How much do you spend on food per month?
BlueRose replied to Danny1611124300's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
I buy a lot of various fruits and veggies organic to avoid pesticides and crap, and there's always a bit of extra cost involved. Given I only cook for myself and don't eat a heck of a lot, I figure it's worth it. My most expensive things are my supplements, and I typically get the Vega products on sale. -
Given how often cheese is cited as a reason for not being able to go vegan, I don't blame them for including it. I know that I personally was lost without substitutes and once I was weaned from my addiction to cheese I did okay. But reading that book convinced me giving up dairy voluntarily was the right thing to do. My original reason wasn't--I can't digest casein. Awful GI issues I won't even go into but in any event, once I read that book, I no longer had any qualms about being vegan.

My Thai Vegan, I forgot to say, is RIGHT next to the theatre district. It's on Beach St across from Chinatown T stop on the Orange line.

Peace O Pie in Allston is awesome along with Pulse Cafe in Somerville. Both are my fav vegan places to eat at. Also Grasshopper in Allston near Peace o Pie has good Asian along with My Thai Vegan in Chinatown. Grezzo's is now closed sadly, but if you head north to Beverly there's The Organic Garden which is a raw vegan place made of win and squee. Some vegetarian but not purely vegan places include Veggie Planet in Cambridge and if you go to Lizzie's Ice Cream nearby or in Waltham they carry a few Tofutti flavors and list what toppings contain what allergens so you can avoid egg/dairy. Boston on the whole is pretty sweet in regards to vegan friendly places. Johnny D's in Somerville has great live music and a jazz brunch and they will serve you a tofu scramble for breakfast that is made of extreme awesome. They also have a dedicated vegetarian fryer and can tell you what is vegan or can be made vegan. Also in Somerville is Diesel Cafe which has vegan baked goods in addition to sandwiches. Flour Bakery and Cafe on Farnsworth St and also in another place in Boston carries a grilled tofu and olive tapenade sandwich I am addicted to, and their lo-fat vegan chocolate cake is the most chocolatey, yummy thing--everyone buys it even if they're not vegan, it's that good. Hope this helps!

How much do you spend on food per month?

I think a lot of it is relative to where you live. I live in a place with a ridiculously short growing season and produce is flown in from very far away. I would assume that would add to the price. I guess I could live more cheaply if I stopped eating so many fruits and veggies, but I don't really want to do that. +1 This. Also depends on cost of living where you're at. I live in eastern MA which is an uber expensive place to live. I try to cut back by shopping at farmer's markets, getting Boston Organics shipments every two weeks, and get things I use regularly on sale. I probably spend $200-300 per month, easily. I also feed two kitties in addition to myself. -

BlueRose's diet/exercise diary of Les Mills Combat!
BlueRose replied to BlueRose's topic in Online Training Journals & Blogs
Another power walk/run/jog yesterday. I actually have sore thighs now. Yes! I need to keep challenging my muscles or I'll plateau. I've scheduled another month of Brazil Butt Lift and after that I've scheduled...60 days of INSANITY. It's my goal: BBL and running plus Hip Hop Abs, then Insanity. Having much fun with this, loving the emerging muscle def. -
That's what I have! Got it in vanilla flavor and use it in this fruit smoothie of awesome.

Thanks to this recipe I made a casserole of awesome. I can't wait to eat more of it! I had all but one can of chickpeas but a ton of broccoli and some zucchini and green beans I had already cooked in olive oil, onion flakes, and garlic. So I diced everything up and added one large onion diced, almond slivers, Daiya cheddar and Italian shreds, and added more garlic. No chives on me and since some of the veggies already cooked in olive oil just added extra veg broth and used a bit more breading since I had a LOT of veggies! The entire thing was one of the most delicious meals I have ever made, and it was so easy! Two thumbs up, have leftovers and would cook again!

My P90X Before & After Photos
BlueRose replied to astracner's topic in Before/After Photos & Progress Photos & Videos
I am a HUGE fan of Beachbody programs and P90X is one of them. I'm currently in training to start Insanity myself -
Used to take Rainbow Light multi for women, now have Vega Whole Meal Optimizer for breakfast every morning and figure that's plenty
-
Just tried the Vega sports optimizer tonight. I really like the acai berry flavor! Does what it claims to, nice boost of energy but without that jittery caffeine feeling--and I'm RELALY sensitive to that sort of thing too, so that's a real plus for me. Got it on sale at WF so I figured I'd try it. Anyhow, that's my review. Just mixed it with water and WHEE! Anyone tried it with juice or in a smoothie?

Did first run tonight. I actually ran close to a mile without stopping. I had NO idea I was in that good of a shape! Afterwards did power walk/run alternating for another 15 min before sundown, next is some Brazil Butt Lift exercises. -
LOVED Lain, you're nuts. D: Bleach Tsubasa Chronicles Runouni Kenshin Irresponsible Captain Tyler Hellsing Revolutionary Girl Utena (starts off looking like magical sword shoujo but IT'S A TRAP! And the biggest mindf--- anime you'll ever watch)
-
Anything by Rush. For soundtracks, would go with Run Lola Run, the Matrix, Flashdance. (yes, I'm a child of the 80s, deal )
-
Yeah, my faith doesn't have religious buildings (pagan).
-
"Church" is a Christian word for a Christian building. Notice that they did not meet in a multidenominational mosque. There was a stained glass window containing multiple religions' symbols, however.
-
I agree, but it was only the *sideways* world (LA X) that wasn't real. Seasons 1-5 were very, very real.
-
Ooh, a casserole! <3 And I love chickpeas too. I'm a huge fan of quinoa and couscous, always keep some on supply! Thanks
-
Bland, ick, reminiscent of my mom's Irish cooking. Her idea of veggies is microwaving corn, a tiny bowl of iceberg lettuce with two slices of cucumber, or a baked potato.
-
Have broccoli surplus. Some has been used in my latest batch of quinoa and tofu. Could use more suggestions on what to do with it. Creativity and tasty treat ideas welcome!
