  1. My partner is also obsessed with his weight. :/ Have you tried giving a links to an online source explaining that it's not all about the numbers, so it's coming from someone other than you, an "authority" on the matter? IDK that there' s much you'll be able to say or do to change his perspective. I think that they have to come to it on their own.
  2. Great progress!! Thank you for sharing with us
  3. You're welcome! Hope it helps. I actually came back ot check on this thread because I remembered I had mentioned Naked drinks as a good thing when traveling and just saw their class action lawsuit - http://www.topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/lawsuit-news/4470-naked-juice-agrees-to-9m-class-action-settlement-over-all-natural-claims#
  4. You can do it! It does often require some prep work to figure it out, at least in the beginning, but vegan food really is all around. I'd plan on bringing any specialty foods or supplements along (particular bars, powders, supplements, etc.) and then go to supermarkets for the rest. All of them will have fruit, veg, canned beans, and most likely things like almond milk. Many of them are getting better and better at stocking specialty items. Even our local Target and Walmart grocery now sells at least a few things that were previously only available at the health food store. Some folks pack a mini blender, but I find it's easier just to replace smoothies with a Naked drink when on the go because you can find those almost anywhere. If you can't go to a veg restaurant (I usually find those with happycow), check out http://www.veganeatingout.com to get info about what's vegan at chain restaurants. Most will have something you can piece together, or if ask you can usually special order. (Not something I like to do, but lots of people do!) Ethnic restaurants are usually a good bet if you need to make plans to eat out with colleagues and don't have a chance to look up anything about the restaurants in advance. I use an online tool (fitday.com) to track stuff, so that's available anywhere. It can be difficult to find the time to input things though. Hopefully some of the regular travelers will see this and have more ideas for you. Good luck making the transition!
  5. I haven't been able to cure my seasonal allergies, but I've gotten them under control with quercetin and bromelain supplement, which are plant based. I get these from our local natural foods store. it's a combo of the two and also includes vitamin C - http://www.vitaminshoppe.com/store/en/browse/sku_detail.jsp?id=SO-1405#.Ubk6FlKVtN0 I've heard good things about acupuncture for allergies from others but have no experience with it myself. Never heard of kenalog injections.
  6. Just got around to reading the newsletter. Hope I made it in time! My favorite right now is Spring into Shape in the Great Outdoors http://www.veganbodybuilding.com/?page=article_robert_spring because we're finally geting nice weather and I'm really feeling the need to be outside the last few days!
  7. I have been having a very hard time keeping my workout and diet consistent since I quit my job. Starting today, I'm tried to get back into some sort of routine. I need to do it for both my physical and mental health. Started with some interval training, basically the same as the fit test I did at the beginning of the year, 50/10 intervals for 7 different exercises. Stats were aroudn the same as January, so I haven't lost _that_ much of my base, no matter how much it feels like it. Also did some arm/back/shoulder lifts with light dumbbells.
  8. Thanks, Karen. I'm still here. My workouts have been sporadic, but I'm not giving up! Weighed myself for the first time in awhile and found I'm down a few pounds. It's not due to my (less than stellar) eating habits so I'm guessing it's that playing tag chase/pretending to be racing cars/musical statues/playground/etc. with our kiddo is different from spending the whole day sitting in a chair. My sister is getting married in August and I'm going to be in the wedding so trying to step up my efforts on arms, shoulders, back stuff to look nicer in a sleeveless dress. Working on doing full (non-knee) pushups as well. So far I'm up to 8 in a row. It's a start.
  9. Having a hard time getting into a good groove since I started staying at home. My diet is OK, needs to be better. Lots of activity with my kiddo, mostly in short bursts. Tonight I did this BodyRipped workout (yet another BodyRock spinoff, but one that uses almost entirely bodyweight exercises, less/no equipment) http://bodyripped.net/rippin-it-up-for-italia/
  10. I'm not a martial artist but I wanted to say welcome and wow! Great video. Even not knowing much about the grading could tell that you really worked hard for it. Hope you get some more responses from people more qualified to comment.
  11. Sounds interesting. I've never had almond butter and avocado together.
  12. Great time on your 5k! Well done! And I hear you that it's frustrating the days when you put in the effort to go and then it feels like it's all wrong. I wholeheartedly agree with poster above that something is better than nothing. I sometimes go out and run just a mile, or lift for 10 minutes, and feel like people at the gym probably think I'm crazy, but to me it's important to just try and keep up the habit.
  13. Doing pretty good this last week, considering I'm still in this miserable transition period. Just three days of work left! Did a 2.5 mile outside run plus a three ZWOWs (Zuzana's Workout of the Week - former BodyRock host). Leaving diet alone until transition is done, but doing OK there too. ZWOW #9 - 2 Rounds - 2.5 miles/26 minutes ZWOW #10 - 2 Rounds - ZWOW #9 - 2 Rounds plus 7 -
  14. Hooray, Karen!! Well done! You'll have to tell us all about how it went.
  15. Karen - Good idea. I should consider doing something like that, or at least setting more specific goals, because the nebulous "make sure to work out" that I have now is not doing the trick. My last day of work is the 29th. Good luck with your 5k! Can't wait to hear how it goes!
  16. I'm struggling to get/stay on track with both diet and exercise right now during this transition period to being done with work. My schedule is different than before, I am losing my gym access and there's just so much going on! Excuses, excuses. I'm optimistic that I can work it out to my advantage though. My new schedule will have a lot more flexibility so that will help a lot. Just need to make it happen!
  17. Karen - Yes, very big changes, and ones I think will be quite positive for us in the long run but are stressful right now. It's my turn to stay home with our son so that we can homeschool him, something we're all excited about. You're right that stress probably is playing a big role; the chiro said the same thing.
  18. Day 59 - Feb 28 Bodyweight exercises Day 60 - Feb 29 More bodyweight exercises at home.
  19. Welcome, Greg!! You'll find a great, supportive and knowledgeable community here.
  20. Days 52-58 - Feb 21-27 I pretty much stopped exercising, but managed to keep my diet on track. Haven't even been craving sugar lately like I normally am! This virus kicked my butt, absolutely the longest period of time I've been sick in years and years. Wonder if it was the recent antibiotics for my eye that contributed to me not being able to fight it off like normal? Add to that my son's birthday and subsequent party for all our family, then also the huge, life changing step of resigning from my primary job last week and it made it easy to just give it a rest for awhile. Ready to get back to it though, and even more motivated now that I got my box of goodies in the mail from VBB. Thanks so much, Robert and Karen!!
  21. Karen!! Thank you so much for the special note in my package, really made my day. You guys worked so hard on the challenge and I really appreciate it. Hope your C25K training is going well and that your mom is making good progress.
  22. Welcome, Steven! Congrats on going - and staying - vegan!
