  1. Sorry if this is a repeating topic, but I didn't have much luck digging through to find it elsewhere. While dropping weight in the last few months I've been upping my exercise and thus my protein intake quite a bit. I'm getting my protein from a variety of sources (powders, nuts/seeds, quinoa, beans) but, I've got some concerns about the amount of soy that I'm ingesting. I usually have a good serving of soy protein at least once a day (powders, tofu, soy chicken breast, etc.) I've heard cautions from friends about research denouncing over ingestion of soy. What are everyone's thoughts on this? How much is too much? What are you eating to up the protein without depending too heavily on soy products? -Tia
  2. Spent the day doing homework but could here Ottawa's firework show from the backyard!
  3. I live just across the river in Gatineau! What exactly are you looking for? We've got a bunch of great vegan restaurants and more than a few health food shops & fresh markets. Where will you be staying in town? Downtown, East, West, or South? One of the great things about Ottawa is our biking paths. Bring your bike if you can. Let me know if you have any questions and I'll do my best to help you out!
  4. Welcome Ashley! I think I would have a hard time living in Texas with their world-famous portions Even up here in Canada the portion sizes haunt me!
  5. Hi Shine, Great blog - I'll be following your journey! I'm hoping to get back into P90X this week. I had a very successful 6 week stint last fall, but fell out of the routine when school started. This time around, I'll also be trying to stick to the diet a little more strictly. I'll be sure to share any great recipes I use and look forward to working through the program (a few weeks behind) with you. -Tia

  8. Hi T! I'm late to your thread, but thought I'd salute another tall, female vegan working for better heath I'm up around 6', 26 years old, have been a vegan for nearly 10 years, and my weight is at it's peak at 170. I too would love to get down to 150 again. Welcome and I hope to see you around! -Tia
  9. Hi All, I'm brand new to the forum. I've been a vegan for nearly 10 years, but am just starting on my fitness journey. For years I worked in forestry--running planting and thinning camps in Northern Ontario. During that time, my weight was always under control (around 140 lbs), plus I felt strong and healthy. Now that I'm stuck behind a desk, the weight has been creeping on and I am finding my body is so much weaker--with achy joints, headaches, stress, and low energy. I'm 6' and my weight is at it's peak of 170. I work full time and am also a full time MA student, so free time is a distant memory and my stress level is often high. I am so tired of feeling like crap & constantly talking about getting fit and doing nothing. So, here I am. What I'm really hoping to find in this forum, beyond information and encouragement, is accountability--ideally, I'd love to connect with someone in a similar situation. I need that daily/weekly accountability and would love to share my workouts, progress, and challenges with someone working towards similar goals. Let me know if you want to connect! My plan is to get back on P90X and try to mix in some biking and jogging. I completed about 6 weeks of P90X last fall and was feeling great... but then I started back into school and I let life de-prioritize my health. My goal now is to successfully integrate fitness into my life for the long-term and to feel good in my skin. I'm not looking to bulk up, but recognize how important weight training is to my overall fitness. Anyway, I'm glad to find a vegan-specific body-building site and am look forward to challenges, pain, and successes of the coming months. -Tia
