LOL.. members won't see the pending posts but if you look at their profiles you might see links for things. I think, however, I may have found a way of keeping them at bay for now. Basically, there's a large botnet out there spamming multiple forums (vBulletin and phpBB forums alike as well as blogs like Wordpress) in an attempt to "advertise". So until they are taken down, we've been hit. Most of it's been hidden from members but from a moderators point of view it's been a bit of a nightmare (one day we had over 100 registrations and nearly 500 posts -- what makes it harder is that they do single postings so means dealing with every individual posting rather than a bulk ban to remove posts).

Bananas : soon to be NOT VEGAN?
SyrLinus replied to beforewisdom's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
Ok. That's disgusting. Additionally, I can see that causing huge amounts of lethal allergic reactions since it'd be using shellfish as part of the process. Since there are quite a few people who have severe shellfish reactions and since this would permeate the skin of the banana, I could see this as being bad and potential cause of lawsuit. Sigh. All in the name of the all-mighty dollar, eh? -
I've enabled the post requirements along with additional registration questions so we'll see how that goes.

It seems to come and go. I may have to put back the mechanism that requires us to approve the first post before they can post freely.

I'm bumping this again. Please don't feed the trolls/spammers. They are usually easy to pick out: they have huge ads in their posts, they have links to sites to try products, they are NOT vegan in their discussion (advocating chicken or lean beef for diets), the language they use is often stunted and awkward, and if you pasted their exact words into Google it'd match about 100 other sites with the exact same words. If you do find posts you think might be spam hit the red exclamation mark and let me know. I ban these idiots by IP and username in hopes at keeping them at bay or to a dull roar. But sometimes I miss it because someone legit has responded to them and I don't catch it.

Sorry the site was down for a few hours yesterday

Ah.. this explains the potential issue I had this morning. -
I'm here to hash through this vegan philosophy
SyrLinus replied to Electric Rider's topic in Introductions
I agree with this, so I read everything I can, pros and cons and try something out for 6 months to see how my body reacts to it - yes, even if that includes eating some white meat or fish. I recently joined a vegetarian/vegan forum and mentioned that I still plan to consume some fish and eggs. Other than that, I wanted to look into going vegetarian or slash vegan.. Oh no they said.. we are strict, you cannot be here - even to learn about something that might improve your health. They said I would get banned asap for making those statements. I'm like.. WTF??? That's way extreme and uncalled for.. that to me isn't a diet or philosophy that's good for you, that's a religion akin to a cult. I didn't sign up to join no religion. I wonder if that will get me banned here too. All the labeling and nonsense is causing more harm than good and people just don't see it. Of course they told me what I wanted was to be a pescatarian but there are no good active pescatarian forums. I don't have any ethical problems with eating meat save animals should not be tortured. They didn't like that either. They wanted cookie cutter clones. For them, it's not about health as it's more about having a political and social agenda. That's a big turn off and IMO, isn't right at all. No. You won't get banned for that. If, however, you went through the forum yelling "Y'ALL LOONIES WHO NEED TO EAT MEAT, YOU F*GS"; that would likely get you banned. Welcome to the forum and hopefully you'll find the answers you're looking for. -
Ugh. March was brutal. April has been better and I've been back on regular workouts. My trainer commented how I've increased some of my weights and stamina. I still need to do more cardio as part of my routine and not let my myself get side-tracked by the computer (which is hard since I work from home and specialize in computer technology). I may have to see if I can get up earlier (and play less Warcraft late at night) so I can add more cardio to my day -- particularly bicycling.

Welcome! To continue your start on the right direction a workout log would be a good thing/place to start.

Welp, I got my leg workout in yesterday. I've been pretty good about sticking to doing my workouts immediately when I get back. I know I'll never been a bodybuilder (it's never been my desire) but definitely am getting stronger as I find assigned weights are too light for me. What I have noticed is that I think I have an allergy to wheat. It's definitely immediate reaction when I have a glass of beer but I've also noticed it for other stuff. It's making me contemplate a gluten-free diet as well, just to see how my body would react to that. Tonight, I'm going to squeeze in some cardio while doing laundry a bit and then pack for my train ride tomorrow to Cambridge (Boston).

Heh.. I've actually been doing it when I get back from teaching at the customer site. This has been a great week so far since the students are very interested in what I have to say, are actually there in the moment (not just side surfing non-stop) and actively asking questions. Since this also isn't at 10 hour day (it's 9-5) it's a lot more relax compared to last week. Thus far I've been pretty good. Last night, however, I took a rest day since my knees were still feeling the effects of the stationary bike. I did a cardio workout the day I got here and then did shoulders/biceps/triceps/abs on Tuesday. Tonight, I'll do legs and abs while tomorrow will be cardio. Saturday will be travel day as I head to Cambridge for my next gig.

Any vegans who lapsed and returned...?
SyrLinus replied to Grape Nuts's topic in Health & Nutrition Programs
A good and heated discussion is a good thing. Name-calling, slurrs and the like are not. Knock off the ad hominem attacks and remarks. -
Unfortunately breaks tend to be filled with student questions so not much opportunity there. I just have to hunker down a bit and do a workout or cardio before the day starts.

*blinks bleary eyed* Oh.. this is going to be a brutal 4 weeks. This week I'm teaching what we call a "fast track". It's basically a class where I fit in as much info in a week that the human brain can handle and then some. I've had to get up at 4:30am each day (my usual time is 6-7am) and I teach from 5:30am until about 4ishpm. I then go to do my workout (this week it's Tues/Wed/Thurs) for the week. It felt nice to get out of the house yesterday but I'm starting to feel the pain of the early morning. I didn't get any workouts in last week when in San Diego because the work days were brutal (12-14 days ) Thankfully (!?) the next 3 weeks are a little better but I will be on the road for all 3. I head to Ewing, NJ for next week (the hotel seems to have a decent gym -- at least the pictures look decent); then off to Cambridge, MA (basically, MIT -- again, the gym looks ok) and then on the 3rd week Akron, OH (I think -- I'm still waiting for official "okie-dokie" from the customer). Since I haven't heard yet from them, I have no idea. But I'm not looking forward to it. I find that being on the road can be really draining at times, especially since I will being traveling over a weekend and such. Ah well. Hopefully it'll pass quickly and I can use the evening hours to finish my book.

So after a work weekend (Sat to Tues) in Vegas, back to some training before heading to San Diego next week. I have to admit to feeling extra dehydrated due to the extreme dryness in Vegas (more so than Los Angeles -- as someone who grew up in a very humid climate I find it extra dry at times). Extra water has been a huge part of my return to home. I haven't lost a huge amount of weight but that's largely because I'm still not doing cardio. I do find that I'm hungry first thing in the morning and when I go to bed, however. Something that didn't really happen before starting working out so that's good. I still try to stick to a raw diet but I find sometimes on the road that's still a bit of a challenge (especially this past weekend where I was standing and teaching for 11 hours straight with minimal breaks).

Hey Viva! Thanks for asking. Yup. Things still going well and I've been doing well with my workouts. Work has been a little hectic lately and it sidetracked me from posting but I've kept on with them. I've actually nearly gone through all my Vega and may have to do another order next week. Oddly enough I'm heading to Vegas tomorrow for work and I have to check to see if the Palazzo has a fitness room so I can do a little bit of cardio (although I'll probably be walking a lot while teaching -- I tend to walk enough to equate to 3-5 miles per day when teaching in front of students).

Moderator Voice: Let's keep the discussion civil. It's fine to have difference of opinions/views and a heated discussion. However, name calling and being abusive has no place here.

Yesterday evening was legs. And I definitely pushed myself. Even in the cool evening air I was drenched in sweat. My biceps from my workout on Tuesday were and are still hurting bit (less than yesterday but I still feel it -- a good pain). The one thing that I will have to start scheduling is time on my treadmill so that I can add a little more cardio into my weekly activities. Since I've continued to eat like I cycle, weight gain happened. One of the things that I'm looking at doing with tax money (if I get a return) is getting a folding bike with a airport bag so that I can take it with me and bike to and from each location rather than taking a car/cab to locations. I still need to add it into my home routine for when I'm not on the road. I'm not the fastest at changing my routine but I do get to that point. Every step is one more towards the next adventure.

Pretty good. I only got two workouts in last week but this week I'm home so I'll be with the trainer. Had an awesome back and bicep workout yesterday and I think we're doing legs later today. I'll probably post about it later today or tomorrow as I have recording that i have to do at 8am.

I try to minimize what I take with me when I'm on the road. If I'm traveling for two or three weeks, having to pack and repack extra stuff ain't so fun. That's why I like the app since I don't need any weights and just use my own body for what I need.
-
Welp. I missed out this morning but since we finished early I made sure to book the time after dinner. I completed my leg workout that my trainer sent me. She was pretty good about using a lot of the exercises from the iPhone App You are Your own Gym. At the least, no matter what the gym has (or rather, what it doesn't have) I can do the workout. Today was awesome. The remaining workout for the week I'll do on Saturday when I'm home. It's been a brutal week with long hours and it's nice to be on my way home.

Sigh. Now I remember why it's so hard to workout when on the road and with a colleague I get along with really well. Didn't get back until 900ish and still had more work to do. Makes for a long day when up at 6am each day. I think I'm going to try to getup at 530am and see if I squeeze a workout tomorrow morning.

Welcome and enjoy the forums. I think posting in your journal as to what you are doing currently can help as a point to start with for others to make suggestions (beyond the starting point that Kira has posted).

So I've been limited to rice and stir fried veggies for dinner. And salad for lunch. I have 3 of my Vega protein shakes, pre-workout and post-workout shakes. The gym is less than stellar. There is one elliptical and 2 treadmills. As for free weights, all I had were 2lb, 4lb, 6lb and 8lb medicine balls. One of those balls had handles. So I used that but increased the reps by 4-6 (so instead of 8 I did 14 and instead of 10, did 14). I also limited breaks in-between to keep my heart rate up and included regular blips of cardio (2-3 min each). My biceps, triceps and abs are hurting. My shoulders, however, are ok and I think that I probably could have increased reps. Anyways, I'm pleased that I actually did it even if my trainer wasn't here. I could have easily just pretended given how long the day was (up at 530am -- after going to bed at midnight --, start class at 730 and finish the day at 8pm). But I did it. So now, going to relax, recover and sleep soon.
