  1. One more thing. The next time they accuse you after "eating white" remind them about the increase in health issues such as heart disease, cholesterol and diabetes in the black community. Suggest that if they ate "less black" they would live longer and feel better. " Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow"
  2. Zen, when I told my parents about my choice to go vegetarian it felt like I was coming out. My dad was like, "Are you sure? Maybe you haven't found the right meat yet." Well, they did what every other family member has done and asked, "What are you gonna eat?" Be yourself. Be strong. And remember, they aren't you so what may be right for them may not be right for you. Eventually they will see that you are doing what is right for you. Maybe you will even convert a few. Good luck. 3. I didn't even think of creatine being non- vegan. One more reason for me to cruise the boards. " Where the attitude goes, the mind goes. Where the mind goes, the body goes. Where the body goes, others will follow"
  4. For me that is it. I have been on an incredible journey this year. Vegetarian feels right. I never tell people I will never eat meat again. I tell them I don't plan on it. We never know what the future holds. Sent from my DROID X2
  5. Way back when when I was going vegan i spent a year transitioning and learning. I feel thats the best way to approach and avoid the rubberband effect. I'm not too sure about going vegan. I am fully good right now being a vegetarian. Plus, the cost of food is difficult for me to go fully vegan. I have enough trouble balancing the food in my house between me and my son. My wife is still a meat eater and doesn't want to change. That makes meals harder to plan. Any advice about how to find this balance would be great. Sent from my DROID X2
  6. My wife and I watched two shows. Food Inc. and Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead. After those we decided a juice fast was for us. After much debate I decided to just stop eating meat. The truth is that I like meat. I just decided that I didn't like the feeling it gave me and I wanted a clean life more than I wanted the meat. I think that is the trick to any diet, exercise program or way of life. You have to want the change more than whatever it is you are giving up. Sent from my DROID X2

  9. I sure hope so. I am witnessing my family having health issues. Heart disease, diabetes, cancer, strokes, and generally feeling ill. My mother lost 70 pounds last year doing WW and my wife and I got inspired. After the wife lost 65 pounds(100 from her biggest a few years ago) and I lost a little more than 30, it is time for some changes. I KNOW I will make my goals. I spent 4 months plateaued at 190 and know that I will need to "work" for it now. I know that this site and its members will motivate me and I hope to motivate others. Sent from my DROID X2
  10. I currently hit the gym five days per week. In order, it is chest and triceps, cardio and abs, legs, cardio and abs, back and biceps. I do one exercise one week and the next week a different exercise for the same area. So for example: I would only bench press ever other week and in between I do flys. My son is also working out with me and he is in the beginner stage so complex workouts are out if the question. Plus, our gym is limited. Any thoughts on this. Feedback is welcome. 11. You are welcome. Btw, I have not seen a thread for this stuff. Maybe a sticky so we can post these things? Sent from my DROID X2
  12. Me too. I save these up as they cone along and share them as needed with people. My favorite is the story of Team Hoyt. Worth the read if you have not read it yet. The story I read was from snopes.com. I am surprised I have not seen it on here. http://www.google.com/m/url?client=ms-android-verizon&ei=b4uxTvjLLa_isQfnswE&gl=us&hl=en&q=http://www.snopes.com/glurge/teamhoyt.asp&source=android-launcher-widget&ved=0CD0QFjAK&usg=AFQjCNFoAKhy9D6_oo6xJDb2K5CkBxff0g Sent from my DROID X2
  13. My thoughts? Wow. Simply wow. I never knew that he worked as hard as he did. Determination is a powerful tool for us. I hope I can keep my determination level up. I didn't get to finish the video but I certainly will later. I only saw half of it and was impressed. Thank you for sharing that. Sent from my DROID X2
  14. I know in the gym it isn't about doing what others can do, it's about doing what you can do. Still, I have a question. I am hoping to get my bodyfat down to a reasonable level to maybe 5-10%. I want to weigh about 180lbs at that percentage. My question is this: How much are you guys in that size range lifting? I would like something to base my progress on so I can get an idea if I am on track for that size and also to have a goal. I am currently 5'8" and 187. After dropping some fat I know I will need to build up. I am interested in bench, squat, etc. Sent from my DROID X2
  15. Honestly? Getting up at 330 to workout is rough. I know it will be well worth it though. This forum is really helping motivate me. Plus, I can finally ask questions to things I did not know and had no one to ask. Love this site! Sent from my DROID X2
  16. Thanks. Me too. Truthfully, my 13 year old son is helping to motivate me. He jumped on the vegetarian train with me and wants to lift weights. I used to lift when I was in the service and hopefully I can beat those old records. Sent from my DROID X2
  17. This is my "before" photo. It is actually after losing 30 pounds. Now that my son and I are working out together I am really motivated and hope to show some progress as I work towards my goal. Plus, it kinda puts me out there so I have to work hard now. Sent from my DROID X2
  18. That is also a good point. When I was with the BP the academy training was mostly body weight exercises. It was very high intensity aerobic type exercise. Sent from my DROID X2
  19. I think if you want more size but also are looking to not gain any excess flab then definitely add cardio. Plus, you may want to increase your food intake gradually and see how your body reacts to it. Feel it out and determine your need. Go slow and listen to your body, it is smart enough to let you know what is going on. Sent from my DROID X2
  20. I have heard that a vegan/vegetarian diet tends to improve the brains functions. I have noticed a decline in that area over that last few years and am hoping for a little boost. Overall though I feel great. One more question; about going vegan. Did you vegans here jump to vegan or was it a progressive thing? Why? Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
  21. Yep. Definitely creepy. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
  22. Ummm...... wow? Awesome? OMG!? None of those fit but they are all i can think of. Excellent work. I am impressed. I understand the work and dedication required for I have very little of that. Keep up the great work.
  23. All of those things I expected. I guess I am an oddity. What about recovery time? Have any of you guys experienced a reduced recovery time? I noticed muscle soreness for a day and a half instead of three or four. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
  24. Not sure how "cool" it is but come on over. It's s big place so there is plenty of room. Sent from my DROID X2 using Tapatalk
