  1. I use one, I have an Ohaus 2000 which I've had four almost five years and it's still working great!
  2. I wanted to check back in to let you know that my hair has stopped falling out in mass! I've been gluten free for over a month now and about a week ago I noticed that when I washed my hair I no longer had a handful of hair coming out. I also no longer shed everywhere all day long. I even notice that when I vacuum there isn't much hair in the vacuum cleaner now. It kind of sucks that I can't have gluten but it's wonderful that I found the reason behind my hair loss! Plus I've actually been eating even better now since I no longer eat processed carbs. Let us know how you are doing.
  3. Ha, wow! I'm blessed with three but man I don't know how I'd handle four! My husband's co-worker sent him a copy of a Readers Digest quote and it said, "If you want to know what it's like to have a fourth kid, just imagine you're drowning and someone hands you a fourth kid." I laughed so hard I cried! Congrats!
  4. I just read this, how did you cut your EHL tendon? Was it from running? I hope you heal up soon. I'm happy to hear you are getting better. Are you able to do any upper body lifting? It must be so hard to not be able to run. My right leg has been hurting for the past two weeks and I've barely run and the lack of running is really getting to me.
  5. I just ate two mini homemade gluten free vegan oatmeal raisin cookies and I'm about to have a baked yam. It's 3pm here.
  6. I'll rent the book from my library. Roughly 1 in 100 people have celiac disease most don't even know it, something is going on...
  7. I buy the vegan BCAA powder from True Protein and I just pour 5 grams of the powder into my mouth and then drink some water to get it down. You get use to the taste. After my workout I just add it into my protein shake. My protein shake already tastes pretty awful so I don't notice a difference!
  8. Just a thought, could it be a gluten intolerance? I'm in the process of going gluten free to see if it cures what ails me.
  9. I'm not much help as I'm just about to gluten free. I'm still trying to figure out everything myself. I plan to still eat oats though. How about teff, millet, and quinoa? As for protein powder I'm drinking brown rice protein. I'm assuming hemp and pumpkin is OK too? My only other thought is lots of greens! I hope someone else can help!
  10. Run more hills? My pace keeps improving and I'm running hills, doing intervals, tempo runs, and increasing my mileage.
  11. I've only been seriously running for 6-months but I've learned that interval training is great for improving your pace as well as increasing your mileage each week.
  12. I finished my first half marathon! My time was just under two hours. I've already signed up for the same race next year and I've signed up for another half which is less then two months away!
  13. I didn't see real gains until I started drinking protein shakes. I just cannot get enough protein on food alone ( I aim for 1 gram of protein per lb. of body weight). I drink mostly rice protein since it's low in calories and contains mostly protein unlike hemp which has more calories, fat, and carbs. I also feel like I've seen nice gains from taking BCAAs. Of course everyone is different but this is what works for me.
  14. Just a quick update... I'm about 2.5 weeks out from my half marathon and I can happily say that I've definitely gained muscle mass as well as thinned out during my training. I'm only lifting twice a week but I lift as heavy as I can and I'm still increasing my weight in some exercises. I'm also currently running about 30 miles a week. ETA: And I hope to finish my half in ~2 hours. I've only been seriously running since March so I think this is a good time to aim for.

    Fish

I ate fish before becoming vegan. I had a pet pig and I visited cows at a ranch when I was young so that turned me off to eating pork and beef. Fish I always considered healthier and I liked the taste of it. I also never saw fish the same way as I do other animals.
  16. So weird, I get this sometimes too. I had it a couple of days ago but it has healed already. I wondered what caused it. I'm suspecting an iron deficiency at this point.
  17. I feel like my hair has been falling out a lot as well. I've been supplementing with zinc, calcium, magnesium, vit. d, vit. c as well as a multi. for the last 6-months or so. I also eat lots of flax seeds and chia seeds and have been for over a year now so I feel like I've been getting enough omegas in my diet. I do not take extra iron but after reading the veganhealth.org link maybe it could be an iron deficiency. I've had my thyroid, vit. d, and iron levels checked and they were fine though. Anyway, you could also be losing lots of hair if you recently gave birth. At about 5-months postpartum many women lose a lot of hair. And it's normal to lose 100 hair a day and up to 250 on the days you wash your hair. I think I notice losing my hair more now because my hair is really long. It could also just be genetic. Let us know if you figure it out!
  18. I'd add nuts or seeds to your oats since fats help you feel full longer. I like hemp, sunflower, chia, flax, and pumpkin seeds. I'm currently eating steel cut oats with soymilk, raisins, chia, flax, and sunflower seeds. It keeps me full. I also drink hemp protein powder with BCAAs and water when I first wake up.
  19. I'm not an expert but I think drinking a protein shake right after your workout is a better idea. Then an hour later have lunch. For breakfast I eat oatmeal and have a protein shake. I hit the gym about 3 hours after I eat and take BCAA's 20 minutes before I workout. I know some people will drink a protein shake right before they workout but so far my method is working for me. Hopefully others will chime in.
  20. I avoid it but I don't feel as strongly about it as some. If I accidentally eat some I'm not going to sweat it.
  21. My D levels were within range. It was 35 or so which was the low end of acceptable. My iron has been fine as well. I should have had my B-12 levels checked out at my annual but I forgot to ask. I haven't been sick in almost two months now. I'm definitely not working out as much since I'm now following a 12-week to half marathon training program. Amazingly I am still seeing muscle growth, it's slow growing but it's there. It's really hard for me to put the brakes on my workouts but I know I tend to push myself too far sometimes so this is probably really healthy for me to cool it down a bit. I'm wondering if the zinc and vitamin c has helped too? I appreciate everyone's help!
  22. Are you taking a B-12 supplement? When I first started taking them I received a lot of energy from it. I also agree that you need to up your protein intake to at least 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight.
  23. I love your Mei Tai, is that a BabyHawk? I can't tell if it's reversible or if you have two different MTs. Either way I love seeing mamas carrying their babies so close
  24. Up your protein intake that should help with your hunger.
