. Eat when you're hungry, stop when you're full. Simple as that. If you're hungry after dinner, eat. But make sure you're not just driven by boredom or stress. Check and see if you actually feel it in your stomach, not just in your head, because if the hunger is in your head alone, you're not really hungry. True hunger is felt in your stomach.
  4. Are you kidding? Back when I was in school I got high quality essays for $5 a page if they were custom or much less if they were stock. But don't tell anyone!
  5. So you guys (Andrea and Johan) are saying that pasta is neither unhealthy nor healthy (meaning few nutritional benefits, but won't harm you either), assuming you don't eat an excessive amount? Just want to make sure I'm clear.

American BB is so boring. I'm not watching the UK one this year like I did the last couple, not out of intention (as I watched the first few) but just because I haven't found myself tuning in.
  7. My biology teacher in high school was one of those paleolithic diet idiot. When she heard I was vegan she walked up to me and said "you can't be vegan, humans can't live without fish. You can live about two years without long chain n-3 fatty acids", everyone in class heard and waited for my reply which simply was "I've been vegetarian for 4 years", she then said "well maybe you're special". I can't believe she was allowed to teach. I had a couple of biology teachers like that. I wasn't a vegan or vegetarian at the time and I still saw problem with their statements. One teacher had us feel our teeth at the beginning of class. Yes, he actually had us FEEL our TEETH. As if we didn't know two of our teeth were pointed. Goodness. Also, a bird got caught in some (human placed) netting and he said not to save him because we have to let "nature take its course." Unbelievable. Another biology teacher talked about "anthropomorphizing." I said that my problem with that concept (attributing human characteristics to non-human animals) is that most of the things we consider to be human characteristics aren't really. It was during a discussion about vegetarianism and I found myself defending it, not intentionally as I was an omnivore at the time, but because everything said against it was so obviously ridiculous and illogical that I just had to speak up.
  8. I hope every bullfighter gets killed. I want to see those bulls fling 'em right off then stomp on them. Those humans completely deserve what they got. It's ing. Can you believe this is really the 21st century? It seems like we would stop mistreating animals so much in our society before having the technology to send words halfway around the world instantly, but I guess it's funny how consciousness and technology evolve.
  9. If I wanted to be insulted for my beliefs, I'd visit my parents.
  10. She went vegetarian for 30 days once and acted like it was a huge sacrifice. When it comes to animal rights, Oprah is swimming in hypocrisy.
  11. I've sat on leather couches, so I sure hope not. Just make sure you get the imitation if you want to buy one.
  12. For me the weight gain part would be a plus, though I wouldn't want to damage my health in the process. Thanks for all of the answers, guys! I'm surprised at how divided it is.
  13. I saw the nasty exchange you had a few posts down. Since you value true education, I will tell you that anecdotal stories are considered to be weak evidence, if considered to be evidence at all. If you want to improve further on being truly educated you can do a lot by reading up on why anecdotal stories are not valued as evidence. Nice user name. Is it a metaphor for where you are in your life right now?

I tend to go into them with the mindset of, "I'm about to see a fictional program, edited out of real unscripted footage."

I haven't seen the NY version. I agree about the trainwreck factor, however, can anyone honestly say their life wouldn't look like a trainwreck if edited down to the most interesting/entertaining moments?
  16. And you know what's even better than one person's personal experience? The aggregate experiences of many, many people, effectively controlled and measured. It's called scientific experimentation, and it's where the data supporting soy comes from. The experience of a single person, or even of a few people, is not enough to accurately extrapolate to a larger group. This is true.
  17. I believe you're confusing education with schooling. A common error in the 21st century. I actually much prefer educated people, so I seek out those who avoid school. One sign of a non educated person is someone who resorts to calling comments that he or she does not agree with stupid without explaining why.
  18. This is fucking stupid. I lawld. This is fucking rude. I rolled my eyes.
  19. That's right. I am tired of the same old conversations with omnivores, over and over and over. It never changes any minds anyway. So from now on I'm not going to even bother. From now on, being a vegan totally sucks! Omnivore: "Gee, I'd offer you some of this delicious milk chocolate bar, but it's not vegan. It sure must suck to have such limited options." Old me: "That's alright, there are plenty of vegan chocolate bars. I have one at home I'm looking forward to, and I like that I can get the same taste in a much healthier and ethical way." New me: "You're right, there's nothing for me to eat, ever. All the good foods have animal products in them. Being a vegan sucks." Me: "Hey, sorry, I won't be able to make it in to work today. I have a cold." Omnivore: "Heh, a cold? Geez, vegans are always getting sick." Old me: "Well, actually, I rarely get sick, and I don't think my cold has anything to do with my diet." New me: "You're right, I hate getting sick so much. Being a vegan sucks." Omnivore: "So, what DO you eat?" Old me: "There are a lot of things vegans can eat. Basically anything omnivores can eat, there's a vegan version of that, and then some." New me: "Pretty much nothing. I eat mostly the same things over and over. Being a vegan really sucks." Omnivore: "Wow, I really admire your commitment to being a vegan. It must be really hard to keep up!" Old me: "Thank you, but you'd be surprised how easy it is. I eat a wide variety of great tasting food. Now it's a habit... I don't even think about it anymore." New me: "Thank you, it is really, really, really hard." I'm tired of trying to defend myself. I'm happy with my lifestyle choices and that's all that matters. I don't need to prove myself to every omnivore who makes some obscene comment. After all, they don't feel the need to defend their lifestyle to me. They don't explain every time they eat a non-vegan food, "Look, I know you probably disagree with my eating of cheese, and I know that I'm supporting the abuse of cows when I eat this, but it's just, I feel scared that people will judge me if I become a vegan and that I won't have as many choices. It's easier for me to just not think about it." So why should I? From now on, my answer is, you're right. I'm not going to defend myself, veganism sucks, vegans are stupid, I'm an idiot for going this route, yada yada yada, end of story.
  20. I don't think that just because someone doesn't have degree in nutrition (in fact, it's better if they don't, because if they do they're probably just repeating false information they were taught in college) doesn't mean it's not worth looking at what he or she has to say. Dr. Fuhrman says things that are very contrary to the most common opinion among doctors (that diet has no effect) and I feel much better when eating the high nutrient foods he recommends. Sometimes the best answer to your question ("How does this person know what they claim to know?") is through personal experience. Someone who has gone down the junk food route and experienced disease and sickness, then watched it all fade away by eating a healthier diet and living a generally healthier lifestyle.

Hm, yes. But I like how all of the families are so open about their lives. How many couples like Jo and Slade would let cameras film their break up? How many families would let cameras film the drama resulting from the son's fist fight or (unfair, in my opinion) jailing? How many women would let cameras film their wild nights out, including drinking and raunchy dancing? You know it's special. People always criticize reality stars for "getting famous without doing anything" but personally I think it would be much easier to act out a script then let cameras film your real everyday private moments.

I saw the first season of that but they haven't released season 2 on DVD, and I'm always too busy to see shows when they actually air.
