  1. Dont get me wrong people, I love the heat, but only WITHOUT any smog or humidity, AND if I have access to a breathtaking beach and white sands (not Lake Ontario!). heat plus smog plus humidity plus lake ontario as the only escape = one irritable and cranky compassionategirl. Give me cancun on the other hand and I am in heaven.
  2. What the pound did is beyond unethical, and I would really like the name of that pound because they sure as hell will be getting an earful from me, and possibly further recourse if there is any. SO if you wouldnt mind posting that info, I'd appreciate it. Here is another one: a family who had a perfectly happy healthy golden retriever, who was still young and full of life, insisted that he be euthanized because they couldnt take him with them to their new condo (which didnt allow pets). The vet pleaded with this asswipes to surrender him for adoption, at least, but they insisted that if they couldnt keep him, then the next best thing was euthanasia. I think any vet that would agree to euthanize a perfectly happy, young healthy animal is in breach of some serious ethics. And talk about a selfish, sick family. Gaawwwwd do people ever suck If I had any say, individuals like this would be BANNED FOR LIFE from ever ever ever having the privilege of the companionship of animal ever again. Seriously. My ban against animal guardianship for life would not be limited to cases of actual direct abuse or cruelty. The people in Vegangirl2006's story - banned for life (except the guy that really has the allergies). The people in my story - banned for life. And the people that meet most of the descriptions in the rescue groups answering machine - banned for life. Vets like the one in my story, or those that perform declawing and other types of ghastly procedures - licenses revoked. ZERO tolerance is what I am getting at. Why? Because animals have zero choice and zero voice. They depend on us to defend them and are completely at the mercy of idiotic, selfish, irresponsible asswipes. If I had the power to do so, I would impose/unleash (whatever you want to call it) onto the world a fundamental rethinking of animals and their place in the world.
  3. I think daywalker once said that there is no such thing as good cholesteral, and so there is no such thing as "too low cholesteral." You dont need any cholesteral. Cholsteral is bad. Zero cholesteral is ideal. Somebody correct me if I am wrong here. Alex, did I misunderstand you? As far as poopooing B12 supplementation, I am by no means poopooing anything. I wanted to know if taking nutrtional yeast daily (which has loadsa B12) and drinking soy milk fortified with B12 is sufficient supplementation. Can somebody address this question? I mean, if carnivores get enough B12 from eating animals, then cant we vegans get enough from nutritional yeast and fortified soy milk? Or do you need, IN ADDITION to that, further B12 supplementation in the forms suggested by some of you above? For the record, I have had my B12 levels checked and I have never been short. And I have never supplemented B12, other than the yeast and soymilk, and whatever B12 is in a multivitamin. (only exception is a b12 shot I had like 3 years ago, which was before I was vegan). Thanks in advanced for sharing your thoughts on this.
  4. I have this baking in the oven right now. Mmmmmmm,.................
  5. Rescue Group Answering Machine - Author unknown "Hello: You have reached 123-4567, Tender Hearts Animal Rescue. Due to the high volume of calls we have been receiving, please listen closely to the following options and choose the one that best describes you or your situation": Press 1 if you want free veterinary advice. Press 2 if you know we are not actually trained veterinarians, but want to save money and have us give you free, untrained medical advice anyway. Press 3 if you have a 10-year-old dog or cat and your 15-year-old son/daughter?, wife/husband? has suddenly become allergic and you need to find the dog a new home right away. Press 4 if you have dogs or cats, just had a baby and want to get rid of your dogs/ cats because you are the only person in the world to have a baby and dogs or cat at the same time! Press 5 if your dog or cat is sick and needs to see a vet, but you need the money because you are going on vacation soon. Press 6 if you just got a brand new puppy or kitten and your old dog or cat is having problems adjusting so you want to get rid of the old one right away. Press 7 if your little puppy or kitten has grown up and is no longer cute and small. Press 8 if you are an elderly person and want to adopt a "cute puppy or kitten who is not active and is going to outlive you" Press 9 if your relative has suddenly died and you can't care for their elderly dog or cat - not even temporarily while YOU try to find him or her a good home, because it will cramp your lifestyle. Press 10 if you are moving today and need to immediately place your 150-pound, 8-year-old dog. Press 11 if you want an unpaid volunteer to come to your home today and pick up the dog or cat you no longer want. Press 12 if you have been feeding and caring for a "stray" for the last three years, are moving and suddenly determine it's not your dog or cat. Press 13 to leave us an anonymous garbled message, letting us know you have left a dog/cat outside in our yard in the middle of January, (which is in fact, better than just leaving the dog/cat without a message). Press 14 if you are going to get angry because we are not able to take your dog or cat that you have had for fifteen years, because we have run out of room, (not to mention that it is not our responsibility!). Press 15 if you are going to threaten to take your ten year old dog or cat to be euthanized because we can't take them in. Press 16 if you would like one of our "perfectly trained, housebroken, kid-friendly, cat-friendly, purebred tiny dogs who do not shed", that we have an abundance of!! Press 17 if you want us to take your dog that has a slight aggression problem, i.e. has only bitten a few people and killed your neighbor's cat. Press 18 if you have already called once and didn't like what we told you, but thought when you called back this time you would get a different person with a different answer. Press 19 if you want us to use the shelter space that would go to helping a stray, so that you can board your own dog while you are on vacation, (free of charge, of course). Press 20 if you have bought your children a duckling, (baby chick or baby bunny) for Easter, but now it's July and they're bored of that animal. Press 21 if you want us to take your female dog or cat who has already had several litters, but you can't spay her now because she is pregnant again, and that would be against your religion!! Press 22 if your cat is biting and not using the litter box because she has been declawed, (by YOU), but are not willing to accept the responsibility that the cat's behavior was altered because of your decision to have him or her declawed. Press 23 if your two-year-old male dog is marking all over your house but you "just haven't gotten around" to having him neutered. Press 24 if you have an outdoor-only dog or cat and are calling because you suspect that she is suddenly pregnant. Press 25 if you have done "everything" to housebreak your dog but had no success, yet you don't want to crate the dog because it is "cruel". Press 26 if your new"love" doesn't like your dog or cat (and you are too stupid to get rid of this new friend, who will dump you very soon anyway). Press 27 if you went through all these 'options' and didn't hear enough! This will connect you to the sounds of tears being shed by one of our volunteers who is holding a discarded old dog or cat while the vet mercifully frees him from of the grief of missing his family.
  6. If were a former cheese addict like me, you will LOVE this recipe: Ingredients: 6 campari tomatoes (choose compari - they are the best for this recipe!) Three leaves of basil (or more if you love basil) Half a block of Earth Island monteray jack vegan "cheese" Half a small onion (the sweet kind, good for salads) 1/4 cup of olive oil or a little less if you want to keep the amount of olive oil to a minimum Directions: Cut each campari tomato into four slices. Chop the basil, and the onions. Cut the cheese into cubes. Throw all of the above into a bowl, throw in the olive oil and toss. Add some salt to taste, and enjoy! The combination of campari tomatoes, the monteray jack cheese, basil, olive oil and sweet onions is orgasmic!
  7. How essential is it for the tahini to be "unhulled". Can it be just a jar of "Oragnic Smooth Tahini"?
  8. OMG I instantly drooled when I saw that pic again with so smurf blue cupcakes. I am going to bake some tonight damn it! **grabs keys to go grocery shopping** Thanks Lez!
  9. Hey jay, Do you use nutritional yeast? That;s got lots of B12. Do you find that that is enough to meet your B12 needs? Also, the Silk that I drink has B12, so between that and nutritional yeast, I find that my B12 needs are met. What are your thoughts on the above for yourself?
  10. Awww you guys are the best. Thanks everybody!
  11. ya its sweltering here too, plus all the humidity and smog. I *hate* it here.
  12. Welcome Chris. You will find lots of info and lots of powerlifters here. Off the top of my head for powerlifting comes Jonathan and Ryan (veganessentials). Totally vegan, and strong as hell. I noticed your question about soy protein isolate on another thread. Note that any isolate protein (so that includes whey protein isolate) is not the best in terms of healthfulness because the isolation process is of questionable merit, as Michael once described in an earlier thread (I think it was an older thread under supplements). But of the two, hands down soy is better for you imo. You can use the search function somewhere on the screen to search for key words and topics. Have fun at this site!
  13. My thoughts exactly! Lemme at it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Finn, let me know if you would like to stay in the guest suite of my building. The location is very convenient (subway/train to downtown right across the street), and the price is cheaper than a hotel. And the building is new and spotless. And, of course, all of us could hang out and go to the festival together, etc etc. We also MUST go to Fressen - gourmet herbivorous cuisine. Click and behold the cullinary pornography: http://www.fressenrestaurant.com
  15. I read that one symptom that you may need a liver cleanse is when you are always irritable. Apparently irritability builds up in the liver. I am thinking about doing varioous organ cleanses, but the stuff/pills/whatever you buy from the health food stores to do these cleanses - I hesitate to buy them and do these cleanses because I just dont know if that shit really does what it says it does or if all they are selling us is snake juice. Anybody have any thoughts, experiences, opinions, knowledge, experience, did I mention experience, with these various cleanses for which you pick up flyers from health food stores? Thanks.
  16. TO all Torontonians, please cross post this and email to your friends here in this city. Please keep an eye out for this fellow. He is an American bulldog with blue eyes. He should be easy to spot with his blue eyes. Please crosspost. MISSING Vegas is missing, most likely stolen. He is five months old, american bull dog with blue eyes. > >His home is in the Toronto area. If you have seen Vegas, please e-mail: > > > > [email protected]
  17. You are one fine piece of meat you sexy little bastard.
  18. It definitely is! It would be so awesome if you guys would come down at that time. Maybe I can talk Tarz into coming at that time too, and how about Robert and LoveLiberate? Robert, you can ask Vega to treat it as an all expense paid business trip for you, because you could have Vega stand and promote Vega. Plus, my building has really nice guest suites that are much cheaper than hotels. (If my place was bigger, everybody would be welcome to crash at my place but my apartment is only less than 600 square feet). We could ALL hang out. And that week is the best week to come to Toronto because of the Vegetarian Festival and also because the weather isnt so hot and muggy in September.
  19. The ethical considerations arent too shabby of a motivation to go vegan either. www.meetyourmeat.com welcome by the way. i am sure you will find all the motivation you need on this website.
  20. Finn, my condolensces for the loss of your beloved Indy.
