  1. I don't know...Didn't pilates COME from yoga...I don't really see what the point of combining them is because I thought that Pilates was already a hybrid practice. I think the problem with Yogalates or PiYo as we call it here, is that people sign up for the class thinking it's yoga and it is SO totally not. Then they get put off on yoga and don't want to come back. That's been the experience at the activity center where I work. I took it one time because the yoga class had been cancelled and I did not like it. Had I been in the minddset for it, I think I would have but no one told me that it was PiYo, and the schedule said it would be Power Yoga meh
  2. I did yoga the other night that is mostly ashtanga with a bit of hatha...I don't really know the difference but that's what the instructor told us. Ashtanga is otherwise called Power Yoga (am I right?) and hatha I'm told has more meditative aspect.(?) Anyway, it was great, I've taken it before, but for some reason I am sore. Yoga has never made me sore before. It's a good sore though...not really pain just awareness that I used my body for more than just sitting in front of my desk at work.
  3. Well I got impatient and just made soup out of it. I prepared it the same way I would an acorn squash. I added potato and sweet corn, nutmeg and brown sugar. It's decent. Thanks for the tips. I'm gonna try those next. I have pumpkins growing like crazy in my yard at the moment and probably will through November so I imagine I will be eating a lot of pumpkin.
  4. Yes, calling ahead is a great idea. You can usually get a good vibe as to whether or not you want to eat there/trust them by how they speak to you on the phone. If they are pleasant and helpful on the phone, they are probably safe. If they act put out by having to check ingredients or act like your concern is stupid and pointless, then I wouldn't bother stopping in that restaurant. Also, alot of the big chain restaurants all get their food from the same suppliers and you can check online or send an email asking about ingredients ahead of time and they are obligated to tell you the truth. That's how I found out that Little Ceaser's pizza crust is vegan and if I call in advance, I can get crazy bread prepared vegan too.
  5. none but I want to meet all of you...if anyone wants to come crash at my place in San Marcos, Texas they can feel free. We can tube the river or go to Schlitterbahn...
  6. I'm a little bit psychic and I have the power of not reacting to angry customers when they act like asses...which makes them even angrier. *evili grin*
  7. Careful of soy sauce. Sometimes it has anchovie paste in it. Read that label...as I'm sure you already do
  8. All the recipes I have are for canned pumpkin...I'm trying to use the real pumpkins I have growing in my yard but I don't know what to do with them other than carve silly faces into them but it's a bit early in the year for that. FYI, pumpkins are really easy to grow. My crop this year came from the seeds I threw out in the yard last October after my nephew came over and we carved jack o lanterns. Now I have pumpkins out the wazoo and I never even watered them once. Anyway, if anyone has any tips on cooking with REAL pumpkin, please let me know. I have two in my kitchen that I fear will not last much longer.
  9. It makes you want to just eat at home... That's what I do most of the time anyway, much cheaper.
  10. Yeah I see your point here but like others have stated, it happens anyway. I was only going 30 miles per hour on a straight road. It just darted out in front of me. Thanks for all the support, I just had to vent (if that's the right word for this situation)
  11. When do we get to see the results/winners? I was gonna enter but I got sick
  12. and it made me very sad...I haven't hit an animal in my car in a looong time. This squirrel ran out in front of me and I tried to slow down but it ended up right under my tire. edit* GRAPHIC CONTENT WARNING *edit I drove back by it later and saw all its insides pushed out through it's mouth. Sorry to share the details but I have to express it here. I'm sorry little squirrel. I was very disturbed by this accident.
  13. 1 year and some months....I'm not worthy!!!
  14. You'd be surprised how many landed places are becoming more accepting of body jewelry. Don't be too quick to write them all off in one shot. You are correct in assuming that some don't like it though. Best thing is to call first. I can check into that for you if you want me to. HCN has several Hippie Hollow Fun Days per month. It's very informal but it gives you a chance to meet some of the people in the club without having to come to a house party or something that might be kind of intimidating if you don't know anyone there. At any rate, I don't want to hijack this thread any more than I already have. if you want some info on it, e-mail me at [email protected] or add me to your Y! IM, screen name is bobcat_naturists peace
  15. I've seen The Future of Food. I took my Mom to that one. She actually got jazzed up and wanted to go to a protest a few days later. That's saying alot considering my ultra-conservative, blindly-republican mother.
  16. All this talk about clay makes me want to go get into it right now...but it's late and I'm not really inspired...Maybe I could do a sculpture of a naked person watching a movie and eating vegan snax... or maybe I will wait to think of something til tomorrow
  17. I see your point...but I'm pretty active in the naturist community around here. I'm even an officer for an Austin-based nudist club called The Hill Country Nudists. While a few of the nudist/naturists I meet can be slightly hippie-ish, the vast majority tend to be your typical cross section of larger society. People usually are shocked when they find out they know a nudist because they really do reflect the society norms...just without clothes. But I will try to convert vegans where ever I go, clothed or not, no worries there! I think it would be cool to meet more vegans, nudists, movie buffs or any other people interested in the same things I am...I just think it's especially cool when you meet people with more than one common interest. That's the most fun of all. By the way...I LOVE doing pottery and ceramics! I have a bunch of clay I need to sink my hands in to.
  18. Just watched it on endcruelty's MySpace page...I still have tears on my face. It's so terrible to see the bad stuff that happens to animals...but also very touching to see the humans who are making a difference.
  19. hey just wondering, are there many skinny-dipping vegans in Houston?
  20. I used nettle root extract in water and jojoba oil last night. Woke up this morning to thicker hair, I kid you not. I wish I had tried it earlier. herbal remedies don't always work the same for everybody but I think I found a winner with nettles.
  21. I agree with the water people here. Drink plenty of it. Also, I have not used a so-called facial cleanser in probably 3 years and my skin rarely has even a small blemish. If I feel oily faced, I rinse with water and dry off with a plushy towel. Sometimes 3 or more times per day. I would say steer clear of cleansers and see how your face reacts. I would bet 9 times our of 10 the complection improves. My theory is that companies make cleansers that will improve your face for a week and then cause it to break out worse after that.
  22. Welcome! I'm 6'3" too and I fluxuate between 205 and 208...My goal is to be between 195 and 200. My heaviest (and probably unhealthiest) was when I was at 235. Glad those days are gone, it's much easier to tie my shoes now. I got down to 202 when I got sick with mono, which I still have, and was ordered to stop exercising until the virus went dorment. It's frustrating to have been so close but I'm trying to eat low cal in the meantime although I am not used to watching calories so I've goofed up plenty.
  23. Beyonce Ambushed by PETA Knowles was dining with her mother and sister at Nobu in New York when PETA protestors attacked her about the use of fur in her clothing line, House of Deron. ------------------------- This is the tagline that accompanies the video. Any one else take exception to this sensationalising? First of all, the two were invited to dinner as winners of some auction. They didn't just run up on them and ruin their meal. Secondly, I don't see how they attacked her. They confronted her about her choices, were very respectful the whole time and then were told off by Byonce's bitchy ass Mom because she couldn't win the argument...which was really just a discussion anyway. And yet, AOL has taken the low road, backing the celebs and dissing the animal rights activists.
  24. Happy Happy birthday, it's that time of the year Happy Happy Birthday, let's all stand up and cheer *hey!* Happy happy Birthday, may all your dreams come trueeeeeee.... Happy Happy Birthday from all of us to you! *hey!*
