  1. Personally I really like Campagnolo for components, as they are known for they're durability and reliability, and the fact that they can be repaired instead of simply being replaced (something that you can't say for Shimano). They cost a little more but in my opinion its well worth it. My personal preference aside pretty much any modern mid range groupset will function quite well and odds are that as a beginner you wont notice a huge difference in shifting or otherwise no matter which groupset you choose As far as wheels go Mavic Kysrium is absolutely one of the best bang for your buck wheelsets.
  2. Maybe they're not out there to bun calories maybe they're out there to have fun.
  3. It sounds to me like you are doing the first sin in any competitive sport: you're judging your opponent based on appearance. Older and with extra weight does not an inept athlete make. It just sound like your pissed that A) they have nicer bikes then you and , B) they're faster then you. Biking is great exercise don't get me wrong but for many its more than that, its about pushing the envelope. If you really wanted to bike simply for exercise you would ride the heaviest frame you could find convert it to a fixed gear with a 5:1 ratio, and put the nobbiest tires you can find on it. But that wouldn't be any fun, because al least part of you enjoys going faster. On a side note there is only so much speed you can buy. In my experience racing a shitty rider on a $10,000 bike is still gonna be a shitty rider.
  4. Can you add me to the table with the numbers I posted earlier.
  5. Best advice I can give is don't by into the hyped products, the bike industry is notorious for this. There is always going to be a frame or part that is lighter and claims to be 'faster' but at the end of the day is 1 km/hour on your top speed really worth 4 grand more. I ride an old steel Bianchi It weights in at 21 lbs that's a lead weight by todays standards, with some bikes weighting in as low as 15lbs. How does that affect me on race day? It doesn't, I can't count how many times I've zoomed past guys on their fancy carbon fiber bikes with $10000 price tags. Bikes aren't fast riders are fast, and when your skill has improved such that a new bike or new part is warranted, you'll know.
  6. To all Hippies/PC Punks! Fuck just because I bathe and have a job doesn't mean that you get to look down upon me like I'm not a real punk. I have more revolution going on in my left nut then you will ever have! I grew up poor, you choose poor, its not the same thing. Hemp (although very nutritional) is not the be all end all of food, so stop recommending that I try it. Refusing to kick a rapist out of your apartment because your a pacifist just means you're a coward. Listening to Against Me! is now punishable by death! Reading Emma Goldman does not make you special or unique
  7. Are there any of the muscle shirts in medium left?
  8. Are you looking for a road bike? Are you planing on racing/training?
  9. Nutritionally almost identical. However if you take palatability into account Vega wins by a mile and then some.

  14. Nice! What is everyone else riding? I'm riding an old steel Bianchi with a "New" (2007) Carbon Campagnolo Chorus groupo and Easton EA90 Wheels.
  15. I would recommend getting a road bike, if you get more serious about it you can always upgrade, or do what I did and run some aero bars on it.
  16. Running my first half marathon tomorrow, wish me luck. Oh and p.s. I'm doing it in my five fingers.
