What to do, when you're on 'light duty' and cannot run.
Lyric replied to Lyric's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
Can't use the ellip or rowing, pretty much anything that isn't walking. I have to take a stupid walking stick/hiking pole or wtfever with me on a hiking trip this weekend. We do, however, have an upper body bike. -

Ooooh I like it Strength and Cardio, if I can't do anything for three freaking months I'm going to go out of my mind. I called, and asked, and no, I'm not allowed to swim. He believes my competitive nature will make swimming impactful and harmful to my knee. -
So, My doctor today informed me that I am not allowed to run, and put me on light duty for the next 3 months. my Meniscus was nearly torn, and the tendons/connective tissue on my Patella is all but shot. SO! What are some AWESOME things to do, when I'm not allowed to do really anything? And, does anyone else have knee troubles?

Ack I read this title and thought to myself "Nooo! I didn't miss it right?" It should totally happen. Perhaps we ought all start sending in letters?

Welcome! How long have you been playing soccer?

Is your posture poor? Whenever i'm slouching, I yawn. If I have proper posture, I don't.

Don't push it, take care of yourself first.

Yessir! I believe that the most important things in achieving goals (besides knowing what it is that you want) are knowing how to get there and the willingness to work your tail off to do it! There are so many things in life that I want to do, so I'm going to do my best to make sure I don't waste any time! Of course, I know that things never turn out quite how we expect them to. But I know what I want, and I know how to get there, so whenever something puts me off the right track I just plan around it. I am a Yesmiss son! It's way cool that you know what you want to do. I take a whole different approach at life, i'm the colorado river before it was dammed. It's AWESOME that you are going out for what you want, and getting there!

Welcome! Sounds you have you're life mapped out.

Look at it like this: 6 calories are burned per day for each pound of muscle that your body houses. 2 calories are burned per day for each pound of fat that your body houses. Therefore, the more muscle you have over time, the more calories you burn each day, and the more weight you can lose. A mix of strength and cardio is an awesome combo, but keep your strength before your cardio. 10min warm up, then strength, then your cardio is what works best for me. We're all different.

Maybe see if there is a cycling/spinning class in the area, crazy good workout and killer on the hams and thighs.
-
The only time I eat protein is 15min before a workout, and right after.
-
124 @ 5'2, i really wouldn't suggest.... losing the fat before the muscle, as high intensity muscle training is JUST as effective for losing weight as cardio, and you're getting muscle that way as well. Even very heavy people that are losing really ought be going at strength training.

I don't know about a trainer on here being in your area, but a lot of us on here *are* trainers.

i dunno if you have access to ptonthenet.com but they have an exercise library, and you can specify "no equipment". You're get about 100 results, for sure.

why is white pasta crap? and peanut butter calories come 72% from fat u would be better off eating One cup of cooked spaghetti which contains about 7 grams of protein, 40 grams of carbohydrate, 3 grams of fiber and less than 1 GRAM OF FAT than 2 table spoons of peanut butter which contains 16g of fat and 6-8 g of protein. and im talking bout meals here not sandwiches or snacks you can eat those after you have eaten 2 cups of vegan spaghetti use peanut butter to meet your daily fat requirements.i just usually eat only about 2 peanut butter sandwiches a day White pasta kind of is crap due to the simple carb content, if you're eating pasta it should really be a dark pasta. And it's not *just* about the fat amounts, it's about the kind of fats. 10gs of trans or sat fats is completely different than 10gs of monounsats.
