I'm glad the Tempeh is working for you- seems to work out for me as well b/c it's fermented. I def can't do any faux meats without feeling sick- which is fine b/c they are so processed anyway!   7. Time really goes by so fast! I can't believe our month program for January is over today! I've loved every second of it! Thank you all for being an inspiration to me and to each other! It's been wonderful getting to know everyone and learning about each of your stories!   14. That's awesome Carley! Have you tried foam rolling? I wish to goodness someone told me to start foam rolling when I first started running! If you don't do it or need ideas on where to start, let me know and I'll give you some resources! It's so worth it. Also, do so hip strengthening exercises- another thing I wish someone told me to do early on. You can just lay on your side and light your leg (hip abductions) or use a weighted stick to give added resistance. Strengthening the hips and glutes helps a ton! I hear ya on the eating more thing- for sure! It's def mental- it's hard to make yourself eat more- but look at it as keeping your metabolism fulling running- your body has to have fuel to keep running and burning. If you aren't hungry don't eat tons more, but I have noticed just adding a banana or some veggie sushi (with rice on it) before a run really does give me more energy (fuel to burn). Post run make sure you're eating some carbs (to fill in lost muscle glycogen) and protein (to keep your muscles strong and repairing). Doing that will keep your body strong! Just adding a little extra food for those purposes is a great place to start! Hope that helps! xo
  15. Nancy- I highly recommend the C25K program! You can download it for your ipod- it's awesome! You'll love it! Also, Hal Higdon's beginner training programs are awesome! I always use some form of one of his programs when I'm preparing for a race of any distance! I'm pumped for you, sister! xo
  16. HELL YES! 8.5 Mile Run? Get after it, girl! I love it! That's awesome! Are you increasing the food and calories on long run days? I know I've been after you about this- I have to work on the same thing myself (believe me). But just please remember that an 8.5 mile run burns 850 + calories and just walking around you're burning at least 1600 - 2000 just keeping yourself alive so you need to make sure you're giving your body enough to repair for your next run! Keep up the AMAZING work! xoxo
  17. Karen- don't stress over perfecting the food journal. Half the battle is just keeping it- it makes you much more aware of what you're eating and prevents mindless snacking. However, stress will do nothing for your goals or overall health. In the moments when you don't know exactly what the portion is/ how to log it/ etc. just step back, breath and congratulate yourself for nourishing your body with healthy food. Enjoy what you're eating and do the best you can to log it. Do not let what you're doing limit the enjoyment in your life- this should enhance your life- not take away from it! I always ask for my food without sauces and dressings when I go out. Steamed veggies, brown rice, salad bars with dressing on the side, etc. Even at 'healthy' places I usually order a salad rather than a wrap or sandwich because I have more control, but that's just what works for me! If you're eating out often, getting simple stuff like a salad is best but if you're eating out only 1 time per week- get something you enjoy and do the best you can. Stress is not a healthy thing so increasing it in your life isn't making you healthier! Shine bright, baby! xoxo
  18. Thanks Karen! You're a sweetie! Today I did a 5 Miler + 25 minutes on the elliptical. I slept in this morning which I NEVER do! I let my body rest - which I know it needed. I'm trying to focus more on the mind + body connection. We get so focused on what's on the outside and deny our needs for rest (mental and physical). Nourishing your body with good clean vegan food and exercise is amazing- keep doing it and if you aren't - let's do it together- start today! BUT don't deny your needs for rest and destressing. Spend time praying, reading (no computers or phones), taking a walk or watching a funny movie. I want to admit, I'm terrible at this- but I'm seeing the negative impact of not taking time to slow down and enjoy the moment- you miss out of so much when you're not taking time to be present. So, as we focus on the body- let's not forget the mind and spirt! xo

  20. Yesterday was awesome workout wise! I kicked my own butt- and I loved it! I woke up unsure of what workout I wanted to do- short run and boxing or long run and no boxing.... well, I ended up doing a long 6 miler and boxing for an hour! I ran to the front desk at my gym and asked for free t-shirt b/c I did just a long run I didn't leave myself time to go home and change and I was all sweaty! So I grabbed my random new member shirt that looked like a dress on me and headed down the boxing gym. I told the coach I was only staying for 1/2 the workout and he said, yeah I can imagine. But then 1/2 way through the other coach said 'yeah, you're fit you can handle hard training days. i'll be here all day training people' then I thought, gees well know I have to stay for the whole class! The class was more intense then usual- we ended up doing a ton of leg work during out conditioning sessions- squats, lunges, mountain climbers, hi knees, you name it! Awesome! So I started out the day planning on just running a little and ended up feeling amazing for pushing myself! It was great! Today is a rest day- and now I feel like I really earned it! That's great too! CHEERS! Enjoy your day! xo
  21. Amanda i would love if you could keep on helping me out. I was going to ask you next week but didnt know if you were to busy to keep helping me out. i found a website with the bands that has videos if they dont work for me i will for sure ask you for help with that. YES YES! We can't stop now! We're just getting started! I am busy, but that doesn't matter! If I'm late on an email, you'll understand! But I think it would be really good for you to know I'm available via email or text whenever if you just have a question or need advice or just want to talk! Plus as you get fitter we can continue to adjust your diet and workout and you'll see amazing results! I'm so proud of all the progress already! Have a wonderful weekend! AMANDA

  24. Karen, I'm so proud of you! You are doing great sticking to it and pushing through! You are an inspiration- really. Celebrate yourself for the strides you are making especially with the C25K. It's pretty cliche I guess, but I was thinking about the saying 'every journey begins with a single step' yesterday as I was starting my long run. I had 9 miles to get in and I was totally not feeling it! I was procrastinating and didn't want to start... but I just said ok... a single step and then another and soon I'll be done. You're taking a single step or steps each day and it's all part of a journey to being as healthy and fit as you can be for life! It doesn't matter how big the step is today or tomorrow, just keep taking them! It all counts and adds up to getting you further on your journey!   25. Hi Kids! Happy FRIDAY! This morning I did 1 hour of pre breakfast cardio on the elliptical. After that I had a 1/2 a smoothie and 1/2 my oatmeal and went to boxing- spar training with my coach! AWESOME! SUCH an amazing workout! He's so encouraging and forces me to push myself- I LOVE IT! Lunch: Salad bar salad with all the veggies. I brought a primal strip with me since I knew there wouldn't be any vegan protein options. Snack: Lydia's bar and coffee w/soy milk Dinner: Big salad Dessert: The usual xoxo ENJOY YOUR WEEKEND!
