  1. I never really thought about when you take it mattering. I just put a teaspoon of it in my morning smoothie. Maybe I will have to experiment with taking it after a workout.
  2. Sounds awesome! I would love to do something like that.
  3. That sounds awesome Michael. Were you living outside for months just for fun, or did you have some type of guide job?
  4. Thanks Baby Herc! Sounds like you have some awesome hikes planned out for this summer! I am not sure if I am quite at the sweet spot yet, unfortunately. I need some more time to get in better shape I think to not have the "can I really haul my fat ass up a mountiain?" thoughts. If they do the trip again next year I will be ready for it though! I really want to move out the Pacific NW sometime, to have all that amazing stuff out in your backyard to play in would be so cool! Ocean and mountains, doesn't get better than that. But its not like I lose if I don't go on the Mt. Hood trip, the other option is a week long kayaking trip down the Main Salmon River in Idaho, so still an amazing trip!
  5. That sounds really good, chocolate and pb together are the best match! Does it have a lot of sugar?
  6. So, I am confused (doesn't take much). I have been searching to boards trying to learn more about BCAAs and other supplements and just have myself completely confused. Say I want to order protein powder off the True Protein website, what exactly should I include? What percentage of pea, hemp, and rice protein, and what should I add? I guess I should add the Aljipure BCAAs by the pound too, but at what percent? Do I need to add essential amino acids, L-Leucine, or anything like that too? I wasn't clear whether those were vegan or not from the discussions. If I want to add creatine, what percentage should I add, or should I get that separately from my protein powder? Thanks in advance!
  7. You can, but I personally do better with much higher levels of fat, it helps keep me full. If I eat too high carbs I get ravenous.
  8. Are you sure you weren't looking at creatinine, not creatine? Creatinine is a test of kidney function and is produced when the kidneys break down creatine, I believe, but I am not sure if that value tells your creatine levels.
  9. I am a person who has always wanted to be super outdoorsey so I am working on becoming that now. I am learning to white water kayak and rock climb and hike/backpack. It is helping me get back in shape too. An organization I am involved with is summiting Mt. Hood in June, and I would love to do it but I am just not sure if I am up for that one yet.
  10. So how do water distillers work? Do they boil the water and trap the steam and then cool it to make pure water? I live in an area with a good quality well but have a friend that lives in a city and is concerned that her Pur faucet filter isn't enough for things like the recently discovered hexavalent chromium that is in many cities water. Would a distiller get rid of stuff like that?
  11. Anyone know if this is just for the hemp protein or if this is for Nutiva's hemp hearts too? I found a great deal for a 5 lb bag of Nutiva hemp seed on Amazon, but don't want to buy it if it is not good quality seed. Thanks!
  12. This article on veganism becoming more mainstream was in the Washington Post. Good news. http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2011/01/05/AR2011010503153.html
  13. NOW Tru-Food Vegan is an alternative, but I don't know if it is cheaper or not. Before you buy the Vega make sure to try a sample pack first, because some people don't like the taste, at least mixed with just plain water. I think a lot of people only do a half serving a day too instead of a whole one. Vega's Sport Performance Protein is much better tasting when blended into a smoothie. You definitely have to eat real food when taking the Vega too unless you are doing way more than one serving a day to meet you calorie needs.
  14. I think my body doesn't handle carbs well either. How do you eat realatively low carb as a vegan? Do you do a lot of fake meats?
  15. This is interesting stuff. I have never heard that your body cannabolizes muscle if you eat an incomplete protein, I always thought you body just stored the extra until complementing proteins were eaten. That is why most vegans don't worry about protein complemting anymore as long as they eat a varied diet. It is also really interesting that if you eat a cup of black beans you need four whole cups of rice, that is quite a bit. I also thought soy and hemp and quinoa were all complete proteins so that no complemeting would be needed. When are you planning on publishing your program?

Wow! Great job on the weight loss success! I hope that in about a year I can have the same success.
  17. Did you start eating more too? It seems that would help you put on weight more than just combining proteins.

That looks really cool. I just might have to come down for that! It would be great to meet some other vegans because as it is now I believe I know 0!

Thanks everyone, I am excited to find this place. John, I am from just south of Youngstown so I am not too far from Cleveland. Have you been to the Flaming Ice Cube? It is a new vegan resturaunt in downtown Cleveland. The original one is in Boardman and I am obsessed with their buffalo panini and peanut butter crunch bars.
  20. Hi guys, this is an old thread, but I am in just south of Youngstown, so fairly close.
  21. I don't know the answer to your first question, but for post workout carbs I think dried fruit is okay. I know Brendan Brazier recommends dates.
  22. I love this recipe. I crave it all the time. Curried Lentil Soup 2 tablespoons coconut oil 1 large onion, chopped 2 large carrots, chopped 2 ribs celery, thinly sliced 4 cloves garlic, minced 3 teaspoon ground sweet paprika 3 teaspoon curry powder 2 teaspoon ground turmeric 1/2 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon ground black pepper 1 bag (16 ounces) lentils, picked over and rinsed 8 cups vegetable broth 2 cups water 1 pound fresh or frozen spinach -Heat the oil and saute the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic. -Stir in the paprika, curry powder, turmeric, salt, and pepper. -Add the lentils, broth, and water and bring to a boil. -Reduce the heat to a simmer and cover, stirring occasionally about 30 minutes until the lentils are done. Add the spinach until done.
  23. Coconut oil is the healtiest to fry with because it has the highest smoke point and can withstand the temps. It is also a healthier oil than canola.

I keep hearing great things about that cheese, I might have to try some. It would be great if I could eat pizza that still tastes like pizza!
