  1. Hi Karen, Great going with training. If you found it easier that must mean you are making excellent progress which is very inspiring to see. For the life of me I can't think of a joke that is not a bit blue and the gentleman in me would not wish to shock a true lady such as yourself. So for now a sort of clean joke ( I stole this from british comedy icons Morecambe and Wise) Two priest stood out in the garden on a beautiful hot summers day. One says 'nice out isn't it?' The other replies ' yes, I think I will take mine out as well' Have fab weekend
  2. Thanks for your comments on my thread. I like the strong lifts program, is this a good one for gains whilst reducing body fat as well? I have a bit of spare tyre that needs to shifted I love the attention to detail you presented and how you put it all in a spreadsheet. I think I shall 'borrow' this idea if that's ok. I used to be pretty good with excel and access software before going into electronics so if you need a hand with anything let me know - I can be a bit of a geek sometimes and enjoy techie stuff. Any way thanks again and god luck with the gains and training --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=52.371231,-0.776259
  3. Thanks for your comments Matt. I think I do need to kick this thing into kerb. As always the positive comments help. I shall check the Skip vids this weekend, looking forward to it oh and I think I will have a go at the homemade protein bars, will make a handy addition to my lunch box.
  4. Thanks MF I answered your question on my thread. Oh and by the way I have had a look at your blog - I shall keep reading it good info on there
  5. Hi MF, Thanks for that mate. I think a 4 day split, not sure how to fit in cardio though. Anyway no workout today. I shall pick up again over the weekend or Monday. I am just feeling very tired and emotionally at rock bottom. I really wish I could get out of this depression - it's driving me nuts Saying that though having this forum and the friendships I am making here really helps, it's good to know there are compassionate and supportive people- thanks to all of you just for taking an interest. As Robert would say "you guys rock"
  6. Not a run. I use the elliptical trainer, this my only form of cardio at the moment. I wish I could run like that - I would be in the Olympics myself
  7. Hope you have a good 3 weeks with your parents mate. You have some very impressive stats. I was wondering if i could ask for some advice? A bit nervous about asking but nuts to it - here goes: I am currently following Derek Tresizes routine posted on the site. Heavy compound stuff (well for me any ways), my first post outlines it, but he only recommends following it for a max of up to six weeks. In a couple of weeks time i need to change the routine and i am not sure what to do. I train at home with bench, squat rack, barbell and dumbells any ideas. I m not asking for a complete routine or anything just a pointer in the right direction - my goal is to build lean muscle. I hope you don't mind me asking but you certainly know what you are doing. No rush either mate, enjoy your time with your parents thats more important. Also i won't be offended if you can't help me, i just thought i would ask
  8. Hi Matt liked your last post especially the part "What can I do to make things more enjoyable? Read other peoples threads and comment on them to encourage them. Set small goals for each workout as it feels great when I achieve them. Smile!! Enjoy this experience as there is a great body at the end of the journey." Thanks for your comments - it's working. Keep up the good work mate,
  9. Hi Karen, Yes hopefully one day you can get to England it would be great to see you and Robert. I appreciate the kind words, i find i relate to you as well. At least you get my jokes so thats something. Sometimes it's great to take a day off just because we can, with no guilt or other reason than we deserve to enjoy relaxing - it's good for the soul. I hope you enjoyed it Anyway keep up the good work not just on this forum but the events for vegan outreach as well and catch up again with you soon (no jokes today, i'll save them for when needed:) )
  10. Ok quick post today, we had a bit of a car breakdown emergency and i had to dash out to pick up my wife so she could get to a pet sitting appointment. My cardio got cut a bit short, i only managed about 26 mins approx and 7.43 Km but thats ok. I needed to take it bit easy as i have been tired and falling asleep at work. I was having mini little snoozes whilst staring at electronic schematics during fault finding PCB's - not good Anyway friday tomorrow. I shall attack my routine refreshed and enjoy the weekend break.
  11. Hi Glais, Hope you are doing ok. Have you tried soy yogurt - i love it. I also found on you-tube some recipes for home made vegan yogurts, can't say i have tried them myself but they looked interesting. It might help to substitute for these to help ease into the lifestyle without feeling like you are missing out. Any way hope you keep posting and experimenting with the food, good luck with it.
  12. Hi Miguel, Good to hear that you are going to keep on posting mate. Just because the month is over does'nt we have to stop. I shall look forward to keeping in touch with you and your progress. Oh by the way did the exercises i sent you help? I hope they did help you as much as they did me.
  13. Just a quick note to wish you a happy birthday matt - good luck with the challange as well hope you win it!!
  14. Thanks mini forklift - yeh us older geezers have to stick together. Thanks for the compliment by the way another mate for life. Yo Tarzan, brilliant i have inspired a whole new generation, fantastic. Unfortunatly mate i cannot do the dougie. More of a jive person myself. Love it though, i think i need to get somebody to teach me to do the ..er me
  15. Thank you so much Karen. I did not realize you were one of the organizers of this - so thank you for your hard work and help in setting this up. I have really enjoyed it and enjoyed meeting yourself and the other members as well. You are a 'diamond lady' and a mate for life Thank you Matt for the comment on my age - the photo was taken in 2010, i think you are a mate for life also for that comment I shall defiantly look at Skip's videos thanks for sharing. I need to look at some fresh training ideas as i intend to change it about a bit in the next couple of weeks. I really hope everyone keeps on posting here as this is not over for me, i have only just got started . So, on that note, today's post: Cleans 1x 10 @ 10kgs warm up 2x 10 @ 12.5kgs 1x 8 @ 12.5kgs Incline DBell press 2x 12 @ 4kgs warm up 1x 8 @ 8kgs 1x 6 @ 8kgs i upped the weight so some improvement DBell row 2x 10 @ 4kgs warm up 3x 10 @ 8kgs 1x 6 @ 8kgs I have a confession to make and i must admit i feel a complete wally for this but i believe i might have written down that i did 3x 10 @12kgs last week (that is what i put in my notebook anyway). I actually did 6kgs each (i have no idea why i decided to double it, must have been fatigue kicking in). Anyway if we ignore that cock up i did actually improve in this exercise as well Romanian deadlifts 2x 10 @ just the bar, warm up 3x 15 @ 15kgs -slightly better form this week so i felt it in the hamstrings more. That's it for today tomorrow cardio - yipee
  16. Hi Karen, This is by no means over, I shall be continuing throughout the year. Besides I've got a ton of jokes and complete nonsense to share. I apologise in advance. Seriously though. Thank you for your support, you deserve a medal for all the help and encouragement you have given to so many people. It has helped me stay on track and a welcome distraction to the depression. I have gotten to know so many fab people I wish I could win the lottery or something so I could fly over and meet you all in person.
  17. Hi Karen, I hope your mum gets better soon, keep us posted on her recovery. I think it goes without saying that everyone here is hoping she recovers fast. Sounds like she had an allergic reaction to something. Anyway i got a bad joke to make you chuckle: 2 dogs sat in a bar having a few drinks and in deep conversation, when in walks a horse. The horse asks the barman for a beer, and starts telling the barman all of his daily problems. The 2 dogs notice this and one turns to the other and says "da you see that......a talking horse, amazing!"
  18. Hi Matt thought i would pop by nd thank you for your posts. Just to answer your question, i think i will focus on the bodybuilding for now and maybe look to the marathon next year. I am 42 this year (march 13th, please don't make a big deal out of it or anything, no prezzies etc ) and i have wanted to get competition ready ever since i was a teen but things got in the way and with the surgery i had on my back back 2008 everything jsut seems to have slipped me by. But i am determined to get back into shape now, so thats the goal. Any way thanks again. Your journal is fantastic keep it up mate and i think i might check out the Skip La Cour video
  19. only did cardio today. I am still feeling tired and motivation is hard to find. Can feel myself slipping backwards but i did manage to stay in the 10Km in 30 mins area again, so feeling a bit more uplifted about that. I actually managed 10.26Km in 30 mins on the the elliptical trainer. Burning 272 calories. I checked out the link Mini forklift thanks for that, i feel a bit of a muppet i should of read your posts properly and i would of found it myself. I don't know whats up with me this week - perhaps i should start adding more calories to my nutrition plan as i am feeling a bit weaker. But i am also desperate to get rid of the spare tyre (if you saw my before photo in an earlier post, you know what i am talking about ) so i don't know if this will hinder this. Anyway i shall try it and see. See ya later.
  20. Hope you all had a great weekend. First of all thanks for the comments i really do appreciate them. Matt I was up manchester a few months back. My wife is Portuguese and the Portuguese offices are their (she had to renew her identity card). great place, my brother also lived and studied their a few years back. Mini forklift what is you wifes cousins name i shall look out for her in the triathlon. Wish her luck from me . I also checked out you first video you posted on you tube. It was really good, I thought the way you included footage of your journey was a good move. I am quite nosy you see and i like seeing where other people live. Did you mention you were originally from Stratford upon Avon - home of Bill Shakespear? I studied English as my Major at University and have been meaning to get over their and visit - recommend any good places? Any way i shall catch up with you all properly another time, because i am real tired and need food and sleep . Heres my journal for today: Squats x2 sets of 12 reps bar only warm up. working sets: x4-10 reps @ 30kg Bench Press (barbell) x2 sets of 10 reps, no weight this time, warmup Working sets: x2 sets of 10 reps @ 20kg and x1 set of 8 reps @ 20kg - same as last week, a it down today and also had to do some overtime at work so very tired. Bent over row (barbell) x2 sets of 12 reps bar only warmup working sets: x3 set of 10 reps @ 20kg barbell shrugs x2 sets of 12 reps bar only warmup working sets: x3 set 12 reps @25kg. - this was an improvement. I did find that although in some areas i am progressing, i feel very tired. I did have a crappy day today and if i am honest i almost found an excuse not to train. However if this is the worst it gets for me (depression wise) then i can accept it as it is nowhere near as bad as i felt a couple of weeks ago. Any way i must go and eat lots of food now - i am starving.
  21. This is fantastic news mate. I am really excited for you. You keep up all the good work, networking and training and we'll all do our bit in whatever small way we can as well. Looks like the negative perceptions about a vegan lifestyle are gradually being overturned thanks to athletes like yourself. Who could ask for a better celebrity representative than Mike Tyson - who in their right mind would dare tell him being vegan makes you soft!?
  22. Hi Matt, Just a quick post to say thanks for popping by my journal and leaving a comment. You got me thinking about running marathons now Love you journal, it is very detailed and is giving me some ideas on how to improve my own daily menus. Any way have a great weekend, Doug
  23. Hi Karen, Is there anything i can do to help cheer you up, i have got lots of jokes just as bad as the last one i posted er maybe not. Keep going it's good to see that despite how bad you are feeling you still manage to be consistent with your training. It's also good to see you have a friend join too. The steam room sounds like the dogs bollocks (i know that sounds rude but when you say something is the 'dogs bollocks' it means it is really good or awesome). Have a great weekend
  24. Thanks Karen and thanks Mattpb for the comments. I wish i was at Olympic standard - especially this year as they are being held not to far from me Karen it is perfectly ok no need whatsoever to apologize - i thought i had been a dumb arse (or a wally as we sometimes say in UK) and posted incorrect information. I took the photo to clarify and also make sure i had been reading it right from you guys who know a bit more about these things. However saying that the cardio element has been the most surprising element to this as i find i am thoroughly enjoying it - when my fitness improves i may start adding road running into the mix and have even contemplated running the marathon (perhaps not this year, but i could aim for next year). You guys have been totally awesome (though i would try an Americanism today ) and Karen I hope you are feeling much better now. I have got loads of really bad jokes to help make you chuckle. Did you enjoy the one i posted? Today my workout helped me get out of a rut as i felt myself slipping back into the depression again. I felt al ot weaker today but it still felt jolly good and very tough. Here it is: Pull ups on squat rack: Just body weight 1x10 reps and 3x12 reps. Decline Pullover 2x 12 @ 2Kg warmup 1x 10 @ 4Kg 3x 10 @ 6Kg Push Pulls 2x 12reps no weight on barbell warmups 1x 6 @ 10Kg (plus weight of olympic barbell) - i found this to heavy and exhausting so i decided to drop the weight 3x 8 @ 5Kgs and barbell Deadlifts 2x 10 @ 5Kgs and barbell warmups 2x 10 @ 20Kgs and barbell 1x 10 @ 25Kgs and barbell 1x 8 @ 25Kgs and barbell I shall relax this weekend and recover, as always though i shall pop back into the forum from time to time to have a nose around. Have a great weekend all of you
  25. I can honestly say this journal will continue throughout the year. Hopefully by the summer I will be in my best shape ever. Who knows maybe even my first competition? --- I am here: http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=52.370936,-0.776124
